That little blues lick solo bit in the intro of the song has inspired me to start exploring adding little lead lines into my rhythm playing, so I have Mick Jones to thank for that.

Hello, great double album, one of the best ever made. Clampdown, Guns of Brixton, Wrong 'em Boyo, Death or Glory, Brand New Cadilac, Jimmie Jazz, Rudie Can't Fail, The Right Profile, and the fantastic B-side to London Calling... Armagideon Time, all great songs not even mentioned in the review. So many different styles and emotions, just a fantastic double album.

This album is just so great, maybe one of my all time favorites. I got this on CD in Japan, over ten years ago, and listened the hell out of it in a CD Walkman, every track was like magic to me, especially the ska and reggae influences, which were pretty new to me back then. I finally got it on vinyl last year, as a birthday present from my sister. As I had lost my CD copy, it was the return of an old friend. The details I get on my different setups brought a lot more light on it too. It really feels like a rowdy album, even their disco-ish tracks. Great stuff from beginning to end.

I've only heard this album once and I admit that I had an aprehension because of the reputation of punk rock... I accidentally heard it thinking it was the song London Calling but I ended up listening to the whole album... I was very surprised in a very good way! I really liked this diversity of sound in it. Let's listen to it a second time :)

"The Only Band That Matters" That statement always gave me a laugh, but I think The Clash totally pull it off. They're so much more than just a punk band, and this album is a perfect example. It's tough to say whether I prefer this or Combat Rock as my favorite Clash album because both are loaded with classic tracks. It's been a while since I've listened to London Calling all the way through, but now I have to give it a play after watching this. Such a great album.

I love this record, one of my favourite Clash records. I have distinct memories of hearing lots of these songs during the summer growing up because the Clash were played on the radio here in London a lot back in the 80's. So this record just makes me think of hot indian summers, water fights, and BBQ's. And talking about lot of songs to take in, Sandanista! (their 4th record) is 36 songs on 4LP's
@mikeroeder
@mikeroeder 9 жыл бұрын
Jason Fisk Vinyl Rewind I grew up in a small town that didn't have access to The Clash until I suppose Combat Rock and to me The Clash were pretty much only "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and "Rock the Casbah." But, a friend of mine lent me a 90 minute cassette that was a dub of as much of Sandinista! as would fit. She got it from a guy who was probably five years older than we were and had a pretty epic record collection. That tape completely changed how I thought of The Clash, and it seemed like a kind of "underground" find that not a lot of people knew about. To me Sandinista! is still my favorite Clash album even with all of the oddball tracks on it-- the really heavy dub reworkings and the children singing and backwards tape. It's almost a Sgt. Pepper's in the catalog of The Clash. I really think that songs like "The Magnificent Seven," "Police on My Back," "Charlie Don't Surf, "Somebody Got Murdered," and my personal favorite "Midnight Log."
@VinylRewind
@VinylRewind 9 жыл бұрын
Jason Fisk Yes, Sandanista, I have yet to dive into that monster. I watched an interview when the surviving members all kind of looked at each when asked about that album. Nice review. I have the 180 gram re-issue of London Calling, and I think they did an excellent job on it. It sounds fantastic, they boxed the cover a bit, to give both LP's more room inside, and it's on a white Epic label that resembles a promo copy a bit. One of my favorite tracks that you didn't mention is their rockabilly cover of Ronnie Hawkin's Brand New Cadillac. It's a toss up between this and the American version of their first album for my Clash favorite. Keep the videos coming and take care...

Tim Allen Ah sweet, that's good to hear they gave those records some more room. It sounds like those labels are mimicking the UK pressing www.discogs.com/Clash-London-Calling/release/470912 Yes, I could (maybe should have) mentioned it. It's a great follow up track to London Calling, pulls an almost 180 on the listener. I'm in my early 50's and yes, it was an album that had to "grow on me" over the years. Honestly, considering how much I love this classic album, I really didn't like it all as a whole for many years. (Weird, I know, right??) For many years I considered the album to have one great song per side and that was that. These songs were "London Calling" side 1, "Clampdown" side 2, "Death Or Glory" side 3 and of course "Train In Vain (Stand By Me) side 4. While, for me, these are still the best songs on the album, I wouldn't have "The Clash-London Calling" any other way!

you are partially right, side 1 and 2 are crazy stone cold classics, side 3 and 4 are a step down, but just barely. Record two is solid with great music, but can't quite compete with record one. Side 3 has Boyo, Koka Kola which are both good, and Death or Glory is one of the great Clash tracks of all time.

Here's the deal, I personally think that nothing would be better as a single LP that was a double/triple LP etc. The vision may seem more scattered on a double LP but in the end you really just have more material from the band. Even if it's filler and stuff it's still _more_ that you get for your buck, so to speak.

I’m glad it’s a double. No tracks on here I skip. Train in Vain and Spanish Bombs near the top of my favourites on here. Guns of Brixton one of my all time most loved songs.

I’d like to make a request, if it hasn’t been done already, for you to review Van Halen II. That or PAC Man Fever, could be a good change of pace.

Oh good grief. "Hateful" is polarizing? I said once - and I'll always believe it. Many (not all) people who didn't experience the 77-81 punk movement, don't know WTF they're talking about. Purchased when first released, and it has gotten better with every listen. EVERY song is raw, truthful, poignant, and artistically perfect.

Lesser songs? Side three not good enough? No mention of "The Guns of Brixton"... Please don't review Sandinista, you wouldn't get it either. It was heavily criticized then, still tragically underrated today. Cheers

No shit. This album has maybe two "meh" songs and that's only on a bad day. Every song is incredible. I must admit "Lost in the Supermarket" is phenomenal. Not including "Rudy Can't Fail" clearly shows, he doesn't get it. The song embodies everything, The Clash was. Sandinista? That album blew me away. Probably too political for most people, though.
