@juanpablojones

In 1977, everyone was considered a hippy other than Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Roxy Music. Bands like Clash were only a few years younger than the so-called hippy generation but spouted all this generational rhetoric to make themselves seem more relevant to teenagers at the time. The Pistols were the biggest bulshitters tho and Lydon is even more of a wanker these days. Many of these bands all had long hair and into prog rock a few years earlier of course. Love the Clash tho. 😀

The irony about the ‘hippie’ thing is that they are now the ‘hippies’ (or worse, irrelevant and forgotten) A few years ago in London my daughter and I happened across a Clash exhibition - 40th anniversary of London Calling or something. Anyway my daughter was pretty bored by it. I was in awe. “Look at these photos on the wall’ I said, ‘this is what kids looked like when I was at junior school’. “Yea, whatever. Can we go now?’ was her reply.

In a sense, they're like Heath Ledger because they are also acting; 6 months earlier: Mick and Joe were hippies and Paul was going nowhere.

@@Hammy5641 Joe was a squatter who turned his back to his middle class background. He was anti-establishment and politically vocal. Punk was an obvious choice to make. Mick is a working class lad raised in council shitholes. So is Paul. Paul going nowhere? He 'd had artistic ambitions before as a painter. There was no acting. They're all genuine, they weren't in it for the money or the fame.
