For Assassins Creed Origins, they used a good number of historians {4 years to make} to get the city [And world] accurate - Its wonderful playing the game, and running around in this era, especially when you know its the way that it looked. Right down to the people selling the correct items and food, buildings and overall look of the world of the era!

Assassins Creed Origins used a good number of historians {4 years to make}..And after that they censored and show fake history. Because in a museum you can show naked ancient art for a child, but the virtual version is dangerous ... That's why I didn't buy the game.

Exploring the game was cool and everything lol, I I understand Romans being able to build a empire in Mediterranean sea cuz Italy is in the middle but I'm surprised the ancient Egypt didn't build a Mediterranean empire the Nile river was the life blood of Egypt so just monopolize the whole river inland building towns and cities multiple of them and have a huge population to have and just have a river navy going up and down the river with archers protecting the area from enemies and with the big food supply and population to support a huge navy with archers using wood for body armor and the plenty of reeds that grow in the river for large supplies of arrows and build a naval sea empire being able to take the African , European and middle eastern coast and black sea area to and be smart about it and not go to far inland spreading out too thin and they should be able to hold on to with a 300,000 man navy

@@deandeann1541 you're probably thinking of the Library of Pergamum (in present-day Turkey), second only to Alexandria's library. Apparently Mark Anthony took the scrolls to Cleopatra as Julius Caesar had damaged the Alexandria one in fighting, though the library carried on at Pergamum. Books at Alexandria were on papyrus; those at Pergamum on parchment. The word parchment is derived from Pergamum. No evidence that the Pergamum library burned though.

In real life Alexandria and pyramids are roughly 175 km apart,in the game they’re only 3,5 km apart... From what’ve heard Egypt in this game includes almost half of the entire country,so distances are cut by about 1/50. There are open world games with better scale ratios compared to their real life counterparts but well at least this game gives you the illusion of being huge for the most part.

The only problem is that it isn't accurate. Ra-qed means "Ra (Egyptian Sun god) dwells," not "the building." Rhakotis means Rha's home. So it's clear the Egyptians didn't hate the city, it was the city of their god! Egypt and Greece and Rome were all ruled by the same noble families that control worldwide shipping and commerce. They did mention that the ship owners were called, "naukleros." This means, "ship inheritance," or "shipping assigned by lot."

Really good - gives a more real feeling than any of these kind of videos. Thanks. If possible: perhaps make the pedestrians in distant views have a smaller distance in each step while also slowing down the number of steps per unit time. If that works, it might be really amazing - looking even more like we're looking at an actual film of a real historical view - and that would be really amazing. Also, the galloping horses seem slightly like they are gliding over the pavement rather than trotting or galloping along. But these are just tweaks. The simulation already captures a lot of the real feel of ancient Alexandria.

Alexandria was influenced by the past of Egypt because the Greeks, under Alexander and then Ptolemy, didn't seek to supplant and defeat the culture and civilization, instead they respected and exalted the Egyptian culture and civilization, respected the population. That was Alexander's vision for all the locations he conquered. They brought Egypt to new heights. Hellenic Egypt is one of the most interesting and amazing culture's in history imo. Instead of seeking to defeat and weaken the native culture like many other armies would've done, the Greeks added their own fields of knowledge and enlightenment, gymnasiums, academies, education, government organization. and kept the native Egyptian customs, religion, architecture. Which resulted in a very organic and respected relationship between the 2 cultures blending together in a peaceful and constructive manner. Cleopatra herself was a descendant of Ptolemy and from his descent and dynasty, as were various other Egyptian princesses and princes during Hellenic Egypt That's why the Egyptians liked being under the Hellenic dynasty, that protected them from the Persian attacks (Persia in that time was under a power hungry ruler attacking other people's and Greece itself)

This history of Alexandria omits the creation of the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Hebrew Tanakh (Old Testament), which was composed within the walls of the library over a period of three centuries (3rd through 1st century BCE). Greeks United? What Greeks? They didn't want to unite under Macedonia, they were forced to do this. A lot of greeks didn't want to do more than liberate Greek cities in Asia Minor. They didn't want to go any further and go into Persian territory and fight persians there. They didn't want any revenge for something that was done 200 years ago! They wanted to trade with persians, not make war with them. Persia was not a threat anymore. Alexander slaughtered in his wars best and most able men of Hellas. And later his successors slaughtered much more. Greece was weakened and absolutely defenseless before such greedy predator that was Rome. It is Alexander the great's fault that Hellas and hellenic people were genocided and slaughtered by Rome. If it were not for him and his unnecessary conquests and insane campaigns, which were not needed by anyone except himself, then there would have been no ruinous wars of his successors, the Diadochs. Hellas would have been strong and unbroken, it would have been able to resist the Roman invaders. Then the Hellenic culture and statehood would not have been destroyed, hellenic people would not have been massively killed and sold into slavery.

