I believe what made the stream decline was the novelty wearing off, most people only played the first gen, and also everyone jumped the gun on the external lore right from the get go instead of it evolving naturally like the first time. I remember that right on the first day of Crystal, people were already forcing lore onto their first Pokemons and encounters

@@DarkAlice It's essentially both. The hive mind couldn't just throw it away (like just about every other item they had), so it was always in the inventory. @@Bryan-ob9if Would they be able to even finish the game without democracy, though? Like, they need to go through Safari Zone for Surf and Strength. The most optimal path to Surf eats more than half of steps you get, and Anarchy is not optimal in any form or shape.

@Bryan-ob9if 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dukstless I don't think it would have been possible without democracy, but only because of the cost to enter. If they had unlimited tries I think they'd eventually make it. It'd take a CRAZY long time, though haha. I'm a huge fan of anarchy, but i feel like the only acceptable use of democracy was the safari zone. I feel like most people agreed too, since the video said it was the longest run of democracy in the game.
@Dukstless
@Dukstless 4 жыл бұрын
@@Bryan-ob9if If they were playing Blue or Yellow, they could do it with sheer determination, yes. However in Red, they would probably run out of money. You see, there are only three infinite ways to earn money in G1: the League (if you can get here you have dealt with Safari Zone already), Pay Day (only as a TM since Meowth is exclusive to Blue) and Game Corner (yeah no). They added failsafe in Yellow where if you have no money you can force the guy to let you in with only one Ball. Easy to get thrown out by throwing it, but at least it's a possibility of actually making it.

I ran into a Red cosplayer during my first time attending Sakura-Con years ago, and I recalled the cosplayer holding a sign saying, "Would you like to talk about our Lord and Savior, Lord Helix?" It was that moment I went to learn about the Twitch Plays Pokemon lore, with the persistent urge to be taught about it through my sister and that one cosplayer alone. So watching your videos discussing about Twitch Plays Pokemon really helped me come to understand why Omanyte was so loved worshipped at the time.

Some things to mention: during this time a second stream started called twitch plays pokemon blue. Its users fluctuated between 400-1000 so it was much more managable so finished the whole game in anarchy. For Catching Zapdos I was there and it was glorious, we all spammed the perfect inputs at the perfect time, it was systematic in its chaos. Blood sunday was hilarious lol Reviving Helix was like magic. During victory road when they first entered you didnt mention it but we actually solved the first boulder puzzle in anarchy and I was the group leader directing people what to spam at what time(to compensate accurately for the delay). This was an effective method of using anarchy that was developed initially by a guy named Zeke that we then impeached with the "impeach Zeke" movement. ATV beating Dragonite was dramatic, hilarious and exhilerating like much of TPP. I distinctly remember the art that came from that being awesome. Now the people who were kids when red/blue first came out such as myself were university kids at this time and as the end drew near it was the time we were supposed to be writing essays and studying, and I just remember thinking I have to be there when it happens no matter how much it fucks with my marks even though I really tried to prevent that. The end happened, it was glorious, and we celebrated in the TPP reddit. Also after crystal we did the other generations and in the first game with DS touch screen commands we beat the game with 100% anarchy while (get this) a flareon was one of our mains. Tons of elaborate lore was written to explain it. Crazy fun times, and the democracy people were grumpy about it lol Edit: another thing worth mentioning is that during this time a guy wrote a song about TPP that was really good.

God every year or so I have to watch these again. It was fun being there when it happened, but having it recounted like this is amazing.

I think the whole flareon situation is like if I wrote an essay by punching a keyboard and then got angry at the keyboard for getting a bad grade on it. #Flareondidnothingwrong

I kind of agree it was mostly our fault for the deaths of Abby and jay Leno but Flareon was the reason we went to the pc in the first place so idk Praise helix

I was there for the red run. I didn't even have a twitch account back then. It was the first stream I ever watched on twitch and I started it sometime before mount moon. Because I didn't have an account j couldn't input (or later get the badge) but I was glued to the stream in-between classes. I remember most of these moments with perfect clarity.

“lives deep in the bones of its anchient followers to this day.” ah, yes. i remember freshman year. every tuesday, each peron in class took a turn doing short reports on current events. i was ectatic to bring up tpp, as the first one in class volunteering to go, not even a week into the game, as far as i remember. even the “eww, gamers” people were blown away by the multiplayer being in the 60-thousands at the time. ahh, great memories. i still have some of the fanart bookmarked with the rest of my nostalgia folder. :)

Great trip down memory lane. I remember joining shortly before the ledge, and stuck around until the Helix had been struck down. Ended up falling out as Hoenn began. I feel bad about not sticking around, but at the same time, I'd have a hard time staying involved for half a decade
