Beautiful technique! Also, there is great training footage with Marcos Tinoco and Marcelo Garcia. It's one of the best rolls I've ever seen. I think Marcos was a brown belt at the time.

Professor awesome details and one of my favorite moves that I learned from Professor Garcia from watching it on KZfaq. The detail at the end of pressuring around the diaphragm forces their head up, which I use for gi. I also like it from side control trapping the arm the same way, but using an Americana taught to us by Professor Jay Pages. 1. When opponent frames across your neck turn your head towards opponents head. 2. Once you turn your head use your chin to pressure down on their wrist, (this weakens their frame, but also flares their elbow out slightly) 3. With the arm closer to hip grip their bicep right at the elbow bend this is the detail that will give you the Americana or North South. Pull their elbow into you while taking your elbow and pressuring their diaphragm making sure you still have chin pressuring down on the wrist.. This opens up their neck like the knee on belly. You have the two submission options for North South or Americana. There is a third option for a far side armbar but requires more movement, which gives up a little too much space. I am not technical enough to perform this, so I limit it to the two options. I am working on it, but it definitely is an art.

How applicable is this for MMA purposes, given the window for strikes from the bottom. Any tips? 😉

Super. You don't have to look you can often feel there head/chin on the side of your body, waiting there, as the instinct is to always when pinned on the floor to try and get up by bringing yourself forwards!

I also still get the north south with their head still on the floor. I find my hand still slides under the head if they don't see it coming.

what u said at 2:50 was rlly helpful does that also apply to an arm triangle? i’m only a white belt and my arm triangles don’t work sometimes and i think it’s cuz of my hand placement

Does anyone know what the purpose of linking hands for the north south choke is? i have never felt the need to do that as the choke is more about dropping low rather than squeezing with your arms. I find it a lot more useful to use my free arm to fend off the opponents arm on that side as thats where most problems come from. I know marcelo does it with linked hands so i must be missing something.
@guam58

It just adds extra leverage to lock head in to make choke tighter. It isn't necessary, but the tap comes quicker. I use it when I am rolling with a physically stronger opponent.
@prandz420
@prandz420 2 жыл бұрын
@@guam58 yeah right, are you using the lock to pull yourself down to the ground harder? Or more like a kata gatame? I never found use for it when i was learning the choke but now that ive got a few years experience with the choke ill come back to it.

Not only are you looking at his face, but most importantly you are smelling his armpit. So watch out so you don't pass out, pass out, pass out, pass out. One of the reasons why I don't miss JiuJitsu practice at all is all the bad odor. Have mercy.

Professor Garcia > did not invent this move >> this move was done by Helio Gracie because he showed it to us in class 1000 times in Torrance , California many years ago . Hélio calls this a window that opens > when the head comes up “ The window is open “ it’s a Helio Gracie move > please give credit to the real inventor >
