Baptism, Confirmation For Those Who Transition
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints allows for certain transgender individuals to be baptized and confirmed. However, if a transgender individual is living a life of surgical or social transition, then there are church restrictions in place which include temple recommends, temple ordinances, priesthood ordination, exercising the priesthood, and some callings.
Preferred pronouns and names are part of what constitutes social transition.
All are welcome to Sunday meetings and should be treated with respect and love.

I know of a ward where a boy is transitioning and has been granted a request to attend YWs and girls camp. I think this is precarious. The family I know in the ward has decided their daughter will not attend in that case, for her safety. So, who is more important? Clear lines need to be drawn. Yes, we need to love. But love does not include enabling to the point of endangering others.

I don't believe that the church leadership (at the top) is "progressive." I think they're "inclusive," but not to the point of violating God's law. There is a clear line, but many tend to muddy one side with the other, and in the end, it comes down to their interpretation of what constitutes acting out "love for others." What I see here, as the clear line, is that these organizations (such as YW or RS) are for DAUGHTERS of God and are under the direction of His preisthood. A biological man certainly would never seek such an allowance for playing the part of female in the temple. Would they have that gall? It feels like a violation of sacred trust in preisthood leadership, and that is earth-shattering, IMO.

Yes, that’s awful!! I was told I couldn’t come to church when I learned the truth about masks and refused to wear one because I would be lying to others…. Even if I sat on the stage 100 feet from everyone else. Then, a wks it was lifted. Then in Aug when Prophet said something again, Bishop asked everyone twice in two back to back Sacraments. The first time, no one listened. Second time I had learned my rights and came w/o permission - didn’t ask. So did a couple other families. This past tithing settlement I had to get it off my chest so I asked the Bishop why not then? And why ok for some to not wear and not others…. His explanation… the local government rule. If I had come without, he wouldn’t have said anything. Interesting. IDK… it sure has been decisive in our wards… from TN USA (living free, not v for me - as the Holy Spirit revealed to me NOT to take it).

For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT capitulate and call these people by their “preferred pronouns”. If you participate then you are literally participating in a lie. This does not mean that you are not compassionate. This does not mean that you do not live them. If someone identifies as an animal and prefers to live amongst the animals in the dead of winter, is it compassionate or loving to participate in the individual going out and freezing to death, just so you don’t offend them? If we capitulate as members then this will result in the certain death of the church. The ideological left (including the transgender movement) have their sights set on eliminating the age of consent laws. They are actively pursuing the legalization of pedophilia and adult / child sexual relationships. We, in the church believe in loving everyone because we are commanded to. This doesn’t mean that we must accept and participate in delusions or falsehoods.

When it comes to calling Transgender people by their preferred name, I think thats fine but I dont love the idea of casting the name youve been given by your parents aside. Matt Walsh's take on this is that names are a social construct but gender is not, therefore I am willing to call someone by their preferred name but not by their preferred pronoun because that would be asking me to deny reality.

For anyone wanting to understand more about "gender incongruence" or disphoria, I would highly recommend an interview Jordan Peterson just did with Chloe Cole, a young woman who began medical and surgical transition to a boy at around age 12, and now at 18 had "detransitioned". Her story is absolutely heartbreaking, but it really provides insight into what those individuals are going through, and how we can help them, especially so that they don't make life altering decisions that they may ultimately regret but can't take back.

A lot of this is still confusing, because the church is trying to use the verbiage of the culture right now. I see it like this, transgenderism is a mental illness. Simply having a mental illness is not a sin and therefore, someone that is not giving into the negative impulses of the illness is still eligible for all the blessings and ordinances of the gospel. People with Bipolar Disorder, as an example, will often have a lot of negative impulses that they will have to resist during a manic episode and as long as they do they are fine, since simply having the impulse to do something wrong is not the same as acting on it. It is when we give into our negative impulses that we find ourselves at odds with God's commandments. The Church has a lot to deal with right now. This stuff is clearly the result of a society on it's last leg and they are having to grapple with a number of social contagions like this, while still trying to fulfill the mission of preaching the gospel and bringing as many people as possible to Christ. That mission doesn't change just because the world around us is clearly ending. I will say this though, I do find the Church's use of language concerning. We should have empathy and we should should be tolerant, but tolerance is not acceptance. Some of the church's language on these things has been verging on acceptance, whether that is their intent or not. They need to be careful, especially since there are those in our ranks who seek to subvert the church and turn it into nothing more than a political organization to push "social justice". Those individuals will seize on anything that church leaders say that they can twist and use to draw others to their way of thinking.

