On the official channel of the Odesa Film Studio (@OdesaFilmStudio) the premiere of Oles Yanchuk’s film “The Iron Hundred” took place. The film is based on the book “In the Whirlpool of Struggle” by Yuri Borets, who lives in Australia. After watching “The Unconquered” (directed by Oles Yanchuk), Yuri suggested that the director stage the film based on his own memories and took over the financing of the film. This is how the first Ukrainian-Australian co-production appeared. On July 23, 2004, with the assistance of the regional society "Prosvita", the film was first presented in the Lviv cinema "Lvov". The film was also presented on August 24, 2004 at the Zhovten cinema in Kiev.
The events in The Iron Hundred take place in Zakerzonie, a territory that was originally home to millions of Ukrainians, against the backdrop of World War II and the post-war period, in particular during Operation Vistula.
In the whirlpool of these tragic events, a hundred fighters of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, led by Mikhail Duda - Gromenko, found themselves... It is clear that the forces were unequal, and the strength of spirit, faith in the final victory, moved the unbending "Iron Hundred", the remnants of which in 1947 raided West, to Bavaria, which was then controlled by the American military administration. The heroes of the film, based on real facts, are young Ukrainians who consciously joined the ranks of the UPA. The authors of the film did not set themselves the goal of showing only the heroism of those times.
