Maguire's Rule For Drainage This is the catalyst that created the modern economic era. Maguire's Rule -- Vary the gradient of the fall of a pipe with the diameter of a pipe and the pipe is self cleaning with low and intermittent flow rates. Maguire's Rule applied to sewers. Thus sewers that had been open so they could be unblocked when they blocked up however this created an acute problem with disease. Applying Maguire's Rule society can move from open sewers that create an acute problem with disease too sealed sewers as the pipe is self cleaning with low and intermittent flow rates. Sealed sewer pipes drop in disease urbanisation. Maguire's Rule for drainage is the catalyst that really created the modern era. From Maguire's Rule for drainage modern plumbing developed thus rising population and rising population density in urban areas resulting in more competition using the Capitalist Economic Model. From Maguire's Rule for drainage being to vary the gradient of the fall of a pipe with the diameter of a pipe the modern Global Capitalist Society developed. Challenge anyone to refute the above. Comments welcome

Hi, doctor here working in and teaching Pathology. Fantastic, fantastic map! A few suggestions: - for diagnostic methods, we also have electrophysiological testing, e.g., ECG (you mentioned this) and EEG - histopathological assessments not only diagnose abnormal cells/cancer from biopsies, we also look at specimens taken out from a full surgery to help stage the cancer - epidemiology is usually considered the basic science of public health (although your way of presenting it is completely reasonable) Overall, this was really fun to watch!

How's it like working in the field of Pathology? I am very intrigued by it and maybe want to be a Forensic Pathologist. What would u say are some pros and cons of pathology?
@davidegong
@davidegong 7 ай бұрын
Hi @@cherrycat5599 , it's an amazing, amazing field that is constantly expanding and evolving. Loads of reading and applying what you've learnt to the cases you see every day. Forensic pathology is a fascinating field - there's a lot of clinicopathological correlation in the context of suspicious cases (at least in UK and Ireland, uncomplicated/unsuspicious deaths are dealt with by non-forensic pathologists, and FPs deal with suspicious deaths). Pros: 1. All the interesting cases in the hospital you work in will arrive in your department (benign boring cases, apart from screening specimens, would not usually need invasive investigations/treatments). 2. You stand at the interface between patients and science and get to explain what your findings mean to the patients in your meeting with clinicians. 3. You are constantly learning new things no matter how good you are (from Consultants, trainees and scientists, alike; but the patients will always, always be a doctor's best teachers!) Cons: 1. Exams are extremely challenging and there is a lot of studying needed (I was in clinical medicine before transitioning to Histo - the amount and level of studying I do every day now is way more overwhelming). 2. Sometimes I miss talking to and examining patients (I try to compensate for this by doing very thorough and in-depth clinicopathological correlation when discussing cases with my students so that I get to keep my clinical knowledge (if not skills). 3. People also misunderstand what I do all the time because they have no exposure to Histo and assume we just sit behind a desk not doing anything :(

Hi, love DOS. Minor correction: on "biostatistics" it seems you switched the mean and median. You show a positively skewed distribution where the mean should be right to the median since it is more sensitive to the extreme values. It is also very obvious that the area right to the median is not equal to the larger left part of the distribution where it should be 50-50. Cheers.

However , I believe podiatry is also practiced in UK as a separate specialty (just like it is here in USA) , and I didn’t see it listed in the chart, but that’s okay !! For me it makes more sense to first explain the basic facts of human physiology and disease on one map before talking about the ethics of medicine such as what doctors should and should not do or the various healthcare jobs. Medicine doesn't neatly fit into a map of knowledge like in previous videos because its not an academic subject (that's physiology or pathology) its a job that includes "ought" statements as well as "is" statements and its important to distinguish between the two.

So many fields in medicine and i barely think of most of them, And this video shows how different it is in other parts of the world... Before I start, I'm also a doctor. These are the subjects that matter the most to most doctors here... 1. Dermatology and radiology: highly sought out because you just hage to work 9-4, and no night duties, no emergencies, you can just chill... 2. General medicine, pulmonology, and paediatrics : when you're interested in seeing how the body works without actually getting into the body... 3. general surgery and orthopaedics: if you're more interested in actually getting into the body to solve things... 4. Obstetrics and gynaecology : if you're more interested in female reproductive organs... 5. Minor subject time A. Psychiatry: if you're interested in how the mind works and how to treat the abnormalities B. Anaesthesiology : every single surgery needs anaesthesia... C. Opthalmology : if you can't compete with surgeons and just want to deal with eyes D. ENT : If you can't compete with surgeons, and have good hand eye coordination, and prefer using slightly smaller instruments than surgeons... 6. Pathology : you hate patients and just want to diagnose the actual specimens... 7. Microbiology : same as pathology but with microorganisms instead 8. Don't care about patients, just want to teach the next generation of doctors...

As a lay person I find this excellent as an overview. Perhaps a greater focus on the rare/ultra rare conditions ie over 7000 and growing would help to raise the profile of these conditions in the population. Their diagnosis, prevention and treatment are major growth areas. It's a whole map in itself. Thanks
