@@OpinionatedChicken59 There are some repetitive moments but there’s a lot more to the story than you think. If you haven’t I recommend watching Jordan’s videos from part 1. He really gets into detail about the story and what’s going on.

I mean to be fair that is the whole pitch of the show. To become a Pokémon master, explore new regions, and discover new Pokémon. The parts that make the show so good is that it actually shows failure and defeat besides the good guy winning all the time. You get to meet all kinds of new characters and see a ton of character development. I understand how team rocket can get kinda annoying sometimes but that’s 90s cartoons for ya. gotta have some type of villain that always gets there asses kicked lol. I do gotta admit I feel like nostalgia is what keeps a lot of people attached to the show and games.

@@televisionmaster1690 the comment I made above is about Jordan’s series reviewing ash’s journey. THAT is a masterpiece. For the show itself, of course it has its flaws and repetitiveness but it still overall great. I do agree that the show should have went a different direction years ago but they made it work apparently . 26 years later and people are still hooked on it. Who knows maybe introducing a new protagonist will give the show the fresh start it needs.

@@KalebFPS Works as a western kids cartoon esque but for what it really is which is a story to follow, it falls flat in a lot more ways than you think. The repetitiveness isn't there as a lesson or for a greater meaning but just there for tedium and to pad out the pacing of a story that shouldn't even be that long in the first place. Saying that it's still a "great" show is speaking of it way too highly tbh. Nostalgia is honestly what carried the show and kept it from being universally loathed. It's not offensive like say Velma. It's just bland, tedious and too generic at least in my opinion.

The whole idea of the People of the Water is a really interesting one that felt like it needed more than being a background element of one movie. I remember coming home from school every day back in the mid 2000’s and watching Static Shock, Pokemon, YuGiOH, and Jackie Chan. Watching this series has filled me with so much nostalgia and emotion that I haven’t felt in a long time. I’ve looked through your many videos and holy shit dude my brain came flooding back with memories! I loved Pokémon. I still do. My brother and I got Blue/Red, Gold/Silver, and Sapphire/Ruby. We watched the anime up until the end of this season. We didn’t get the new console as preteens and fell off during gen 4 and 5, but when we got jobs we bought gen 6 and 7. I’m glad you have this series going because it’s literally an hour and a half full of dopamine and you explain everything so clearly in all the categories you have. It was a lot of fun and soon hopefully I'm going to go back and relive Sapphire again. The anime was also something I watched a lot, but it was around the time the first season of Diamond and Pearl already started. The Advance Battle theme was an absolute BANGER Also, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew was a fantastic! One of my favorite movies when I was little.

So this is the season where I dropped out of the series as a Kid. My favorite character was Misty, and since I wasn't able to watch every single episode since i came onto the series a little late and had to rely on inconsistent re-runs the only real plot thread I was able to follow and care about was the relationship of Ash and Misty. I saw the first episode and was able to see how it started, and I watched the second Movie and was able to see allot of the ship, so I just kinda assumed the two would get together and I really enjoyed finding hints of that in the series while watching whatever random thing Ash was doing at the time. Sometimes he had 6 or 7 badges, sometimes he was getting his 3rd, sometimes badges weren't even mentioned but he has a new pokemon I've never seen before! None of that story mattered, all I cared about was how Ash interacted with his pokemon and his friends. Then Ash dumped his old pokemon off and left my favorite friend behind to go on a new adventure, so I just kind of lost interest after Johto. However watching this video kind of makes me sad I did. I think if the younger me had pushed through the changes I think I would have enjoyed this season allot as a kid and got really invested in Ash's new team. I would have loved Ash's Treeko as a kid, from the clips you showed he looked aggressive! But it is what it is. I kept playing the games for a bit after this, but around the time Gen 4 released I was going into middle school and kids around me kind of had the mindset that pokemon was only for little kids, so I kind of just fell out of the series all together due to peer pressure. I completely missed Gen 4 and 5. Then when Gen 6 came out I had just graduated from highschool and had a new group of friends who either never gave into that pier pressure back in the day or just didn't go through it talking about how much fun they where having. It was then that I started really learning about strategies and more competitive game mechanics that I never picked up on as a kid, you know, cause I was a kid. So I picked the series back up with Gen 6 and have been playing the games ever since. So with that being said, I'm especially excited for your next couple videos in this series. I played the Gen 4 remakes that came out a little while back so I have an understanding of what happens in gen 4 now, but I still don't know much at all about Gen 5 other than I think maybe PETA is the bad guy, or something like that. And thats as far as the games go, by this point I was so far detached from the anime I don't know If I've ever even seen footage of the Gen 5 anime. Like I know I've at least seen Dawn and her Piplup before, so I know i've at least seen a few scenes from Gen 4, but I don't know a THING about 5. I'm very excited for you to teach me a thing or 20!