@@germanslice No, you have it wrong. Gender Identity Disorder (as it used to be called) was classified as a mental illness all the way up until the release of the DSM 5, a largely political document designed to tear at the foundations of society. You also have it wrong, because you are conflating gender identity with sexual orientation, which means you don't even really understand the ideology you are trying to push. Sexual orientation is about who you are attracted to, gender identity is about what gender you identify with. You are a clown. I really do wonder how people like you, that would encourage people who are deeply unwell to poison their bodies with synthetic hormones and surgically mutilate themselves in order achieve something that can never be, sleep at night. I think the brethren are trying to walk too thin of a line here. I think that self-identified trans people that have transitioned should be allowed to attend meetings but acquiescing to their preferred pronouns and other things mentioned is like trying to split the baby. I sustain President Nelson as the prophet but it's like he's trying to be as woke as the gospel will allow. The biggest problem is that the trans community will see this as a sign that the church is getting weak on this issue and will really start to push for more. There seems to be a serious disconnect between a person seeking their own salvation in Christ on one hand and a person seeking gender mutilation on the other. It's an act of hypocrisy to pretend to be a disciple of Christ and despise ones own creation. One can't be obedient to their Creator by proclaiming that their Creator is wrong or made a mistake in Creating that person. The repentance process should be followed more sincerely before sanctioning a person to even receive baptism if that person despises their gender.

@20:00 IMHO, it is important to recognize the difference between showing Christ-like love toward so-called transgender people, including welcoming them to church, and affirming their claim of transgenderism or allowing them to promote, teach, or otherwise encourage others to affirm transgenderism within the church. To use your analogy, you would give a drug addict medical care at a hospital, but you would never allow them to use drugs or give them to other patients while they are there.

Our stake in Utah recently had a transgender woman (male who had physiologically and socially transitioned to a woman) going from ward to ward in the area on fast Sundays, bearing their testimony in each one. I think they visited 5-6 wards in our stake. In my ward, much of her testimony was fine, but she purposely made an attempt to promote her transgenderism and finished by stating “I’m a daughter of God and was born transgender.” Stake council was given to treat this individual with love but not allow her to bear her testimony over the pulpit if her agenda was to promote transgenderism. This is an example of the real life situations wards in the church are having to navigate. Love the individual, but we must be careful to not encourage and promote the idea of transitioning, socially or physiologically. That’s not to say there aren’t transgender individuals in the church that are serving fully and faithfully, and receiving all the ordinances of Salvation, assuming they haven’t transitioned. Where this person crossed the line in my opinion was addressing the congregation with an agenda as a fully transitioned individual with the purpose to state they were female born in the wrong body. That’s where it steps into tricky territory doctrinally.

@Cwic Media - But is everyone really welcome in or welcome to join our church? AFAIK, there are still many groups that aren't allowed to have membership (Jews, Muslims, polygamists' children, etc.) Individuals that promote or teach doctrine contrary to those of the restored Gospel are apostate. We are absolutely a hospital for sinners and not a resort for saints, but we also can't treat those that don't want to be treated. If they don't want to change themselves from within, and just want to infiltrate to change the doctrine and be progressive to change the church from within, then sadly, their names need to be blotted out. (Alma 6:3, Mosiah 26:36, Alma 1:24, Alma 5:57-58)

