I fit in to a lot of old clothes when I'm not too fat for it. I have a hard time finding things that fit me as well today. Everyone really is bigger today.

Watching this made me curious about the active ingredient they mentioned AT-7. Apparently it was horribly dangerous:( “Hexachlorophene, the active ingredient in Dial, was removed from the consumer market and strictly limited in the hospital setting in the early 1970s amid reports that it caused neurological damage in infants”
@traci0dee
@traci0dee 6 жыл бұрын
The stuff really worked though, apparently. After they stopped using it, there was an outbreak of staph infections in hospital nurseries across the US. It's still in use, but not without a prescription.
@annathiika5755
@annathiika5755 6 жыл бұрын
It's mostly been replaced by the use of chlorhexidine in modern medicine and really isn't necessary in common topical use. The reason for the staph outbreak was likely because the use of antibacterials disrupts the commensal microbiome of the skin. This flora imbalance allows opportunistic infections by microbes like S.Aureus, which typically inhabit the skin nonpathogenically.

Kristen Roers Very interesting! I used Golden Dial soap on my face for all of my teens and early 20's in the 1970's and 80's in order to fight acne (didn't work!) I finally found Clinique 3-Step skin care and my skin was 100 percent better!! My point is that I didn't know about any danger posed by Dial soap!!
@Smallpotato1965
@Smallpotato1965 6 жыл бұрын
Hm, yeah, but according to Wikipedia hexachlorophene was 'a useful as a topical anti-infective, anti-bacterial agent' in soaps and toothpastes and that it was ALSO used ' in agriculture as a soil fungicide, plant bactericide, and acaricide.' So I wonder wether the problem with toxicity wasn't with the ingestion of the stuff in large amounts because it was used on food? Because some poisons are perfectly harmless when used on the skin but damaging when ingested.

People say I’m crazy but this is true: I wash my underarms, feet, and between my legs with dial and unless it’s very hot and I’m going to be sweating, I am perfectly clean smelling without deodorant! If I’ve been out sweating or getting really dirty I will wash all over first with dial then my regular body wash and loofah. She mentioned it in here, and I was taught as a child by my mom, body odor is caused by bacteria and not the act of sweating. Also, when my aunt had acne as a teen she said a dermatologist told her washing with dial will kill the acne germs on your face too. Just use a good moisturizer afterwards. I will do that occasionally or if I get a breakout and my skin stays acne free. My husband tries to tell me I’m killing good germs too and being too clean is bad for my immune system, but I have great skin and rarely ever get sick. And after taking a microbiology class in college my insistence on hand washing was confirmed! Another thing my mom preached was cross contamination.

Brushing brings down the sebum from your scalp all the way down to the ends of your hair. Also nowadays we have a tendency to shampoo and conditioner hair everyday, back then you washed your hair once a week and set it for the week. Properly set hair that was wrapped at night could last that long! Watched my great grandmother and grandmother do this :)

I'm not surprised that Hexachlorophene is dangerous but they already got a lot of things right! Nowadays we're told "Hot water opens the pores" and we rub and exfoliate too much, which fights the natural oils in our skin. Lukewarm water and tapping the face instead of rubbing are actually very good tips
