Have you seen "Dragged Across Concrete" yet? I saw that movie and it has that Euro Crime feel! From S. Craig Zahler, the director of Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Bone Tomahawk.

Brendan O'Keeffe The Big Racket is my favorite Eurocrime film at number 1, and number 2 would have to be The Boss by Fernando Di Leo, 3 would have to be Street Law, 4 The Mad Dog Killer, and 5 Caliber 9 also by Fernando Di Leo.

"Violent Beast, Gun!" Damnit, Gagic! You just had to name-drop the rapiest one in the entire genre! That's it, you're off the case! Hand in your gun and your badge! You're a loose cannon, McGarnagle! (Seriously though, that movie is pretty crazy to watch) PS: My personal fav is Live like a Man, Die like a Cop. Two models playing cops that are even more callous and violent than the criminals are!

Wooooo, somebody other than me likes Contraband! So many great pulp crime flicks came out of Italy and can be thanked for the modern “ gritty “ crime dramas we have, most are better in a lot of ways too. Always good shit, man, love that you spotlighted a little recognized subgenre like this 👍

Fuck yeah, this is a totally awesome subgenre, sadly under-represented too when it comes to these films coming to blu-ray these days, I can't wait to snag a copy of Grinhouse Releasing's blu of Rome Armed to the Teeth! Would be awesome to see you cover some of these specific films in the future. Cheers for putting me onto Faster and The Town too, checking out those ASAP!

William Friedkin's To Live and Die in L.A. is my favorite crime thriller. Everything's great about it: the acting, the soundtrack, the cinematography, the car chase scene, the locations. I also love Heat and Donnie Brasco.

Plus the Poliziotteschi genre was an absolute farm league for a lot of great Italian film composers. For every Morricone there were at least two Franco Micalizzi and Fabio Frizzis, that would then go on to form the foundation of italo-disco synth sounds from the 70s onwards, even to today's modern syynthwave resurgence. Seriously, go listen to Beyond the Door and The Visitor. Spaghetti Exorcism, anyone?

When the track from Street Law dropped in Faster, it got me so pumped! The Euro Crime genre is possibly my favorite of the genre films to come out of Italy around this time. Tomas Milian being one of my favorite actors from the genre he showed up in so many kick ass films. Check out Almost Human, one of his best performances also staring Henry Silva directed by Umberto Lenzi

I'm discovering this channel. I watch what you call Euro-Crime movies in italian, so the titles might be quite different. People here might want to check out "Mean Frank and Crazy Tony" (1973) with Lee van Cleef (he was hugely popular in Italy) and "The Day of the Cobra" (1980) with Franco Nero.

@@CineMasochist That era's titles deserve a study by themselves. I actually hate their klunkiness, but it's a trademark. Incidentally, what you call : "live like a cop, die like a man" in italian is actually "Men are born, cops are killed".

If I'm allowed to make a couple more suggestions : "Savage Three" (1975) - in italian "Boiling Mud". And "City under siege" (1974) - in italian "A man, a city". Anyhow, a fairly complete but not 100% exhaustive list is here : it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Film_poliziotteschi

What are your favorites Cine-Masochist? Please reply back to me because I can easily crack in a top 10 10.)Rome Armed To The Teeth(I love the Hunchback so much he is such a cool character, the ending could have been better, but still a fabulous effort from Umberto Lenzi.) 9.)Almost Human(One of Thomas Milan’s sleaziest characters) 8.)Violent Rome(I would have preferred more shootout action, but we still get a ton of other entertaining action scenes such as some nice fist fights and car chases.) 7.)The Cynic, The Rat, and The Fist(In my opinion the superior film to it’s predecessor Rome Armed to The Teeth) 6.)Violent Naples(One of the most action packed Dirty Harry type films ever with the fantastic Maurizio Merli) 5.)The Mad Dog Killer(What an insane antagonist in such and awesome film) 4.)Caliber 9(Great one by Di Leo, and love the mafia like feel to it) 3.)Street Law(A better Death Wish than the first Death Wish if you ask me an amazingly sympathetic and respectable performance by Franco Nero) 2.)The Boss(An intense hit man film with an excellent antihero performance by Henry Silva) 1.)The Big Racket(Dark gritty and action packed a true classic in the genre)

The poliziotteschis aren't the movies Castanelli, Fulci and Deodato are known for, it's the "Z-Grade" films. Castanelli did the Mad Max rip offs, which are low budget and fun but are RIP OFFS. Fulci's movies are fun but tend to be all over the place, most of them being incoherent as all hell. Deodato did "Cannibal Holocaust", that explains itself. They'll have their fans, myself being one, but if exploitation films are getting released over the gritty crime dramas, what else can they be know for? P.S. Tarintino wouldn't have a career if it weren't for Hong Kong movies, but that's my opinion.
