During the Civil War, James J. Andrews and his raiders hijacked a Confederate train for the Union Army and led its conductor on a wild chase.
About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation's history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

@Valkyrie autocorrect is a bitch sometimes, or maybe I am just that stupid that I cannot comprehend the differences in meaning of certain words above a third grade reading level. Whatever you choose to be the truth is probably good enough. But thanks for the correction.

William Fuller was a well known conductor at the time and every time he needed another locomotive he just yelled YANKEES STOLE OUR TRAIN HELP US CHASE EM DOWN and since he was well known and a trysted employee if the Western and Atlantic R.R they let him have it the locomotives he used were the Yonah, the William R. Smith and finally the Texas he had to abandon the Yohnah due to two south bound fright trains blocking his path he then boarded the William R. Smith and chased the general until he came upon a break in the tracks where the Raiders had pulled it up he then stopped and used the texas and chased the general until the general ran out of woodand water juat north of Ringgold GA all 23 raiders were captured 8 were executed the rest returned to the north after escape and prisoner exchange Andrews raiders were the first men to be awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor both the General and Texas are preserved today the general is at the southern museum of civil war and locomotive history and the texas is at the atlanta history center.

I'm astounded at how teachers manage to make history boring. I used to sleep thru that class, but when I was able to travel a little, see historical sites and then learned some of the actual stories of historical events, I've loved it. People are batshit crazy, always have been, always will be, and the real, true stories of some of the things that have gone down are so ridiculous that they would be unbelievable as fiction. If only teachers would tap into that side of things instead of just focusing on dull dates and timelines, kids would love learning. Game of Thrones is tame in comparison to real history.

I am a direct descendant of Samuel Slavens (one of the 7 raiders hanged). They had to hang him twice (rope broke) because he was such a large man. Several family members, including one of my kids bears his name. Also these raiders were the 1st recipients of the US Congressional Medal of Honor. Loved this, I was cracking up. It was after all a 100 plus years ago.

The Civil War was when we went from being "these united states" to "The United States". Its effects are felt to this day, you can't understand modern politics unless you start there. And the stories from actual soldiers, thru their letters, are indeed crazy. I pray we never see anything like that again, but I'm a little nervous given our current divide.

Although the US was obviously a united country for nearly a century before I fully get what you mean. Shelby Foote said something similar.. Sadly many seem to want to see the US as "These united states", I can think of plenty of heated conversations I've had with pro-confederates - and not just the Lost Causers, but people that ALSO actually strongly believe in secession.

If he owns the movie rights then his plan is to do it but he hasn't gotten backing for it just yet. As much as Hollywood is starving for new franchises, they're also Their Own Worst Enemy since they're very hesitant to back anything that isn't part of a franchise. Look at white chicks, all these years later and they still haven't gotten the green light, and that movie was loved.

Oh man, I've lived right next to the memorial for this in Kennesaw (previously known as Big Shanty). There's a bridge with a relief of the train carved into the side of it with the quote "20 minutes for breakfast!" because that's the takeaway from the whole debacle - you can not separate a true Southerner from their grits and biscuits and gravy for ANYTHING. Plus, they're all super excited to get their train back, but like... that's such a small victory guys.

Remember the movie speed where that bus had to jump the unfinished portion of the bridge so Keanu and Sandra Bullock could go to bone town? It was probably something similar.
