9:31 - actually, toriel can kill you. apparently this is meant to be an accident. when your HP is extremely low ( 2, 1) and it's hit with an attack that's NOT the one that dodges you, for a split second, before the battlefield disappears and the heart shaped soul shatters, toriels sprite changes. her eyes get wide and her pupils get tiny while she covers her mouth in shock.

fun fact: you can kill flowey and still get the true pacifist ending. if you kill him, he just wont be around to tell you that there is a better ending, but if you reload you can still do it. its because killing flowey doesnt count as a kill, since flowey has no soul

I can't believe this came from one person still Toby Fox is a great Influential video game designer.

Just an opinion, but I think Undertale still has one of the most well written narratives to this day. The music and everything about it is perfection. I'm really looking forward to the genocide run.

I just realized.. during the part when "Bring it in, guys!" plays, in the Toriel, Asgore, and Monster Kid Segment, Asgore is 'trimming the hedge in the shape of Papyrus's smile'. Sound Familiar? Another Thing Mettaton Is A Great Character. Why? Because, he entertained and distracted the monsters away from depression until Asgore could break the barrier. I assume families sat down and watched him on TV, eating spaghetti, laughing at him, and forgetting, for a brief moment, that they were ever trapped underground.

Chara's motives are interpreted differently by a lot of people. Personally I don't think they were evil when they fell. It's more likely they were suicidal. I think the pie thing was an accident. And it was implied that they wanted to free the monsters by killing themself. But it's up to individual thought. No theory is invalid.

Undertale's story has so many layers and character depth for such a "short" game. The beauty of the game is that it doesn't tell it's story and themes with words alone but with the game play, the music, and everything in between.

I had a look at the comments and honestly I’m so happy I don’t see any, “FRISK IS EVIL!” comments. Personally, I think that Frisk is only being their self on the pacifist route because that’s the only route that you actually hear their name. The player is the evil one.

Was there any confirmation on Chara poisoning Asgore on purpose? I was under the impression that it was an accident, but it indeed seeded the idea to poison herself and attack humanity. I also theorized that because her possitive experiences with monsters underground was so different from her implied negative experiences with humans on the surface, she believed that they (the monsters) deserved to live on the surface *Instead* of humans, rather than coexistence. I personally also support the theory that she struggled with her self-worth, (maybe due to past trauma, and/or because she was also human and she percieved this fact automatically made her "bad"?), and this amplified when she accidentally poisoned Asgore.. making the decision to end her own life easier in order to free monsters. One reason Im on the "Chara isnt evil" team is the change in narration between a True Pacifist and Genocide play through. I believe that in the first, the kindness shown by Frisk to the monsters allows Chara to accept the good in humans, and herself, and emotionally heal. With no strong sense of purpose tying her to the underground, she remains unseen to the player. But not unheard~ If you recall looking in the hall mirror at Home towards the end of the game, the narrator states that "Despite everything, its still you..." Frisk being the one in control, I strongly believe this comment, as well as narrations made about monsters Frisk encounters, are coming from Chara. So long as Frisk was Pacifist, the narrative was never sinister. Yet if a Genocide route is triggered, the comments about monsters becomes much darker... and the mirror narration is changed to "Its me, Chara.." My theory is that Chara never getting the chance to "move on" and having to watch a determined human slaughter the monsters she use to love... caused her to snap. Her hatred leads to her newest plan; taking control of the timeline and inheriting the "evil" identity she believes all humans to have. When Chara addresses the player at the end (Genocide), she mentions that it was their Determination that summoned her. But I do not believe that the Determination to say.. hunt and kill all the monsters.. is any more powerful than the Determination to save the entire underground. What I mean is, if Chara's soul was wakened by Genocide Frisk, why couldn't it also be wakened during Pacifist Frisk? In conclusion, Chara is not evil, but instead influenced by the players decisions due to her implied tragic background ♡

Great, great job, as an undertale nerd I spotted only 2 mistakes in the whole video: 1) Chara never tried harvesting monster souls but sacrifices their own in order to free the monsters, 2) Undyne never invited Frisk to her house, Papyrus did for her. Other than that, the explanation was great and much better than any I could give without overcomplicating things

"Strictly canon" There is proof that Chara isn't evil, and while the proof is in a theory, it was never said Chara was evil... Also it was never said that Chara tried to take Asgore's soul through poisoning him or did Chara know that they would have a bit of control over Asriel...

