The curse of the camera focusing on the wrong guitar during a solo is alive and well..😆

I was hooked on the Church after hearing them on college radio in the 80s. This has good sound quality.

Watching this I realize how integral and awesome Richard Ploog (the drummer) was for this band. Thanks for posting this makes me feel like a young paisley animal again.

Spot on mate. Subsequent Church drummers have never come up to the mark. Then again how do you replace Richard Ploog.

Ploogie!

His good work particularly pronounced in the short bridge before the solo, (which is one of the best in their catalogue for mine) he could have just kept the beat there..

The circuit was definitely broken when Richard got kicked out. The chemistry was never the same again.

@@evoexpress99 Nice comment there. Wouldnt have put my finger on it, not being a drummer myself. (Or player of any instrument, for that matter.) But it makes perfect sense.

Because most are stuck on Steve and Marty.

Peter played almost all the melodic solos pre-Heyday, right? Glorious stuff.

Damn they were good. Even though I still like them in their current form, they aren't quite the same without Richard Ploog and Marty Wilson Piper.

Agree , in SK biography he said that Richard brought such enthusiasm to the band, he was just 18 while everybody was already 26/27. Plus he's a sweetheart. We always talk on FB messenger!!

Ah yes, before Steve was consumed by his ego... lol. All kidding aside, what amazing electricity these gents brought when they clicked. Steve signed my CD of Starfish : Me (after the usual formalities of first meeting) : Ah, you can just sign it David that would be good Steve : Right! Johnny be good then Lol, so from that slight misunderstanding a smile is generated when ever I listen to the CD. And Marty, we miss you and what you bring to this band, and wish you well in whatever endeavors you choose. From Texas....Peace

@@framodcole + Hello, The CD signing was from their gig at the Granada Theater Dallas. This was the Uninvited By The Clouds tour and it was Just. Crazy. that night. At one point someone shouted out "play reptile" to which Steve replied: No, that reptile is retired and safe in a zoo somewhere...Ha! After they played the last song and said goodnight, that's when the craziness took hold. We clapped and cheered and they came back for an encore, except it didn't end there, for we forced them to come back Two More Times ( lol ), I later read on Steve's blog that they had never done that before. They are such a unique band and we love them so much, that night - They Were Our Band. Sorry for the rant...Stay Safe Peace

Steve was consumed by his ego by the time he was six, wasn't he? But that's ok, we wouldn't have had all this amazing music if he hadn't been. 😉

I'm young - 46! - but at this time when I was just starting to play (at 12 or so), how did Marty choose to the play Ric 12's? (in my inoocent mind - totally obvios now) Genius. Plus Marty looks like Crrissy Hynde, which I was introduces to on their first album in 1980. Magic part of music both. Don't deny this simlilarity. Been a Church fan since 1985.

Shame of it all. I am allowed to grow but they can't but which isn't fair but the growing that they do seems to be "Steve being Steve" and everyone has to accept it. Hence. Peter left. Again. MWP was kicked out for the third time even though he got Steve through some shit. Tough life being an addict. Related to a degree and also separate...Say Lou Lou. I do think Steve's gals have done well. Good pop tunes.