We have a lovely daughter who was very bright and sweet who yearned to have friends among her peers. Life was agonizingly hard. Finally at 17 she was diagnosed with Aspergers. Her immediate comment to me was, “ at least now I know what it is “. She finally had a name “ an explanation “ for why she was the way she was. Because of that diagnosis she could work on improving herself to “fit” in by correcting mannerisms and oddities. Is she still different? YES. But she knows she is a daughter of God and that he loves her. How hard it must be to feel you are the opposite sex of your biological sex. Since we don’t know if they are born with ‘a permanent’ condition like those on the Autism spectrum, or whether it is caused by social or other causes. We must love our brothers and sisters and help them align themselves with God’s will as you said. If we support them, they can do it and have faith and knowledge that Heavenly Father will make things right. If we shun and discount them, we will answer for those choices. I have endocrine disease. I am transgender because my body cannot properly regulate testosterone. I was born male, I wanted to be a man, even when everything mentally is the way the conservatives wish, you still have to cope with the reality of science unfortunately my friend. Scientifically speaking, men are XY chromosome, a development built on top of X characteristics, not apart from them. If a 'male' does not develop properly, they will feel like a woman, that is literally how it works regardless of everything else people believe. Men are born with literal vaginal cavities that eventually becomes their scrotum and penis, and have nipples for making milk, and retain X characteristics their entire life. Caterpillars and Butterflies as an example, once a Caterpillar is destine to cocoon, if you interrupt the process of the cocoon and expect a Butterfly, you're sorely mistaken as to how it works. They need to develop or it will not work. Men need to successfully pass transcription, pregnancy, and puberty to finally be a 'man', until then they're characteristically like biological women. I really love how kind you sound. A lot of people who are religious are less accepting of reality and less empathetic to the human condition. They see 'sinners' as less than human and beneath them, but I can tell you don't.

The structure and function of the Cosmos is something that Bruce McConkie said we should be studying to understand. In my firesides I've been showing that and the science clearly shows why same-sex eternal marriage breaks God-science. Alma 42 discussed the need to understand that even Heavenly Father must follow those laws or "He will cease to be God". He isn't a magician. The transmission of His power and the Order of the Universe would crumble from Order to Chaos if the eternal laws of heaven aren't followed. I can't share it here but the science that lays this out is solid and scriptural. Despite that, love and empathy must be shown to our brothers and sisters who struggle with this.

Thanks for helping to break this down. It seems there is a level of non-answer with this issue as well as same-sex-attraction (though transgenderism and same-sex attraction aren’t one in the same) in the church’s simply stating “we don’t know the cause.” That’s how the Lord has directed the brethren to respond in some of these official statements, and I understand perhaps why that is the case. Where church members struggle with these types of responses is in juxtaposing that with the things we DO know anecdotally and otherwise through observations in our own families, communities, and around the world. For example, there are grooming influences online and in the world that attempt to convince and push youth toward transitioning. This can come to a youth experiencing depression, anxiety, loneliness, etc and they find inclusion and identity in a social group in person or online that eventually convinces them they are the opposite sex and that transitioning would fix their lives. We know this happens. Many have come forth and shared their experiences and the physiological and mental health trauma their attempt to transition caused in their lives. We also know there are many individuals who claim LGBTQ identity that can’t recall a time in their lives when they weren’t attracted to the same sex. Transgenderism likewise, but it would seem there’s more room for temptation, experimentation, social conditioning, etc with transgenderism, though that can happen with same-sex-attraction too. Bottom line is, not every single individual in the world’s history claiming to be transgender was always that way seemingly from birth. Particularly not all of the supposed 20% of the younger generation claiming to be LGBTQ. We also know that culturally, morally, and socially, the adversary is using gender confusion to some extent as part of his attempt to thwart the Father’s plan for His children on earth in our times. To confuse, cause suffering, and if he can, to push them away from the gospel through it. We see the deconstructionism, the affect some of these societal influences have in the breakdown of the family, etc. We see signs of moral decay as societal inhibitions are removed and the culture of hyper sexuality becomes infused with LGBTQ agendas. What do I mean by this? The fact that a traveling drag show with explicit sex performances and nudity, advertised as a Christmas themed show “welcome to all ages” was scheduled to perform in 18 different states across 36 different shows in December would describe what I mean perfectly. We feel it in our wards as the overbearing political correctness and cultural sensitivity surrounding these issues seemingly silences anyone bringing the Family Proclamation and other doctrinal truths into the discussion in Elders Quorum and Relief Society. It results in an atmosphere where one only feels like they can say the words “compassion” or “inclusion” and nothing else if the subject comes up. No room for truth and doctrine expressed with love for all. What we don’t see often is the church directly/specifically acknowledge the adversaries involvement in our times as it relates to these issues. At least not in their official statements. Perhaps more direct language is used in general conference or at a BYU address, but most discussion is kept more vague, or just don’t directly address the complexity and implications these issues have on not only adults, but especially youth in our times. My point is not to point fingers or find fault with the church. I also don’t want to lump every LGBTQ person in the same boat or judge or dismiss their experiences in any way. It’s a complex issue with people experiencing very real challenges. I’m just trying to illustrate perhaps the frustration felt by a member who is seeing what’s happening in the world, in the church, at BYU, in their own family, etc, and feels there’s an approach of “playing it safe” with a simplistic “we don’t know” type of answer. I think the brethren probably recognize the risk in pushing people away if they attempt to hash through the complexity of the issue as far as root causes. And perhaps, there are just no straightforward answers on transgenderism. There’s certainly not one root answer. Either way, the call to treat every individual with love and welcoming as a child of God and invite them to find strength in the Savior remains the same and most important part of our role here.