I have never realized that the characters had development. I remember Pokémon as a bunch of stand alone episodes that sometimes had plot development. And sometimes suddenly different Pokémon were on the team. And suddenly we had Misty and May. I think that what makes different/stands out about Ash in gen 3 compared to the previous two is that in the first one he was a complete rookie and sometimes trainer that needed to learn how to treat his pokemon, in the second one he's still a rookie but one that at least knows the basics of being a pokemon trainer and in gen 3 he kinda has as role as a mentor to May. A trainer that, like Ash in the previous seasons, starts her journey knowing pretty much nothing about pokemon and that ends up having a rivalry with someone that seems to be more competent than her but that ends up respecting her. In a way, May´s journey parallels Ash's original journey and althought sometimes can end up unnoticed, Ash is the one giving her advice about how to be a trainer (while still having moments where he needs to grow as a trainer). This was a pretty cool video. Really looking forward to watch part 4.

3rd Gen Pokemon was always my favorite. It was just where I was at the perfect age to really appreciate it. The anime, the games, and especially the movies from this era are all really special to me.

I honestly can't wait for the Diamond and Pearl video. The labor day marathon early in that era is when I started watching weekly as a kid, and that era in general with everything happening on the DS is when I got to actually get into the series instead of watching from afar as a kid, with things like the aforementioned anime, the first two mystery dungeons, the second ranger game, and of course Platinum.

I find it very fitting that this Lucario is voiced by Sean Schmell who would voice Lucario in Sm4sh and Ultimate but not Brawl instead being voiced by Bill Rogers, Brock’s second voice. Then when Ash finally gets a Lucario all his own at the end in Journeys, it’s Bill who voices it instead of Sean. It’s like there was this inside joke about who was the better Lucario between the two of them or something.

I loved May and the introduction of contests! Max was also funny, the way he bickered with his sister was realistic to me and I enjoyed watching them (even if some fans find him annoying). May and Drew's rivalry in the Contest circuit was a great thorough-line while Ash was getting his gym badges. And Harley is iconic as a rival too, he's so petty towards a literal ten year old when he really doesn't need to be... Overall I really like this series for the new things it was doing, giving the female companion more of a story arc and journey alongside Ash.

Gen 3 will always be the most nostalgic for me. Leaf Green was the first Pokemon game I bought, and Ruby was the first that i completed. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew to this date is one of my favorite Pokemon movies too. Not to mention, the Advance Battle theme is an absolute bop.

I've been waiting for this! I love your video series recapping the anime and generations. Hoenn is where I began to 'grow-out' of Pokemon as a kid becoming a teenager in the mid-2000's. So I'll be super interested to see how the anime continues Ash's journey after Gen 3. Thanks for all your hard work making these videos! It's a wealth of knowledge!

Gen 3 was a big jumping off point for a lot of people. Everything was in decline in sales and popularity around that time. I came in during gen 4 and thats when a good chunk of people around my age came in too.

I still remember how haunting the episode with kyogre and groudon was. It kinda reminds me of the beach episode of the first season where tentacruel took over meowth.

I find it neat that Ash actually swaps out his team because it actually feels like how people play Pokemon after a few years. Never got tool deep into this series apart from the odd episode or movie, but if I had I might have been able to learn more about playing well in a gentler way instead of having the Striaton gym pounding me into the ground. While writing this comment, the anime finally clicked for me. It's supposed to be an account of one kid's individual journey that many others could compare their own experiences to.

The Advanced series of Pokemon was actually a series I missed out on due to my "pokemon eeww" phase I went through due to bullying. It took me a while to get back to it, and while I might not have enjoyed it as much as the next series, I'm still glad I watched it. Destiny Deoxys and Jirachi Wishmaker are very memorable to me. I was also a really big fan of the whole thing going on between May and Drew. Love it. Anyway, thanks again for the video, and I am very much looking forward to the next part. It had one of my favorite rivalry arcs.
