For half a century, the Cleveland Browns' name has been synonymous with winning football. "Fifty Years of Memories" takes the viewer through that exact time frame beginning with the formation of the team in 1946 and finishing with the final game in 1996.
**Up until recently, I've been downloading my personal VHS collection. However, the collection is obviously limited. I started a Patreon page to better find and purchase old VHS videos on EBAY and other websites, as well as at garage sales and other locations that might have VHS available, so I can upload them for all to see and share for free. See it here: / tombombadil
Meet the great stars and lasting legends Otto Graham, Marion Motley, Dante Lavelli, Jim Brown, Brian Sipe, Bernie Kosar and most importantly, the man the team was named for: Paul Brown.
Each of the distinct eras is examined: the domination of the All-America Conference in the 1940s, the team's immediate success in entering the NFL in 1950 and the carbon copy domination of the older league in the early 1950s. Not ignored is the lull created by the retirement of Graham in 1955 which led to the Jim Brown era which began in 1957. Paul Brown's firing, Blanton Collier's hiring, the pinnacle of the 1964 championship game and subsequent championship appearances in 1965, 1968, and 1969 are also covered. The modern era includes "The Drive," The Fumble," and finally, the Browns' last playoff appearance in 1995.

I’ll never forget Jim Brown trying to make up his mind if he wanted to continue to play football or become an actor. Then Art Modell says if he doesn’t come to training camp I’m fining him 100 bucks a day. Even then I thought Art you got to be an idiot! You just made up his mind for him and that’s exactly what happened. When I heard he retired I cried. I was a nine year old boy.

Sorry about your team . I live in Maryland and we lost the Baltimore Colts in 1983 . Yes I feel the same way as the people in Cleveland about their team . Loosing the Colts ripped my heart out . @@jamesswigert5666 I think the 1987 AFC Championship Game had a numerous set of circumstances attached to it: a Browns comeback from down 21-3, Byner having an amazing game which led the comeback, the Broncos retaking the lead, and then the Byner fumble. It would've been interesting to see what would've happened if the Browns tied the score again (the Broncos defense was worn out and sucking wind). I'd say that the Browns were the better team in the first two conference title games, but Elway was the deciding factor: the Browns couldn't stop him when they had to, so, if the score was tied 38-38, would the Browns stop Elway?

Otto Graham and Jim Brown are the only two players in pro football history to accomplish all of the following during their career: (1) Play in every game and lead their team to a winning record in each and every season of their career. (2) Average the equivilant of 1 TD per scheduled game ( Rush TD = 1 TD / TDP or TDR = 1/2 TD ) for their entire career. (3) Finish their career with a career average over 8.0 pass Y/A at QB or over 5.0 rush Y/A at RB. These accomplishments put them both head & shoulders above all other players in pro football history. In case you are wondering, Tom Brady failed to match any of the 3 feats and not even in his 1st 10 seasons.

The Chiefs just ended theirs (50 years) the Eagles ended theirs (57 years) baseball's Chicago Cubs ended theirs (108 years) & hockey's St Louis Blues ended their drought after 52 years. Wow, we came from n.j. who supported the Eagles. Moved to Ohio and adopted support for the Cleveland Brown's as another home team. So then we were Eagles and Brown's. And where we live. The players in football are from all the state's of the nation and beyond. The players are traded, from team to team. And Football is a part of our Nation. Some may say Global superstars. Parts of the medical industry and safety equipment too. Alot of pro sports have their contributions to society and a huge part of our great Nation. Definitions in many things. As in anything, the language of the sports industry, but also, flowing over into every other industry. A great deal of work, jobs and many contributions, alot of areas and interests. Physical health and more. Our holidays, Thanksgiving, and Parades. So many things come to mind to think of football. Many of the sports major contributions to the economy of a state or city. One of the highlights being sportsmanship and what it means. Back in the day, Becoming employees of Dallas Airmotive we couldn't help but also pay attention to the Dallas Cowboys when they are playing. There are days no matter who is playing, we just can't loose so to speak... With our interests and associations. My mom liking dolphins, as the animal, but the Dolphins and so many teams that catch our attention as an all American sport. Players representing states, from so many different states. Recent years have been tough on all. I have no doubt, America will get back up again in the American way with all Americans being represented in pro sports, and sports in general that is a integral part of America. Cheering all states, Cheering America. A pride of Ohio, a Pride of Cleveland. "CLEVELAND BROWN'S. And another Ohio the Cincinatti Bengals. Franchises part of their businesses. America will rebound, it is tough, it is resilient and the economy will be back again. Sportsmanship cannot be lost in the Times, and what it means in the uncertainty of times. What our pro sports stand for. It's a great Nation. We never give up.

It’s nice to see five different decades of the Browns. I just wish that the city wouldn’t have been in dire straits. Art Modell’s agreement to do it, was what put him in debt to begin with. It was so unfortunate! It’s nice to know that the Cleveland Browns came to Hiram for celebration! The city should’ve acted much faster, but Modell should’ve got a new stadium when apparently approached. Also, the city should’ve proactive and not naive about it. I especially fault Mayor Mike White on it. However, Art himself shouldn’t have agreed to put the stadium maintenance in his hands. Even his wife, Pat, said that. I also fault Mayor Ralph Perk for not having the money. Yes, Art had too much desire to help and ego to go with it!

The NFL should've never EVER allowed this to happen as it did. That move should've been stopped, blocked...something could've been thought up. Maybe Modell could've been given a new franchise in Baltimore the following year and new ownership could've been found for the Browns for 1996 and onward. If they were hell bent on allowing him to take the team and move then the NFL should've absolutely had an expansion Browns franchise in place for 1996. They should've reassured the fans of Cleveland you will have the Browns next year...you won't have to wait three seasons. It would be an expansion roster playing in Cleveland Stadium. They shouldn't of had to wait 3 years

I was a fan of the Browns when I was a kid. I'm sorry--Frank Minifield is wrong, the '91 Redskins would have torn them apart.

Yeah, Frank is nuts if he thinks they’d have one any of those. The one year I think he would have won it all is the Red Right 88 year.

Best head coach of Cleveland Browns Marty Schottenheimer from 1984 through 1988 before Bill Belichick became worse head coach of the Cleveland Browns decline in the early 90s 1991 through 1993 era

Sorry, but Sipe and Kosar can't be in the same sentence as the other 4. Frank Ryan was a better QB & more historically significant than either of them.
