Same here. I have never experienced anything like TLOU parts 1 and 2. It's got everything from vulnerability, innocence, loss of innocence, savagery, mercy, love, hate, heartbreaking loss, and every other aspect of life. The gameplay is also something I don't hear people praise enough. Both games have excellent gameplay that makes you feel like you are trying to survive almost impossible odds, and the way the developers were able to give us just enough supplies to barely make it through some tough situations was genius, especially on hard mode.

TLOU part I is an awesome game. Part II is an awesome way of trashing everything good about the narrative and the character building that was happening, to the point where even some things that were obviously implied in Part I are senselessly retconned in Part II. I've never had any saga that has both one of my top rated games and one of my lowest rating ones.

Yeah it's human for him to massacre people (including others' fathers) for his daughter (and to rob people in the past), but god forbid someone should kill Joel to avenge their father. So entitled and selfish are Joel and Ellie. People are easily biased just because the story follows these awful humans in the first part. Like how people liked Pablo Escobar because the story was made from his perspective in Narcos.

This is one of the best recaps I've ever seen. Holy shit, man, it feels like you managed to pack a 2 hour video into an hour! The pacing was so on point and I really appreciate how you showed various parts of the game that don't get play anywhere else. Most channels who do video game critiques will all show the same clips as one another, so it was nice getting some new visuals in this unique look at the narrative as well as hearing some different dialogue. I'm making this more convoluted than need be but hopefully I'm making some kind of sense, but the main takeaway is I loved watching this one. I reckon I'd better SMASH that subscribe button and MURDER that thumbs up so I can then proceed to see what other content this channel has which is an exciting thought! Not only was Joel's watch the only reminder he had of Sara. The watch was broken when Sara was shot, so it shows the exact time she died. Now this was implied in the game but wasn't confirmed until the PS5 remake. If you watch the original PS3 or the PS4 remastered cutscenes the watch isn't shown to be damaged but it is damaged after Sara is shot in the PS5 remake cutscene.

Dude , seriously… you did a pretty good job … i found it rather interesting on how you described the inner psychological workings of the characters . I think I’m the only person ( and now i share what ive kept to myself because nobody’s ever mentioned it ) to notice when Ellie killed the pregnant woman at the marina and had a touch of shell shock that brought her to her knee’s, and after Tommy Jesse and Ellie were leaving , the camera shows the map and pans out ,looking downwards. A pool of blood slowly starts to form. As the camera pulls back you see the bigger picture. Revealing an ultrasound, and the fetus, intelligently hidden within the shades of red blood from the pregnant woman. That was genius whom ever put that in there . If you’ve never noticed it, go back and check it out. And … you’re welcome. Once again, cheers on the great video. Boom perfect timing! (sorry, been watching a lot of sports docs lately)

- I have such low expectations with adaptations that if they capture even a tiny bit of the emotion of the game I'd be happy. Likely it will strip joel of any masculinity and make him some weird guy that takes his marching orders from the strong females they add in. I heard they got Pedro for the role specifically as they didn't want a strong alpha male for the part, thats just not enouraging to hear as Joel was pretty damn masculine. Also if you want a series where fathers are well represented, The Last Of Us is probably the worst you could’ve picked. A very well done video. So many people (mostly who dislike the second game) don't reflect as to what a character's motivations it thoughts might be... The ending of Part II in particular... So it's great to see it dissected so well. The flashback with the guitar blew my mind at the time... Completely changed the driving force of Ellie's anger, and the reasons she couldn't stop. The time she wasted being mad, and the time stolen after she was ready to forgive... Such a well written game.

Best movie that is actually a game! Amazing story! They did this right. When the main character's daughter died the voice actor that voiced Joel brought in an actual memory to make him cry with the emotion we all felt. I watched the actual movie of how they made the game. After that scene he had to leave to gather himself and everyone in the crew felt whatever he brought out. Beautifully made even to this day in my opinion.

It isn't that Joel died, it's that he was butchered by a disgusting hulking gorilla in a way that traumatized Ellie, and then we're supposed to empathize and play as the Sasquatch that killed him. Also it's incredibly trans-baity that they revealed there's a trans character, and then made Abby such a linebacker even professional body builders are saying her body is unrealistically beefy. Also Lev is barely a step above Kai on the stereotypical trans boy names. TLoU 2 did its fans, its world building, and trans people dirty for no fucking reason.

While Joel's decision did most likely cause a lot of death for the life of one, I understand why he did it. He loved Ellie like his daughter. Ellie just didn't understand this. To her he was just being selfish to save her life, but to him she was someone that he considered family, and he didn't want her to die like his daughter did.