Hmm. This still dodges the issue of pronouns. The church clarifies its stance on use of a preferred name, so that's good. But what about the transgender individual who claims their ward's members are "hateful" because they continue to use pronouns that correspond to their sex at birth? It is not always possible to be neutral and "loving," when pronoun usage inevitably demands that you take a side. For some of us the use of alternate pronouns amounts to speaking untruths and feels very much like succumbing to emotional coercion. But using only pronouns that correspond to sex at birth results quite often in accusations of bigotry, even when spoken in sincere love and care. It's exhausting.

Great clarification and description. It does seem changes are happening at that break neck speed, but the core doctrine hasn't changed, just how the Church navigates the changes. I agree that the Church is a hospital and we all are "sick" and also that love doesn't mean acceptance of everything, but correction. Great video as always!

I used to hold this belief as well. It was the policies and the implementation of doctrines that were changing, not the doctor ends themselves. There is a book, written by a BYU professor that examines doctrines of the church over time. If his research is correct, then almost all doctrines have changed over time. This Is My Doctrine: The Development of Mormon Theology

We had a young man coming to our ward for a while. He dressed like a woman and called himself Sarah. It was obvious that this was not a woman and I never halled him 'she' but I did address him as Sarah. He came for quite a few months. I never got to know him very well, but, like all of us, I treated him respectfully. I was wondering what would happen if he chose to get baptised. We haven't seen him in a while. I hope he's okay and I would be very pleased to see him again.

Thank you for bringing it all together in your wrap up. Love is not, never was, permissive. As human beings, we go through a lot of emotions and "feelings". If these feelings won't get us to the spiritual level that we wish to achieve, we must make a choice. Are we defined by our feelings? Or do we take control of them? Shaming does not motivate a person to change, kindness can.

I think this is a good overview of the church’s official stance on this topic, but the nuts and bolts of how it works in our ward level can be so so complicated. For example, we had a man, dressed as a woman, attend our ward, and he began to want to use the women’s restrooms. That was very upsetting for many people, and eventually men began to stand post outside the women’s restrooms to be sure no man entered. He eventually just stopped coming. It wasn’t enough for him to be at church and attend as a “woman.” He wanted to be treated as an actual woman. I was too young to realize how this played out with Relief Society and such, but I can imagine that was an issue as well. I don’t know how they could have handled it better…

We seem to give a lot of attention to those who exist in the world of unlimited acronyms, and pronouns ad nauseum. What of those who are heterosexual and attracted to the opposite gender who refrain from sexual intimacy until marriage. Those heterosexuals that have learned to curb and control the desire for sexual intimacy until the appropriate time and place. What of those who are heterosexual that never marry. Because heterosexuality is not part of the acronym world is it somehow easier for them to live a life of celibacy and practice self-control. Do heterosexuals desires for companionship and sexual contact somehow cease because they don’t fall into the so-called marginalized category. Do heterosexuals ask for special consideration because they suffer from unfulfilled heterosexuality. Emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically do they not feel that there could be more to their existence and want for something else. Are they frustrated because they know they have more to give yet no avenue companionship to give it. Doctrine is consistent, policy is fluid and everchanging. The doctrine of gender will not change, no matter how much policy you throw at it. God’s structure is based on order, order and chaos cannot coexist. Chaos does not bare testimony of truth. The standards of chastity are exactly the same for all of God’s children no exceptions.

