In this video, an Indian doctor shares his personal experience of obtaining a visa and passport for his child, who was born in the UK while both parents were on tier 2 visa.
The video covers the following steps:
Application for birth registration of children eligible for Indian nationality
Application for Indian passport
Application for UK BRP (Biometric Residence Permit)
Naturalisation application as a British citizen

You can submit the Indian passport application at the same time as the birth registration application.
BRP is mandatory if you have any plans to travel outside the UK.
You need to submit two references for the Indian address for passport application.
India does not allow dual citizenship so surrendering the Indian passport is mandatory after obtaining another citizenship.
OCI card allows visa free multi entry to india with no restriction of length of stay, except that you cannot own agricultural land, vote in election, or hold public office or government jobs.

The address: just say living there for more than 3 years.My baby had a BRP and Indian passport so it was straightforward.

Your child will need Indian passport to enter India so visa is not required then. But visa(BRP) is needed to return to the UK.

Hello Suman, I have a query about a baby traveling to India from the UK. Currently, my wife and I are on a skilled worker visa, can we travel with the baby with a Just Indian passport without UK BRP and apply for BRP from outside the UK? or is it mandatory to have BRP to go to India from the UK.

You can leave the UK without BRP. But will need BRP to re-enter the UK.

If naturalisation is through ILR route then it's a problem . If it is through MN1 form then should be fine.

Your baby won't get an ILR after birth but will need a dependant visa. Once the parents get ILR after 5yrs residence, baby will be eligible for British citizenship

The forms are usually PDF format so you can insert scanned signatures. Alternatively your husband can complete the online application from India and send you the completed scanned forms. Please double check if his original passport needs to be produced at VFS or not.That could be a problem.

5 years is not possible for a newborn. I just provided the current address where she was born. Birth certificate is the proof of parental responsibility.

Hi, I came in Uk in 2022 as student with my husband after I give birth to baby in 2023 on student visa and didn’t apply for baby Indian passport and when my student visa got expired I got skilled worker visa and just applied for husband as dependent but not the baby as I didn’t applied for for her passport and me and my husband just switched to skilled worker visa but not the baby because of her passport. I want to just confirm after completing 5 years on skilled worker visa me and husband got ILR and after that can I just apply directly baby ILR or I have to make her passport?

Your baby will be eligible for British citizenship and passport as soon as you get your ILR. But it's better to get a passport and BRP till then for travel and using the NHS.

Daughter already is getting vaccination and immunisation all the things free I have just register her with birth certificate to the gp. @@SgorayaSgoraya Registration with GP is not a problem. However if your children needs hospital admission then they will ask for BRP. BRP is the only document that makes your child a legal resident in the UK.

It took me approx 2.5 months after naturalisation application. British passport took another 2 weeks.No priority service available for naturalisation.Not sure about passport.

More than 180 days absence from the UK in 12 months will affect ILR. Also if your baby will be born outside UK, then they wont get british citizenship directly when you get ILR.

So if I am staying less than 180 days is that ok ..it won't effect the ILR in future.. Now I am confused am I taken a wrong decision to go back to India for the delivery...if my newborn won't get ILR later(eventhough staying less than 180 days)... Not for PR. They can apply for citizenship after your ILR. So essentially they will get a British passport before you do

She can apply directly for a British passport if you had ILR at the time of her birth.otherwise she has to apply for naturalisation.once it is done, she will be recognised as a British citizen. Then she can get a British passport.

Hi i am pregnant now and i am going to deliver my baby in the month of April 2024. And also i am planning to apply for PSW for me and my husband in the month of March. So i will be in PSW visa by the time i give birth to baby. And planning to take my baby India and leave with my parents then come back to UK without child. 1. Approx 6-8 weeks including your time to prepare for the application and getting appointments. Apply for Indian birth registration and passport (Tatkal) at the same appointment. 2. No need for a dependant visa/brp if the baby is not coming to the UK.

For Indian passport/OCI, please take the photo in one of the Timpson/max spielmann shops.They will do the exact size needed for Indian passport .Thumb impression- we did at home using a stamp pad.
