THE CONFIDENT GOLFER
Golfer Automata
** DETAILS **
HOW LONG TO MAKE: 40+ hours
HARDEST PART(s): Getting all the mechanisms to fit, and to work correctly
HOW FOUND: Saw a picture on the internet. Loved it. Made my own version.
MATERIALS: Baltic Birch Plywood, some of maple, pine, bass, and paduck, paint, lacquer, hanger wire, glues.
ORIGINAL SOURCE: Ivan Morgan created the original of this piece, called The Crazy Golfer. His website is located at: www.positivelycreative.co.uk/ I happen to believe that Ivan is a woodworking genius. You should go and look at all the interesting and impressive things he has built. He was even kind enough to answer a few questions from me along the way. I did change a thing or two, but really, I have just reverse-engineered Ivan’s original. Check out his creations!
COMMENTS: This has been one of my favorite automatas to make. The mechanisms to move the ball up at the right time, for the golf club to be brought back and then snapped forward at the right time, and for the golfer’s head to look down at the ball, then back to the hole, then down at the ball again - all at the right time was really incredible for me to watch and then try to replicate … frankly all of the synchronism in this piece amazed me.
