So I noticed the album version of This Is England sounds sped up. Joe's voice is slightly chipmunky. I lowered the key from Eb to D (just a half step) and it sounds a bit more natural. The tempo is the same, just the pitch is slightly lower.

I find something bitter sweetly beautiful in the fact that this was Clashes last great song. Because at one moment in time, the Clash was the England.

Joe Strummer was a true inspiration as a musician to all, especially the English because of his willingness to speak the truth no matter how the public would react. He, along with Bruce Springsteen shared a willingness to portray even the smallest aspect of our lives, and therefore incorporating some of Rock music's deepest elements, desire, the need for freedom, the search to find yourself, they are both without a doubt the embodiment of RocknRoll. Peace be with you, Joe!

MattanzaMafiaFedora Exactly. Pete Townshend, and The Who do this the best, but Joe, and Springsteen did so good.

goosebump inducing. do you think most of the people who put CTC in lists of worst albums ever actually listened to it? this moves me like straight to hell, up in heaven, corner soul etc. i unapologetically love this song. however, if Bernie Rhodes reads this comment ( i suspect he is the sort of person who googles himself): I believe it could have been just as great without treating Nick, Pete & Vince like dirt.

I fucking love the clash, but it’s still absolutely their worst album by a long shot. I will say that this song is definitely the album’s finest moment (North and South is a close second and I’ve got a soft spot for We Are The Clash). I can definitely forgive the garish synths and drum machines, but the mixing and production is just way too terrible in a lot of cases. I mean christ, listen to Dictator. It’s absolutely ridiculous

London calling was there best album there way to poppy after that but they influenced a hell of amount bands after then from 2nd wave Ska to new wave. You also have Generation x with Billy Idol who influenced a lot bands as well. I like the clash but I was bigger fan of the Germs, Fear and X. I do consider the Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols all the original pop punk bands while bands like Crass called them out for that same reason on punk is dead

Never noticed that 'pitch' anomaly until now... I just compared the 'official' version... and yes, it (official) does sound slightly sped up. Well done for this version. Powerful song and still very relevant. Comparison link... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9GaY9qGyMi5lXk.html

This is definitely in my top 10 Clash songs. It sounds amazing in this pitch, even the middle breakdown suddenly makes sense. You hear stuff better as well like the keyboards and the backing vocals I don't understand people that slate CTC, it's got some all-time-great Strummer/Clash moments, which I wont spoon-feed to anyone reading this, go discover them for yourself
