This is the smartest thing I've ever heard about raising and training horses... this is how all horses should be treated. Not imprisoned. They _are_ herd animals so allowing them to grow up before training just makes so much sense. 👀 narrator said Icelandic pony 🤬 Seriously tho... Sucks for horses sold to other countries, to grow up like free and awesome with your family, then sold into slavery, never to see your home again. 😢

".......sold into slavery.....": After having kept Iceys for about 50 years I maintain that these horses are the ones which are kept best of all the other equines in Germany. And often they can work (equestrian sport) until they are about 20 years or more whereas the average age of the other breeds (getting useless) are 8 years only! ---- Some of the Icelandic horses when exported to Germany are often suffering from "sweet itch" (= eczema) in summer (German: Sommerekzem), and the owners have to bring relieve to them by special rugs, by special (expensive) food and rubbing an expensive ointment into the sick parts of the skin. Since about half a century there are enough German breeders with enough Icelandic stallions and mares to produce enough foals/horses for the German market. So export from Iceland to the continent is no longer necessary since many many years!!!

I wonder how they are once they leave Iceland. They're so use to Iceland but then suddenly taken and shipped to foreign land has to be emotional for the horses. I hope the horses are sold to loving families.

I saw already a few times those special icelantic horses on youtube. For exemple: DiscoverTheHorse and Elphick event ponys. The tolt seems to be very smooth, but how is the flying pace? 🤔
@johnj48604 ай бұрын
IcelanDic not Icelantic 🤔 and there is no word for pony in Icelandic they are always called horses. Riding a good Icelandic tolt is like freewheeling downhill on a bicycle. Flying Pace is fast and smooth. If pace is ridden slow it's uncomfortable and known derisorily as Piggy Pace

Do not ever call them ponies

The word "pony" is a British concept that needs to be scrapped. The Caspian is only 10 hands or 11 hands but is called a horse. The craze for larger horses is just stupid and is linked to British snobbery. By the way, if an able bodied person is unable to mount a horse from the ground without a ladder then the horse is too big, it is as simple as that.
