You should do some testing of how they actually work with larger pdfs, since that's the reason they are so unpopular with students. It used to be that the older generations of i ink tablet simply could not handle them, or where lacking the most simple functions, like just adding an empty page in the middle for more Note taking space

Many thanks for all your work.After couple months I bought Boox Air 2 Plus and for time being I'm happy as hell. I have standard pen + Samsung + Staedtler Noris and now I plan to get Noris Jumbo and LAMY and all my set will be complete. After 2 months I can't imagine going back to paper notes. Thank you so much for the review, it was very comprehensive and helped me a lot to narrow down the list of tablets to buy! Since I want a versatile tablet to use for journaling, reading and sketching it does seem like a BOOX tablet is the way to go. However it is difficult for me to decide on the size and I was wondering if you can help me. I do handwritten notes but I prefer to type on a virtual keyboard for journaling/writing and I am not really sure if there would be enough space on an A5 screen for a comfortable use of keyboard and seeing a good portion of the text at the same time. On the other hand I saw in one of the reviews that there was an issue with the position of the keys in the virtual keyboard on the LUMI 2 (one on top of the other rather than staggered) so not sure if that the overall experience would be better. What do you think? Is any of these devices BOOX Air Plus 2 or LUMI 2 really meant for virtual keyboard typing?

Heya, great video! So I'm an actor and need to do a lot of script annotation - a lot of flicking through pages and notes so my pages are normally riddled with words. I'm leaning more towards bigger tablets because I will be walking around the space with the script in hand so to speak but the prices of the bigger tablets are hefty. Was hoping you could give your opinion on which of the larger ones are at least a bit more affordable. I'd appreciate any input :)

Thanks for the breakdown, this was really helpful. Alas, the cheapest one of these bad boys I could find in my country costs as much as my rent. I have way too many paper notebooks, and with the 4 different digital note-keeping methods I cannot pair down in any way, I was at least hoping to do away with paper for good. The supernote really does seem perfect, but I just can't justify the expense without stewing about it for a good few months.

Thanks for your review. I hand write notes sometimes for as many as 6 hours at a time. I flip thru pages to highlight my notes after leaving handwritten stars and question people using my highlighted (starred) comments. I am confused about whether the Supernote or the Remarkable with subscription would be the best for me. At the end of the day, I scan my notes into a computer as a pdf. Drawings would not happen. It might be useful to download a pdf document and mark it while taking notes. I would not use the device as a kindle substitute. any suggestions.

Hi, thanks for such a great video! Quick question: do any of the devices you covered in the video struggle with files being importing onto them? Say if I want to put epub files or pdfs onto an e-reader to read and annotate, are there any limitations or difficulties in that process? FYI I’m an avid reader/writer currently working as a journalist and would like to get into the e-reader game.

I've enjoyed your reviews, as I'm considering getting a device like this. I have about 5 or 6 notebooks and it sometimes takes time to find specific notes. One concern I have that I wonder if you could speak to is, when I write I rest my hand on the paper or notebook. I find it very difficult to write "whiteboard style" with my hand not touching. Do any (or perhaps all) of these devices allow for that, or would I have to adapt my style to not allow my hand to rest on it as I write? Thank you so much.

I'm having a tough time deciding which to purchase. I am not a writer or artist. I use a ridiculous amount of paper doing take-off's for construction projects and I'm wondering if any of these would be a good alternative. I'm not always at the office where I keep my work-ups and often have to change something on them while I'm out. I've tried out using a rocketbook so I can see it as a pdf but then I can't edit it. My work-ups can be anywhere from 1-15 pages depending on the project. Which would you recommend?

Thanks for the video. As a student, I'm looking for a device to meet my needs, including reading academic papers & textbooks. I have Note Air 2 in my mind since I major in CS and I love more features. I'm wondering how convenient 10'' devices are for moving in a page, for example when reading an academic paper?

Hiya, boox devices certainly seem the way to go for you. You might be interested in a max lumi if you are needing academic reading. You'll get away with the NA2 but I think you'll be doing a lot of swiping around as you say!

@@KitBetts-Masters same question as Z Z for me, also A CS student, and I personally hate writing on my iPad and I've been thinking of keeping my iPad for PDFs, and using an e-ink tablet solely for writing. I was looking at something that was as close to a standard sheet of paper (printer paper) in size. Would the Quaderno A4 be the move for me? Thanks for the video, its of great help!

@@Mutex_Lock Hiya, I haven't used the quaderno yet, they weren't Jen to send one as they don't sell in Europe! But I would guess it would fit the bill for what you want just fine. The boox note air 2 has a really clever article mode in the ereader, which gets around the difficulty scrolling around in the page. See my 7 things I love about the note air 2 plus video for a demo.

