@@Fartking_69 G10 is the material of the scales. For example, the knife in the video is micarta, which is a material that does not slip. There is also wood scales, and carbon fiber scales available too. G10 is a rugged, good all around material for scales and handles. Living in the city, and not doing much hard labor I do prefer carbon fiber for the looks.

I’ve been carrying the exact same knife for a few weeks now and think it’s almost perfect. The micarta scales are a little too “smooth” though, I prefer more texture. Nick may feel it’s too vanilla but I really like the simplicity of the design. If they had a 2.25” full flat grind version, I’d own that as well. I showed to to a coworker and now he’s a proud owner of the black G10 version. Excellent job Civivi.

Great vid; love all of your work Nick. Keep it up! I just picked up the brass version. It’s an amazing knife. Definitely heavier because of the brass, but it still doesn’t weigh my pocket down. This thing fits great in the pocket and disappears - with the way they did the flipper tab, there absolutely no “pocket pecking”. It looks like BHQ is doing another run of the brass, copper, and wood versions. As of this comment, BHQ has 7 versions in stock, and the 5 other versions of copper/brass/wood are all coming again). I personally don’t have any issues with the liners/scales not being flush; while ideal, it really doesn’t change the ergos for me and aesthetically is no issue in my opinion. The clip not being recessed has not been an issue with any type of pocket snagging thus far. My biggest gripe (mostly because I’m a lefty), is that the clip is not reversible. Not a killer, as I can go right handed carry for my left back pocket, and honestly even front left pocket isn’t a concern because it stays far the the side. It seems like in 2020, a reversible clip should just be standard at this point however.

The liners being slightly larger than the scales is part of the look, it was designed that way and I myself, dig it... I am also a lanyard guy, so I love the lanyard hole, even without it doesn't bother me, but is located perfect, and peeps should actually try attaching one, you may like it... The new metal scales look awesome also, I have the copper/black blade, and a grey g-10

The Civivi Elementum seems to be a step up from the RAT2 D2. My coworker broke his knife at work and I recommended the Elementum as a replacement. It is mostly because I want one to replace my RAT2 D2. Unlike the Elementum, the R2D2 does not have stainless liners!my R2D2 had significant rust on the liners after taking it to work for just a couple of months. There was water involved but I always conscientiously dried the blade. The rust happened between the carbon fiber scales and the non stainless liners.

This is my favorite "budget" knife of 2019. I have the Damascus with CF scales, so the black hardware matches better. Haven't had any issues with the pocket clip snagging, but it would be nice if it was recessed. I like the shadowbox scales, and the liners are so perfectly chamfered that I have noticed any discomfort. The lanyard hold is kinda odd, but it does break up the monotony of the knife a bit. All things that would be annoying on a $150+ knife, but for this price I just can't get myself worked up about them. Eventually I'll get a Rosewood one assuming they do get restocked at some point. Maybe I should just make my own scales.

Just ordered an s35vn and g10 model. Looks great. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m currently hooked on spyderco compression locks, so it’s gonna be weird going to a liner lock, but there’s not really anything wrong with liner lock, so I’ll get over it. I like the spydie hole but it’s hard to beat a flipper tab too. Oh and a lanyard hole is dumb on this kind of knife. Would have been better without it.

I have 4 of these Elementums, yes they're all that good. I have the one you show here in the brown micarta, the Black Ebony wood and the brass and copper stonewashed handled with black blades all 4 are great knives and there are no differences in performance between any of them. The best part about the Civivi knives are that none of the models I've seen have the usual bill boarding on the blades or handles, I think all knife makers can take a lesson from these guys in what the consumers want in their knife purchases.

WE knives definitely noticed how amazing the Gent is that they manufacture for (mass) Drop and made it more affordable. With the Gent now at $100 or more, this is probably a better option for most people. But... S35VN, titanium, and overall cleaner design still make that knife a winner for me.

I agree, although I own two of these Elementums I would still grab the gent select if possible, which I’ve missed the drops on and really want to secure in cf. biggest attraction for me of the gent is the flatter looking grind. The hollow grind is the only thing I don’t love about the Elementum.
@artiet5982

Also, the Elementum s35vn micarta is now listed to be released and is $90... makes the gent (now) seem like a better or at least equal value to this knife given all aspects considered (gents titanium liners, etc).