Honest question. Can anyone better explain the spectrum of hormone therapy as it relates to someone experiencing gender dysphoria? Is there a medically prescribed process that doesn’t result in some level of physiological change toward one’s opposite gender? Would this simply be hormone inhibitors that either decrease prevalence of testosterone or estrogen? I guess the root of my question involves confusion over saying there will be restrictions (temple recommend, callings) for those transitioning socially or physiologically, but then saying “medically prescribed hormone therapy” is essentially ok for children and youth. To my knowledge, the purpose of hormone therapy for youth experiencing gender dysphoria is to inhibit or alter the normal physiological, sex based developmental changes that occur during puberty. It can either be inhibiting the process or inducing physiological changes (assuming the intended type and level of hormone prescription is given) to the affect that the individual takes on physical change and characteristics of the opposite gender. Is there a distinction being made by the church between simply delaying puberty through hormone therapy verses actual gender transitioning? Maybe I just answered my own question. It’s all tricky stuff, I’m just trying to find more info to help clarify
@stevenepling7738
@stevenepling7738 Жыл бұрын
There is nothing simple about puberty blockers or hormone therapy. It’s dangerous and harmful abuse. There are no hormone treatments for dysphoria that don’t promote gender transition. Whether blocking puberty or increasing opposite sex hormones, the goal is to transition. That particular paragraph is the only one I took issue with and I am shocked that it didn’t stand out to more people. These “licensed medical professionals” are profiting off setting children on a path from which they rarely return and never return from without harm. That is why I am going to be writing a letter to an area authority expressing my deepest concern about how that paragraph will be interpreted by parents as support for puberty blockers and WILL be used by “licensed medical professionals” to manipulate parents and convince them that even the church stands behind hormone therapy for gender dysphoria. I think it was poorly written and cannot possibly be what was intended. Puberty blockers are child abuse and do not reduce the likelihood of suicide. Research is clear that encouraging children to transition does not reduce the risk of suicide and that in fact suicide rates increase post transition. We cannot sit by and say nothing about that paragraph…it can easily be the cause of thousands of preventable deaths among LDS teens. I know the church is true and that president Nelson is an inspired prophet of God. I believe this paragraph was not written by him or under divine authority. It was carefully written probably by someone who is not aware of how it could be taken and misused to harm children rather than help them. I am confident it will be corrected if good members draw attention to it.

Thank you so much for reviewing this important issue in our society with respect to the Church and the gospel. The Church manual is really the “horse’s mouth”, if you will. It is no wonder that some people in society and those in the media as well as those using social media are confused and misrepresent the Church and it’s members. Now I consider myself more informed and better able to explain, and, at the very least, know where to seek policy and explanation. 😊

My biggest issues are these: Baptism is not gender neutral according to the Lord: "73 The person who is called of God and has authority from Jesus Christ to baptize, shall go down into the water with the person who has presented himself or herself for baptism, and shall say, calling him or her by name: Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen." (Doctrine and Covenants 20:73) See how the Lord specifically separated genders in this verse? Also, we baptize in the temple according to genders Plus, I don't believe church members should be forced to refer to someone by their preferred pronouns

I appreciate this video, and it gave me some clarification, but I think there are still a lot of gray areas. Definitely, IMO, they should be restricted to bathrooms and RS/EQ/YWYM depending on their sex at birth. The church is a refuge for us from the world; don't bring that inside the wards as well. I also think that there ought to be some very thorough baptism interviews and explanations of Church policy. I feel like the Brethren are tiptoeing around these types of issues bc they don't want to alienate that group and those who sympathize with them, but it sometimes projects like the Church is accepting without restrictions these groups and their philosophies.