Hey! Love your channel! I will probably go for the Onyx Boox Tab X when I finally get my budget straight. I am a professional musician which means I mainly need pdfs (+some feel of the pen for spontaneous notes) but what often comes up at the end of a rehearsal is the date of the Next rehearsal. The presence of calendar is a must if you want to stay in focus and not reach for the damned attention beggars called smartphones. The Supernote has these and it seems you are quite fond of it, which makes me really hope for a bigger Supernote because large size is a necessity (music scores are often published in formats bigger than A4 precisely because they are easier to read). As I am in no rush with the investement, do you (or anybody else know(s) if Supernote is planning on making a bigger device? All the best to you and hope to see some more useful insights on your channel! P.S There is also a factor of having access to apps like nkoda, which is basically an e-reader app but with music scores.

Great and very useful review I am still in my trial period with RM2 which is okay but Connect forever seems expensive Plus I am not totally happy with how it copes with PDF docs The Super note is harder to source and pricing is unclear in UK as it has to be shipped from France In your view how does Note Air 2 Plus cope with PDF docs and indeed docs in Word Thanks Danny

Note Air 2 works very well with pdf and word for me. But so does SN. RM connect via a bummer, but you could justify the cost I think. Probably want the big size, and as you'll want apps, I think max lumi might be your choice!

If it's only a tiny percentage of the screen being updated, will it refresh faster? I'd likely use altrady as quantower absolutely kills battery life on my laptop.

In the end, I chose the Boox Note 5. I have tried Remarkable, supernote, boox not air, etc. I find it a huge benefit to have a device with running android OS and connect to the Google Play Store. For example, I installed Clipt and now I can copy text from my mac and paste it into my Boox notes! Basically you have other things you need when you use android. Anyway, my suggestion is Boox Note 5

Hi, so I am getting ready to go back to school. I want a basic tablet for notes. I don’t need apps or anything. I do want to be able to attach to a computer and transfer notes there or perhaps email to another student if they are out one day. I’m torn between Remarkable 2 and the onyx boox.

The Bigme B1 Max+ color seems to be something that stands apart from the rest of the Chinese e-ink devices. Might be worth reviewing.

It's like it stepped from behind the pack right up to the front of the pack with the 10.3 inch color e-ink device that has much more storage and really rich color. Can take a little tweaking, but it's a 10.3 inch screen with as good or maybe slightly better color than the Nova air C. You'll do a more thorough review than I could.

@@KitBetts-Masters yes 👌🏽 that's right, i have ordered the supernote ax5. Can't wait to use it. I must admit that thanks to your very detailed analyzes I made my decision to buy this e-ink tablet. I take so many notes every day that my desk is currently filled with loose sheets. I've had a Remarkable 2 in the past but.…. the title options and details in terms of ease and use are "in my opinion" much better on the Supernote. The customer service is also up to my expectations! Thank you for also convincing me of the effectiveness of "Heart of Metal Series Pen" I took it in white like yours 😊. When comparing the Boox Max Lumi 2 to my iPad Air 2 I noticed the iPad did a better job of preserving the format of Epubs. This is more of an iOS vs android issue. I do wish Apple would come out with an e-ink tablet. The battery is amazing.

Apple bought the Mirasol factory from Qualcomm so they actually have something as cool as eInk which is also very fast and capable of displaying color. Sadly that's probably never going to happen since those devices are not mainstream enough.

I've watched a lot of videos about note taking e-ink tablets in the last few days since I discovered this whole thing and decided I need one. I was planning on getting Nova Air 2 but when I saw you folding a piece of paper I did that too and realised how big of a mistake I was about to make. I want something not too big to read comfortably but big enough to make notes while working and learning, and a6 would be way too small. I think A5 so Note Air 2 Plus is the sweet spot for me with the size and all the android functionality. Damn it's expensive tho... I wonder if I can get this thing working with chatGPT. Anyways, thank you for all your advise!

Hiya, yeah, it is certainly a sweet spot for size vs price. It is also great for having any android apps available, so if you can access chat GPT on an android, you'll be able to on the NA2!

What does a practical workflow integrated with a laptop for work, look like? Especially since all big corporations require a great deal of privacy when taking work notes.

Hiya, interesting point! My suggestion would be to get in contact with the customer teams before you buy, and check how the files are stored and shared with the cloud etc. Quirklogic infact started from the point of helping companies keep their meeting notes secure! In any case, they'll all allow pin protection on the device so it's probably more secure than paper!

Hi, please answer: Which one is better students, example if I’m reading a PDF and making annotations full screen (not split screen)and constantly swapping to notes app, example when you do that in IPad, if you are In GoodNotes 5, you just tap another tab to change. Or you can use the 4 finger gesture to swapping from one app to another . How do you do that in a E Ink tablet ? Than you

Hello, not sure they all have that gesture, but it sounds like you want to look at the max lumi or the Papyr. As it sounds like you want the full A4 PDF annotation experience for your studies. Thanks for the comment!

Feeling wise is supernote, for writing feel at least. Drawing nicer on the Boox. Lag, there is very little difference.