Great review. 👍 I like a lanyard on a small knife because it makes it easier to find, and pull out the knife from a cargo pocket. Civivi could have kept the lanyard in the same place, but used a hidden lanyard like on the CJRB Centros. You would have your full scale coverage, & the crazy lanyard people like myself would also be happy. 😁 Win win. I don't like it when knife manufacturers mess up a pocket clip location, or screw up the knife's aesthetics just to incorporate a lanyard that the majority of people never use.

This is a nice knife but I agree on a few points. The black hardware looks especially out of place with the exposed liners. It's okay with black scales but this keeps me away from both the micarta and rosewood versions. I'd be open to aftermarket scales that catch up the liners or delete the lanyard hole. I'd also be open to a good stainless blade alternative. Nice job on the review.

It's very nice in hand and looks amazing still after use everyday at work it just has a chip in the handle scale from where I dropped it on concrete so I wouldn't recommend doing that lol. It was very sharp when i first got it and it glided through boxes with ease and it's held up pretty nicely so far for not having a sharpener to use. I haven't had any experience with the 50 dollar one but I think if you like the look then go for it my only concern would be the handles being smooth and it being a little difficult to hold on it with greasy gloves on since I work at a wendy's

@@Brandon.47 hey that's awesome, thanks for the real review! Sorry to hear about that chip from dropping it 😭 sounds like it keeps it's edge a long time. Seems like a good deal, I'll have to pick one up soon

The BladeHQ guys have said they keep ordering the different varieties but they keep selling out as soon as they come in. I was barely able to get mine and they were sold out the next day

I have this knife, same color even. It is in my regular rotation. It is a really nice knife for the price.

A lot of knives on here just aren’t me, but, were they not illegal to carry here in the uk, I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat... especially if it came with raw copper scales!

CIVIVI Elementum Liner Lock Knife Green Micarta (2.9" Black SW S35VN) did you have the S35VN blade on this one? I'm new to knives and I saw this at BladeHQ for $81. so is that good for that metal and micarta handle? Help, please. Thank you.

I bought the same knife. Yes, that bhq exclusive is a great knife. It has thinner blade stock and is a very good slicer vs normal editions. S35VN is a big step up from d2.

I think Nick should start ending his videos by rating the knife he reviews on a scale of 1/10 but taking the price into consideration, I feel like this knife is a 10/10 for the retail price of 50$

agreed on the knife being a 10/10 at that price range.

Honestly I bought a couple and didn’t like them - sent them back. Price was irrelevant at that point - I’d rather have just kept my $20 disposable knife until I could afford a dragonfly or chaparral. I really enjoy (even in 440c, $35) the bean Gen2. Your mileage may vary of course, I just come here to try to understand the hype 🤷‍♀️

I know the frame sticks out past the scales like you said but it doesn't bother me at all. Everything is ground down so smooth that you can hardly feel it.

Seeing as over half his demerits seem to be aesthetic, which is always highly subjective, I feel like this should more solidly be a gem. I've learned over the last couple years that my opinion and Nick's differ in this reguard. Polished titanium scale is just leave me cold, makes a knife look monochrome and boring, but if you put micarta on pretty much anything, you have my immediate attention.

Another issue that Nick overlooked is that the pocket clip is right-side carry only. Sure, there's nothing to prevent you from putting it in your left pocket, but then it's tip-up with the blade facing inward. Would it have taken that much more effort to route out a recess and drill a couple of holes on the other side?

Yeah that kinda sucks. I'm a lefty, and I'm used to right side carry in left pocket by now, but a true left side carry is still so much better. Us lefties get the fucking shaft in the knife world so often.

The Governor looks better to me, though I prefer the Elementum blade shape. Now you've got me wondering if the liners stick out on the Governor as well. It looks like the scales are contoured better, so that might help..Also, really like what people are saying about the slicey-ness of the Shredder, but don't love it's looks. Is the Shredder a lot more slicey than the Governor? If anyone has any answers to these questions, feel free to reply. I've held off on getting a Civivi up to this point for various reasons, but they're getting harder and harder to resist. My remaining reason is that, in the final analysis, I already have a bunch of D2 knives, and they just don't hold an edge long enough. Yes, it doesn't take much to bring it back, but I have to sharpen less with better steels. I know people will say, then don't buy budget knives, but the point is Civivi is getting so good, it's making me want one anyway...
