Күн бұрынJoin us for a day in Ichetucknee Springs State Park, as we attempt to paddle 2.25 miles upstream and back through the crystal clear waters of the Ichetucknee River. Long known for being one of the best tubing spots in all of Florida, Ichetucknee Springs St. Park is now, in our opinion, Florida's Best place to paddle as well. After the 4.5 mile paddle (which only one of us is able to finish), we take you to some of the best spots to eat and drink in nearby High Springs.

How do you think you'd enjoy Ichetucknee? Would you tube, paddle or kayak the river? Swim at the headspring? Or dive at the Blue Hole? With all of these options in one park it is no surprise it reaches capacity so early in the summer! Our day did NOT go as planned 😆 but we would still recommend visiting Ichetucknee! Ichetucknee River is the bomb. I haven’t been there in a while. Last time I was there I snorkeled the head springs and Blue Hole also known as the “The Jug”. Beautiful river High Springs is one of my favorite towns in Florida. Great Outdoors Restaurant is good and I’ve been to the Creamery as well. Nice adventure!

We couldn't agree more. Ichetucknee is a place we could go back to week after week, and we really loved High Springs as well. We've been so impressed with what the small towns in north Florida have to offer!

Ichetucknee Springs is one of my favorite spots in Florida! Otters are super cute but they can be aggressive too, tubers have even been attacked!

Yeah us too! We had been once before to snorkel in the blue hole, but back then tubers could float down the entire river so we weren't as interested in paddling it. But now that paddlers have half the river to themselves, it's a pretty awesome experience. We've heard stories about aggressive otters before, but thankfully have never experienced any!

Sucks about the paddle board! I have a Blackfin, it's been through hell and it's never had a leak. Highly recommend. Anyway, this was the best video on this river as the website was confusing AF LoL.

Yeah, in retrospect we kind of asked for it by leaving it on that hot concrete and railing, but we were still pretty surprised when it happened. We're glad to hear you've had such a good experience with your Blackfin. Next time we're in the market for new ones we'll look into them! We're glad you found the video to be helpful because the website definitely is confusing.

Yeah, it's a wonderful place to paddle. Paddling has a pretty quick learning curve for most, but we'd probably recommend practicing on a smooth pond or lake to get the hang of it before trying to paddle up a river. Just not a pond or lake in Florida (gators).

Yeah, and what really makes it bad is that when I returned I realized that there the trail was clearly marked as the trail to the blue hole. I think the heat was effecting my reading abilities 😂

I have passed by so many times and always wish I stopped in. I really need to plan a stop there soon. But I think just tubing. I would have totally panicked if my paddle board deflated.

Jamie panicked a little bit when we both briefly attempted to paddle down the river on one board. I think we could have done it, but it would have been a slow process and we probably wouldn't have gotten any good footage. It all worked out fine in the end, but we're definitely going to be planning a return trip so Jamie can enjoy the float downstream.

It really is out of this world. No worries about the paddleboard. We were actually a bit surprised they had both lasted as long as they did as rough as we are on them! We both still laugh every time we re-watch that wipeout. I'm sure there will be many more of those to come on our future paddling adventures!

Wow...that is some beautiful scenery! I don't know that it's anything the Mrs and I would partake in but you sure make it tempting. We're not experienced kayakers or boarders (by that I mean we've never done them) and I must admit the gator factor is abit concerning.

It sure is, Gene. We would paddle this river every weekend if we could! The paddle would be fairly easy in a kayak, especially a tandem with two paddlers. That said, you may want to practice a time or two on waters which aren't home to alligators!

Thank you so much for the encouraging feedback. It was a little bit disappointing to lose the paddleboard, but thankfully they aren't too expensive. We'll definitely be ordering another one before our next trip to the springs!

On my face I use ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica Zinc Oxide and 100% Mineral Sunscreen I use Neutrogena Beach Defense everywhere else.

What a gorgeous place! But wow… I can do without all the freaking people!!! I grew up in St Pete and it’s a bummer that I never went out and explored areas like this in Florida! It would have been so great back then, too, cuz I’m sure it was MUCH less inhabited! 🙏

Yeah, we did visit at pretty much the busiest time possible, but paddling through all those tubers was a challenge to say the least. Once we got to the paddler only area though, we were amazed by how few people were on the river. It was wonderful. But I'm sure you're right that much of Florida would have been much more enjoyable back when you lived here.

LOL thanks guys. I have a feeling that if Skylar didn't have me telling him to "slow down" all the time, he would have a LOT more wipeouts 😂 We haven't hit 99 yet, but we hit 97 yesterday, which I think is the hottest it's been in St. Pete since we moved here!

Since you’re not supposed to be in the water, does the staff periodically remove those fallen logs? That would keep people out of the water to protect the wildlife/ecosystem and also prevent people from getting injured from falling and as well as potentially destroying their paddleboards.

What do you guys think of Alys beach, rosemary and the ones in the surrounding area compared to Siesta key beach. Looking for a vacation spot that offers a beautiful beach and walk-able spots. Any recommendations?

Hi Nina! We actually have yet to make it up to the panhandle, although we are hoping to fairly soon. When we do, we'll definitely be interested to see how the beaches up there compare to Siesta and other beaches in our area as well! As far as beautiful walk-able beach around here goes, Treasure Island has a really nice beach path that runs along the beach. But there's not a beach around here that we don't enjoy walking on!

We went to Ichetucknee Springs for the first time in somewhere in the 70's and it was absolutely amazing then and still is today.The crowds can be avoided by going in the winter, there is no shuttle service so it's paddle up and back only, but the river is much more peaceful.

The water is 72 degrees year round.In Oct it can still be pretty hot...meaning the 72 degree water can still feel pretty nice for tubing and swimming. I would think April would also be good to visit, but would probably prefer to paddle vs swim or tube. We were told by staff that visitors can tube year round.

It depends when you visit. Weekends in the spring and summer, are typically packed, and even week days in the summer can be very busy.

Yeah if you aren't willing to deal with all the tubers for the first half of the paddle, you definitely won't want to do what we did on a weekend in the summer. But once you get through them all, it really couldn't be more peaceful.