Which of the devices supports the old "insert space" function from OneNote? I often find I want to add to a section but using the lasso tool is not efficient. The ability to search notes is also important and I haven't seen any reviews cover that.

Interesting you say that e-inks are more expensive than an android or apple table. In Australia at least a remarkable with case and pen is around $800. A similar size tablet is between $1000 - $1200 depending on what you buy.

Difficult choice, the light and choices of reader make boox best for that, and the latest update makes the boox closer for writing to the supernote, but the pens are brilliant on the supernote!

I am planning on going to uni next year and am looking for a note taking and working book alternative, I am planning to do Mathematics and it would usually require and note/work book to write in. I am not sure if E-ink is a good solution or not. Is the note taking and wiring organisable, ie could I have folders of pages etc. And do any have good maths recognition, if yes which is best? also not sure about A5 being large enough. Just curious for any thoughts.

Hiya, yes you can have folders in most. Best maths recognition is the Kobo Elipsa in fact. But you could use a third party maths app on any device with Google play.

Yes both can do it offline, although you need to download the packages etc to get started! I think they are about equal in terms of accuracy, I might be tempted by the SN if it was for longer pieces of writing because of the background recognition.

Do any of them allow you to connect a keyboard - either corded or bluetooth??? I've found that converting handwriting - even nice, clean, crisp block characters - come out a complete mess requiring re-typing the entire composition all over again later. I'd rather just be able to plug in a keyboard and type away with none of the distractions (or bright lights) of full on tablets. I've got a reMarkable II and it's a pretty good device, very easy to write on... until you go to convert and the OCR turns all of that work into so much trash that has to be completely re-written from the start.

hello 🙂 i want to ask You for an opinion about which device would You recommend to learn foreign language and partialy for work meetings? And second thing, how box or supernote are handeling with writing recognition in different languages than English? Kind regards Michael.

Hello, I'll be honest and say I haven't had experience with languages other than English, I'll have a research and try and include it in a future video. For learning languages, my guess is you'd want one with speaker and mic, to use something like duo lingo, so your choice is clear, the boox range, probably the note air 2 as it'll be perfect in meetings too!

I know it's silly, but When writing on the tablet, I miss being able to paginate super fast and find what I need. On digital I feel trapped, I have to open the search pane, enter a keyword to search, and press search. So I guess my question is, any of them are brilliant when it comes to finding what you need versus shuffling paper which is what I do now?

Hiya, something I love is just finding my page by opening the thumbnails view! I always pop a big bold title on pages so I can see at a glance what I have on each page. I find it allows that sort of page memory that you get with notebooks where you just kinda know where you wrote that thing down! But then you can use the table of contents, keywords or tags function, in some of the devices! Cheers.

I am looking for a device which is better in note taking and if I want to refer my older notes with some tag OR let's say I want to find action items marked in different pages. Please suggest - I am inclined towards buying remarkable 2 because of no distractions and nice built but unsure if I can actually organize my text and actions items for smart and efficient work.

I am mainly (plan) using the eink tablet for my note taking (work and study) as well as trying to reduce the paper notebooks (1 for work, 1 for personal, 1 for journal, 1 for scratching and a lot of papers/sticky notes). Still thinking about Boox as my book ecosystem is Kindle and Boox support that nicely (and a dozens of Audible books). Still undecided yet - mainly due to price and availability (Boox NA2 again is out of stock here). I might go smaller like what you suggested and get Nova Air (or Nova Air C) to try out the eink tablet. Hopefully your review on Kobo would give me the idea of which 1 I should get: 1. Kobo Elipsa 2. Boox Nova Air 3. Boox Nova Air C 4. Boox Note Air 2 5. More papers and stick notes

If you were a university student, which would you recommend for lecture notes, studying/revising and having access to resources on Google drive? I’ve watched your last couple of videos on eink tablets and they’ve been very helpful but I’m still a bit stuck! Thanks!

It's ok, but there's no front light. You can read PDFs and a range of different file formats and annotate on them. And your annotations can go into a digest which is a nice feature. There's a kindle app, it is quite an old version of the kindle app, works just fine though. :-)

How dare they charge 500 times the cost of an A4 pad and paper for somet with no refresh rate or colour! They will all go pop if they are not careful with those prices!

Well, it is unlimited paper. But yeah, I get your point, these devices are way too expensive. I went to this video thinking "I'll just chose the cheapest useable one", but even the cheapest one is too expensive.

@@loneranger4282 because the screens cost money to produce, and they sell in small volumes, so each individual screen is expensive, since they're not produced in bulk. The only way that changes is if they sell well, and get produced in larger volume.

Thanks for the video. I had a DPT-RP1 for reading papers. However, I was tortured by its high reflectivity, which should be inherent in all e-ink screens. I could not use it under bright sunlight, classroom light or even desk lamp. Two years ago I sold it and bought a Book Lumi MAX, expecting its backlight to be a game changer but only got disappointed. In your video, I think the devices are not getting better in terms of this annoying problem.🥲