The story of TLOU2 was complex , deep and is a natural consequence to everything that happened in the first game. Joel has been a cynical shell of a man and live to kill and survive since the very first game and that’s why he had a falling out with Tommy and even did what the hunters did occasionally. It’s loving Ellie like a family that turned him around and reawakened his humanity and his love for Ellie is what drove him to kill all those people at the end and lied straight to her face about it. It builds on everything that was started there in a brilliant way. This story is about Ellie and her relationship with Joel but it’s also about every other character in the game. They are all layered and multidimensional. Abby was important because she was Ellie’s foil. Her counterpart in the story. Both Ellie and Abby started the game in different emotional states and motivation and ended it with a different emotional state and motivation. They both change through the game. The gameplay was very important to the story, learning more about Abby and seeing Ellie , Tommy and Joel through her perspective adds a lot of layers to Ellie, Joel and Tommy. Playing as Abby makes you see Ellie, Tommy and Joel as a complete whole and not just from one sided perspective but from both the extremes. You get to know Ellie in every way and from different perspectives. That boss fight with Ellie? It added so much depth to how I see Ellie and the same with the mysterious sniper moment with Tommy and Abby. Every moment in gameplay and every place in the environment was rich and added layers and dimensions to the world, story and characters. Ellie felt extremely guilty the whole game. If you understood anything about Elie in the first game , you should have understood that her greatest wish was for her immunity to save humanity. She felt deep in her heart that Joel was lying to her and they show you how she subtly questions Joel hoping he will tell her the truth by himself but he never did. She went and discovered the truth and it literally destroyed her. Joel took away her greatest desire , she wanted her immunity to mean something. She feels guilty being the only person with immunity and yet it means nothing for humanity( survive’s guilt very realistic) She loves Joel with all her heart but she can’t just easily forgive him for what he did. With time , she was slowly trying to mend what was broken between them and just when she started to forgive him he was taken from her brutally and in front of her eyes. She doesn’t only feel guilt about her immunity now, she feels guilt towards not being able to save Joel and she feels guilt towards the state of their relationship before his death. The PTSD here is damaging. It starts with anger and revenge , with time the guilt cripples her specially after she kills the pregnant lady. Now faced with Abby she feels all the guilt come back. The way she told her “ You don’t have a cure because of me, I’m the one you want” this just shows you how conflicted Ellie is. She feels guilty toward Joel and towards all of humanity including the fireflies. She took away their salvation. A world where these monsters are no longer there. Abby leaves Dina alive thanks to lev. Ellie tries to move on but she still feels so guilty over Joel. She can’t stop hearing his screams. She just wants that feeling to stop. She goes after Abby again and when she’s finally between her hands she understands the feeling of guilt will not stop even if she killed her. Ellie will just add a new guilt to her long list. That boy with Abby Lev , is just another Ellie with another Joel now. Joel used to be a merciless killer , meeting Ellie changed him for the better. Meeting Lev did the same for Abby. Ellie lets her go and that’s the first step in healing. Both Abby and Ellie understand now why Joel did what he did , Abby would do the same for Lev in a heartbeat and Ellie saw Joel and herself in Abby’s and Lev’s relationship. It’s all connected and it all serve the story. It was brilliant and phenomenal storytelling. It’s very rare for us to know our characters so intimately inside out and from different perspectives. Ellie leaving Abby alive was never about Abby herself. It was completely about Ellie and her realization. She didn’t need to see everything from Abby’s pov , all she needed was general knowledge of her circumstances to understand. Playing as Abby was important for us to see Ellie, Tommy and Joel in more complete ways. In ways we usually put in the back of our minds while we focus on how they see themselves instead of who they are as a whole. Abby was not presented in a good light. Even her friends and the people around her called her out for her brutality and her unpleasant personality. She was called out for torturing Joel instead of just killing him even when he saved her life. She was called out for ruining her relationship with Owen because of her aggressiveness but still got in the way of him moving on. She slept with a drunken man who was already with someone else and after she planted hope in his heart she pretended she cared nothing for what happened. She was called out for being Issac’s top killer with no remorse. The only reason she helped Lev and Aya was to make herself feel better because she knows she a scum of a human. That’s what the game presented. It’s only at the very end that she changed after she burned out all her bridges. She changed for real when she went through the village with Lev and Yara … that’s when she understood Joel because she would do anything to save Lev . She would do what Joel did. She understood she is just like him. She killed her own group to save Lev. It’s all connected and told beautifully.