Rome was a pure bandit state which needed other countries and nations primarily for massive theft. It stole from them. Carthage was destroyed because romans wanted to steal from them. It was the only reason. And because they were jealous of their wealth. Corinth was destroyed. Its inhabitants were killed or sold into slavery. Seventy (!) cities in Epirus were destroyed, its inhabitants (150 000 people)sold into slavery. Before that, several cities were massacred by Emilius Paulus by his own initiative. Flamininus plundered Eretria and Elatea. He wanted to destroy all Boeotia. Before the intervention of the Achaeans, he managed to make a punitive campaign against Coronea. Cities in Italy were massacred during Second punic war. Marcellus massacared Syracuse, its inhabitants sold into slavery. He massacred also Leontium, its inhabitants were killed. The city Enna was massacared. Tarentum was massacared twice. First, after Pyrrhys war, Thirty thousand of the Greek inhabitants were sold as slaves and many works of art were carried off to Rome. Second time, during second punic war. Thirty thousand of the Greek inhabitants were sold as slaves(again).Tarentum's art treasures, including the statue of Nikè (Victory) were carried off to Rome. Cities that supported king Mythridates were massacred, including Athens and Thebes, and more. Greek cities were often plundered and enslaved during roman civil wars for picking the wrong side. There were many cases of mass slavery in the territories conquered by Rome for the inability to pay high Roman taxes, as well as debts to Roman usurers. This horrible phenomenon was common for population in Greece, Asia minor and Bithynia. Strabo wrote about Strabo wrote about the poverty of many cities and its citizens, their sparse population, declining birth rates in them. Both Strabo and Polibius said that many Greek cities fell into decay. In addition to the monstrous taxation, there were constant illegal monstrous extortions. Roman governors, consuls, proconsuls, legates and others robbed cities of their wealth, stole, took out objects of art, libraries, paintings and everything of value. They enriched themselves at the expense of Greek cities and Greek citizens.

It would be marvellous thing to travel back in time, as just an observer to witness the truth of history. History being written by the victor is affected by agenda, but to be able to see the truth of it would be a great gift. I'd love to see the true history of north west Europe as well, as Roman influence eradicated all cultures that had gone before. Archaeology has shown artwork in the form of metal work which would suggest that the culture of the tribes was anything but barbaric, and that it had its own moral and cultural yardstick, far superior to anything recorded history. I wish I could afford to be a student of the truth. It would be worth knowing ✌️☮️🌍❤️

I always think it’s a great shame that nothing is left of ancient Alexandria, above ground, anyway. It was probably the most magnificent city of the ancient world.

AC Origins creators done a really good job, except for the mountains in the background (for the better scenic view). Alexandria is located at the Delta of the river Nile. Deltas are created by deposition of sediment that is carried by a river. Alexandria area is nothing more than centimeters to a few meters above sea level. There are no mountains in sight.

Evidence for convenience... Nothing is certain about Alexandria's library destiny, and the fire mentioned in 32:23 is the most reliable information about an event with viable connection to it. But in the video, in spite of this, the focus is put on Theodosius order to close temples, which, however, had nothing to do with burning them, because usually these beautiful buildings were converted into churches, like in Rome, where these conversions literally saved the Roman Forum from disappearing. But... as Theodosius was a Christian emperor, "of course" he is to blame sameway.

The game graphics is more realistic than the video. This is video has low/medium graphics setting, which sucks. I play at ultra graphics settings and it looks much better.

two minute in he says " sumptuous" for the second time... how many more times will he say it? lol The birds are great. Supposedly the Civilizations game(predates assassins creed) also features Alexandria in one part. A good film called Agora features Hypatia the female mathematician and philosopher and fires in Alexandria.

I came here after learning about the Colossus of Rhodes, it's crazy that a earthquake destroyed it only 54 years after it was erected. I'm interested in massive and tough things being destroyed by nature but I don't particularly care for Greece/Rome.

What a **great pity** it is that the Lighthouse was destroyed by earthquakes! This video doesn't really make that clear. The lighthouse toppled into the harbour and the Citadel of Qaitbay (which still stands today) was built on the **base** of it.

When Alexander named Alexandria in Egypt it was 'not' a habit yet. Alexandria wasn't the most important city in the Greek world, it was the most important in the World (and to be more subtle you can say Mediterranean World) at the time. The Greek 'World' rose and died with Alexander. There was a good reason that no Ptolemaic king of Egypt wanted to rule from Greece, but I will let you think about the answer.

This video is created from many different segments edited into a single documentary from the History tour of Assassin's Creed Origins. I tried In the editing process to tone down the end of sequence sounds but much of it could not be helped for better video flow. Regardless I hope you enjoyed the video and thank you for stopping by.