My only correction would be Asgore's motivation. After Chara's death Asgore does declare war on the human world and does say that any human found in the underground would die, but he cools down and immediately regrets his decision. However, he sees the hope that the declaration has given his people and he can't bring himself to ruin that for them.

You forgot to mention how Chara’s ghost follows Frisk around as the narrator of the story. (That’s how they get flashbacks with Chara and Asriel.)

you missed the fact that mettaton was a ghost, napstablook's brother so alphys didnt made it, gave him a body, a vessel, which is why actually she is hired to be the royal scientist and study the nature of the soul to harnest its power, just like she suceeded with mettatons soul in his new body

IMO, chara wasn't trying to kill Asgore. They were trying to make a pie, but misheard the recipe. It's heavily implied laughing is a common coping mechanism(Sans, Snowdrake family,etc.) in the Underground, so maybe they were trying to cope with, oh, i don't know, maybe poisoning their dad. You're right about the revenge thing though, a possible explanation is they were abused and ridiculed on the surface. Edit: also i think Chara wanted to take 6 souls, break the barrier then either let the monsters and humans live in peace, or let the monsters avenge them. Also I am a heavy believer of the CharaNara theory

i just played this game for the first time and it was by far one of the greatest experiences of my life. from the moment i left home, i had an incredible feeling that something was going on.. i mean i almost cried at the end when i realized whaat i had done... the game is a reflection of our world, our life, and everything inbetween. it's so beautiful that i legit want to make my own version. welcome to MAiWORLD

Chara didn’t actually want to kill asgore and the laughter was a coping method mechanism and just wanted to free their family from the underground.

chara did not try to take asgore's soul, they just wanted to make a pie for him, and they also did not want to steal a monster soul, they wanted to save monsterkind and destroy humanity because the monsters were nicer to them than humans ever were also, chara only told that to asriel to cover up asriel and chara's plan to kill 6 humans to get their souls to free monsterkind

Honestly, the whole Chara thing is kinda up to interpretation, sure it could be seen as malevolent intent, or just a nice hearted attempt to free their new family. I personally buy into the nice Chara theory rather than the revenge filled theory.

Just to clarify, I believe that if you do a neutral run first, that you have to reset the save, and replay, doing a pacifict run, and then get to flowey again. At that point, if you haven't met all the requiremtns, then flowey will tell you what you need to do, and instead of resetting, you just have to reload the save to go finish what you need to do

The first part is all according to a theory called "Evil Chara Theory". And that theory has been debunked multiple times in what is known collectively as "Narrator Chara Theory", which is based on a higher amount of evidence in-game and can be backed up by phycology

I'm pretty sure the garbage dump Mad Dummy is not Napstablook's cousin. The Mad Dummy references his ghost cousin as another ghost living inside a dummy, which is the one Toriel uses to teach Frisk about talking to monsters in order to avoid a fight.

Correction: Chara did not attempt to murder Asgore, she was litterally 10 years old at the time and while you could say "oH BUt sHe LaUGhEd" yeah, it's called Laughing Away The Pain. Something that some people do actually use as a coping mechanism. Plus she's litterally only a scapegoat for everybody who refuses to accept the fact that it's all them, it was always YOU controlling Frisk, it was never Chara, Chara simply watched, CHARA turns EVIL at the end of the Genocide run because YOU taught her to, children learn from experience, like watching what people do. Another thing: do you guys have ANY idea what symptoms the Buttercup poisoning has? I'll list a bit of it: Bloody Diarhea. Painful cramps. Other excruciatingly painful things. The sad story of asriel. Asriel asked her mom to go the ruins When he went to the end of the ruins he met chara chara was wounded so asriel told to chara "do you wanna come to my home?" Then they greatly became best friends chara loved asriel and asriel loved chara but when chara died asriel was sad so he took her soul then took charas body to the surface he found a buttercup patch he tried to lay her body on the buttercups but the humans thought asriel has killed xhara so the humans attacked and almost killed asriel asriel did not attack even if he had the power to end them all. So asriel took the body went back to the underground to bury charas body in the buttecup patch when he was doing it he died and turned to dust because of the attacks of the humans. (He did not attack the humans because he felt like it was killing chara.) When he died agore said to never give mercy to the people who fell down then came the 6 souls then asgore told alphys to make a soul made by her but gaster has done it so alphys thought she could do it. She failed the flower expirement but did it? No the expirement did not fail it made asriel but as a flower then became the violent flower thats says KILL OR BE KILLED flower its flowey.