DICEY INDEED! One definition of dicey is "especially fraught with risk." Here is an example of "dicey" from the policy itself: "The [transgender] person may be addressed by the preferred name in the ward." So... if a male priesthood bearer prefers to go by "Sister Brunson" rather than "Brother Brunson" does that mean that "Sister Brunson" might be teaching and even leading the Elders Quorum? Perhaps "Sister Brunson" may even become Bishop, Stake President or even Apostle as long as He/She doesn't act or dress up like a transgender. And what are our youth to think when the Bishop calls up "Sister Brunson" to say the opening prayer in Sacrament meeting and up comes a bearded male? And by the way, if someone requests to be addressed by their preferred pronoun does that not qualify as an attempt on their part at "social" transitioning? I could go on and on but this all adds up to moral chaos and cultural madness ... and so why should anyone be surprised that 13% of BYU students now self-identify as gay as you recently reported. I'm only surprised the percent is not much higher and it propably is if we included all the "undeclared" and "undecided" among them. The youth today haven't a prayer as "Heteronormativity" is rapidly being replaced by "Transnormativity."

This was a great overview of what the policy actually states and the fact that we should treat everyone in a Christ-like manner. I agree with all that you presented on these subjects. However, I have adult children serving in youth callings and have other experiences with LGBTQ situations in church etc. The frustration is the fact that there is a growing contingency that is promoting the lifestyle, recruiting, and openly pushing the idea that this is okay and the church needs to get onboard with that. Meanwhile, they often get accommodated in the name of "love" and straight kids who would like to have a church experience without this aggressiveness that they already have to put up with at school etc, are viewed as "unchristlike" or "judgemental." It seems to the youth that everyone else needs to keep quiet about their temptations and not campaign to normalize acting on them except this group. It is a bit out of hand.

@Cwic Media I pray for those individuals. However, if you read the whole chapter in 3 Nephi, I believe the Lord is talking to those individuals as well as I. 14 Therefore blessed are ye if ye shall keep my commandments, which the Father hath commanded me that I should give unto you. 15 Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye be led away captive by him. If they have gone so far as to try and make a binary change, they did not listen to the Lord. Something has disconnected. They committed sin. How do you repent from something like that. That is between them and the Lord, just as my sins are between me and the Lord. They are listening to the world, therefore, Satan. They should come to church, we should welcome with open arms, love them. Try to help, but ultimately it is on them. If they have not made an attempted transition, there is no sin.

We had a transgender person in our ward for a while. Yes these people are welcome at church but there is something unnerving about a biological man, dressed as a woman, going to Relief Society. From what I understand, the Church position is that someone can identify but they can’t socially act it out. So how does that work in the real world? The thing that concerned me the most was, which bathroom would this person use? I would not feel comfortable with him (yes him) using the same bathroom as young girls.

Greetings Greg, I don’t see a problem with the wording as it encapsulates what the world calls it as well as it’s wording seems clear. Ive got a friend who’s daughter thought she was a guy and was headed to suicidal path, ended up transitioning. He was a Bishop and ended up leaving the church over this. She did transition to a he. Gender dysphoria . Mental illness is a terrible thing. So this girl who transitioned has not only cut off her boobs, but I have no idea what a girl gets to try to be a guy besides a haircut and clothing. She really felt she was a guy and she was a pretty girl. The mind and feelings are confusing and I think Satan has created this downward path obviously to lead people down to destruction. Satan wants to destroy the family

The comments here aren't very kind. But I have decided to share my experience. I am an adult, (35) and I was treated for a mental disorder, I can agree it is. And because of that, I was approved for medical transition. I was a church member before all of this, but because I knew it was not accepted back then, I stopped attending the meetings. Not because I stopped believing. I am exactly the same person, with the same values, with the same beliefs. Believe it or not, not all of us are crazy internet teens. Nor perverts, or whatever, I live my life with honesty, kindness, and love for others. A month ago, I was visited by sister missionaries who showed me this new policy. I can't say I was totally welcomed back into the ward by the other members, but I was glad at least they allowed me to cross the door. However. I still think it's rather unfortunate we are allowed on "restrictions". When some of us could do so much in service for the church and the heavenly father. We all are trying to be the best versions of ourselves, but we are human, tempted, and faulty. There are many biological men and women inside the church who knowingly are not doing their best, and are still allowed many privileges they don't even know how blessed they are to be allowed to have (Rather than us thinking we did something wrong by being born like this, other members should question if they are being worthy or they just were born lucky). I know in my heart, that there are many of us who would prove to the lord just how worthy we are if we were allowed the chance. Just the same as people of color I guess....I suppose we just have to wait for the heavenly father to decide when and if we will be, because it will be his call, not any judgment and reservation his followers have.

