Jay Electronica has a very confusing legacy. For a time he seemed more like a myth instead of an actual person. At one point he was being propped up to be the savior of hip-hop. But after all that hype that was built, he didn’t manage to release an album for almost a decade.

I’m honestly still rooting for Jay Elec to this day. A Written Testimony got a lot of hate but that album is incredible.

I remember the morning I found out Act II was leaked and equipped with a link. I neglected everything I had to do that morning to listen and I did not regret it. For it to not have been finished or cleaned up. One of the greatest pieces of music ever

Anyone asking the reasoning and lore around Jay Elec are not from the generation. He was super talented as a writer, wiser beyond his age, a culmination of his travels, and respected by hip hop heads. Jay was the guy that blew you away in your first listen and drew you in. 2000-2010 had a ton of hip hop babies. Remember these are the fans of 80s and 90s rappers which have tagged the “Golden Era”. You gotta be in the know to know

Jays the greatest artist ever in rap.. QUANTITY doesnt equal QUALITY.. And what Jay has is PURE quality, like even I remember when he said Dot want to be him and as a fan of both i said "nah".. But as I heard Dot say im not your savior on mister morale for some reason Jay popped up in my mind... When the Drake and Dot beef was over i listen to all of Jays work and relized "Damn.. His old music better than most of thier new music"... The message and just "aura" of EVERY SINGLE SONG from Jay just cant be matched.. The fact hes even has a little amount of music but in comparision to the others yet MANY will still make the debate is proof of how good that quality is..

@@rajshah7984 He’s a great artist.. It doesn’t equate to a good businessman exactly though.. Tbh Jay also wasnt as good in anything outside of the music itself.. When speaking publicly he stammers a lot, and forgets his place with the topic.. He’s not able to speak publicly as well as he can on a song.. Tbh his interviews seemed almost like it was the reverse of himself on a beat.. Really uncomfortable.. So his lack of ability to connect with people outside of the music when interacting hurt him.. But I think hes an introvert so being social kinda just isn’t his thing imo.. I see all the things he missed at and admit it but again just if we sticking to him making music alone he’s probably the best..

If he would’ve done the smart move and stay independent and seized his opportunity he could’ve led us into revolution musically..

It’s crazy because despite having 1 album on streaming services Exhibit C truly is one of the best rap songs ever and the strength of tht song kept him relevant all these years, truly an extremely interesting case of someone tht clearly has the talent but although getting tangled up with arguably the richest family ever is a distraction, he definitely had a lot of time to drop so i think it’s safe to say he wasted some of it. The pens always sharp tho, just missed a massive window of opportunity.

I have his “Victory” mixtape as one of my faves ever but you see it is his greatness that made that “The written testimony” album such a disappointment because it felt like a Jay Z featuring Jay Electronica album. I didn’t want to hear Jay Z, I just wanted to hear Jay Electronica giving me bars over beats as good as or better than Exhibit A & C. The mad thing is Just Blaze has tracks in the vault he did with him that we haven’t heard. Just Blaze said this himself!! A whole album’s worth! There are even unreleased tracks produced by Just Blaze with Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) they were thinking of being a group!! 😭😢

I remember being a freshman in high school when I heard Exhibit A & C and thinking that this dude was THE FUTURE! Insane to think that he not only squandered any opportunity he had to be in the KanYe West (don’t @ me)/Kendrick Lamar/ J. Cole GOAT conversation in terms of consistency & longevity…but at least he didn’t just drop after 12-13 years then go away forever 🤷🏽‍♂️

I would say watch the video to see. Many people (including me) think he’s quite interesting. Has all the talent in the world but didn’t drop an album for almost a decade. Basically drops a collab album with Jay-Z and then his album he was supposed to drop in 2011 gets leaked and it’s a masterpiece (IMO). There’s a lot of other things I talk about in the video regarding his story but it’s really bizarre to say the least