You can learn from the turtle shop keeper that when a monster reaches maturity that stop aging till they have a child and age as their child ages, And that Toriel and Asgore can't age anymore and will outlive frisk due to having no offspring anymore

Where’s the genocide route? It’s been 3 years

Where is it implied that Chara wanted to kill Asgore to absorb his soul? I replayed the game multiple times and read whole wikia about Undertale, but this is the first time I am hearing this. Also, it is confirmed through ingame tapes and Asriel's dialog that Chara actually planned to commit suicide and let Asriel to absorb Chara's soul.

Something that you can figure out in undertake from the gaster secrets is that W.D. Gaster after making the core, fell into it and died, and asgore, in sadness, took im pretty sure 20-50 years to rehire a new Royal scientist (alphys)

there are many plotholes: 6 different humans managed to fall into the underground by accident and no one thought to get a ladder and climb out of the hole? when you leave the underground, alphys says it's even more beautiful than on tv. if they have tv, how have they never communicated to the humans above? mettaton is a robot, it isn't alive, and alphys said she can just make another mettaton, so why has she never built a robot to leave the underground and drag a human back to the underground? if she can design a killer robot she can attach a net and some mufflers to one. stoopid if sans can feel other timelines, just by facial expressions, deja vu etc, why does he only feel them in genocide? if you do genocide 30 times and do pacifist, why does he suddenly not care? but if you do a single pacifist run he still knows in another timeline you used to be his friend before his 2nd phase. I just don't get why he only remembers the good things even though they have less of an effect. ok that's my rant

the plot and story of this game is incredible, but everytime I hear that sound track I get chills. it is absolutely unfathomable to me that toby fox (along with others) were able to craft a soundtrack packed with so many emotions; so it sucks that the fanbase is one of the most toxic that i've ever seen

Chara’s goal was to free the monsters thinking they deserve to be on the surface as for the pie 🥧 Chara is a child they didn’t know it was poisonous till it was too late when Asriel said “ I should’ve laughed it off like you did” and in the game it is hinted that laughing could be a coping mechanism for pain as Asriel said Chara’s reason for falling in the underground “wasn’t for a very happy reason” there was clues Chara loved the monsters so they wanted to free them by poisoning themselves sacrificing themself Asriel only hesitates due to how much pain Chara was in and when their soul was absorbed Chara only tried to kill all the humans instead of seven because Asriel was dying but lost to Asriel’s will as for Chara not being the greatest person as Asriel had said but it could only mean that Chara was mistreated by humans and only hearing bad things about monsters until they started warming up to monsters which is why they are optimistic in the pacifist route and pessimistic in the no mercy route they are silent during Toriel and Asgores fight but when they were going to kill Asriel/Flowey Chara hesitates until you push them forward to kill him and Chara saying “let’s erase this pointless world” they meant it’s literally is pointless cause there’s no one around anymore Alphys met Undyne after thinking about X_X herself but Undyne talks her out of it and they both started getting 😍 feelings for each other over the time they’ve known each other In the Asriel fight it is Chara who reminds Asriel about his compassion without Chara the happy ending wouldn’t be possible and Asriel will still be in a world without love ❤️

What I love about the game so much is the fact that every, even the smallest of monsters are given personalities. It really makes the world seem real. Take shyren for example, she had been given such a deep character even though she is just an enemy you run into once

I just have a few questions. If Alphys was able to extract Determination out of the six human souls, does that mean they could reset and save too when they were still alive? And if that's true, why didn't they use that ability? Were they unaware of it? Just in case, I don't even know if these questions were already answered or not