@@Greg-McIver cassation is hard to prove. Scientifically we cannot find the cause of someone having same sex attraction. There is no gay gene that we have discovered that we can specifically point out that is the cause of same sex attraction. Proving it as a social contagion is likewise hard to prove, which for many other things is likewise debated in health studies. Knowing the root cause of having any weakness of the flesh that is contrary to the will of God is not the issue in living the gospel. Weather we submit our will to Heavenly Father is the issue. Will we like Christ submit our will to the Father and overcome the world or will we give heed to weaknesses of flesh contrary to the will of God?

If you're still irritated with any of the decisions just remember the parable of the wheat and tares. God will gather us in the end and separate the wheat from the tares. Or if you watch the chosen "you're going to catch all kinds of fish, I will sort them out later" Baptism for the dead is so we all can get the ordinances ourselves so God is a just God and we are all judged equally. In the end every knee will bow and every tongue confess Jesus is the Christ. So whether they are baptized in this life or proxy in the next we're all going to be baptized.

I didn't mention if the ward members should call the person by their preferred pronouns and if they can use the incorrect restroom. If a ward was doing that where my kids go, my kids would not be allowed to go to that ward. Also, if the person isn't being counseled to start wearing appropriate clothing to their sex then I would also take my kids out. Jesus said to love everyone but he didn't say that it is OK to sin. He told the woman to go and and sin no more. Not to come and continue to sin. To love is to correct those in error. Just as it says in Proverbs that just a father corrects his child God corrects us.

I am struggling. How or why am I struggling? All my church life I have been taught that certain things are wrong. Homosexuality and Transgender Dysphoria and surgically changed individuals have always been a sin, in fact a grievous sin. Hence my struggle! Once the door is cracked, usually, it's a matter of time before other concessions are allowed. When the blacks received the Priesthood I received personal revelation that it was the Lord's will. I was brought to tears and joy filled my heart. I know customs change but doctrines don't. For these reasons I am having trouble going to church. I know that God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know the Priesthood has been restored along with the Lord's Church. Thus my struggle.

No, you are teaching them the doctrines of Christ. You can teach them to be nice towards others who believe or practice different from you, but you don’t have to condone their actions. Some were nice about our differences, even if they didn’t believe in my religion, others told me I was going to hell. You know which ones truly was Christlike.

My whole issue with this transgender stuff is there treating this plastic surgery of mutilation as if it is down to the DNA changing who these people are. And it’s not they are changing the appearance of a person. I think that we all have things in life that we are tempted by and struggle with. I think God is very clear about the way he wants things done. Our bodies are temples and they should be treated as such. I do believe that these people that are dealing with this dysphoria really are struggling. It’s not just their physical appearance it’s a spiritual battle that they are dealing with. And I’m sure a great deal of them it is quite scary to not know who you are. And we know as members of our church there have been a great deal of true miracles that have happened not just personally but worldwide. I will not be losing faith in God I will not be losing faith in his plan because the world is trying to convince me otherwise. I think we all need to pray for strength. And compassion towards these people that are struggling so deeply. And I think that we need to be as Christlike as we possibly can. And I don’t think being kind of someone is condoning bad behavior.

Actually, they allow the use of a preferred name on your record but not preferred pronouns. Changing preferred pronouns and an opposite gender name, according to the manual, is part of social transitioning. "Leaders also counsel against social transitioning. A social transition includes changing dress or grooming, or changing a name or pronouns, to present oneself as other than his or her biological sex at birth. Leaders advise that those who socially transition will experience some Church membership restrictions for the duration of this transition."

It appears that there is no need to repent of being transgender in order to qualify for baptism because it's not a sin to believe you are another gender? Then is it plausible that being transgender is considered a mental illness or handicap that one is reasonably born with and broadly similar to other mental illnesses? Seems like a similar approach to homosexuality. You don't have to repent of it before baptism, but you can't practice it after baptism. For transgender people, transitioning would be practicing it. If mental illness is the reasoning in the policy, then would it ever be openly shared? I suppose not because civility would break down faster than a soup sandwich.
