If I remember correctly, the reason Wybie exist is because Neil Gaiman wanted Coraline to have somebody to talk to who's the same age as her Btw love your videos, keep it up!

There is also a lot of Shakespeare references in the movie. The elderly actresses Ms. Spink and Ms. Forcible in the film have posters of themselves in their apartment as the leading female roles in two Shakespearean tragedies - "King Lear" and "Julius Caesar". The "other versions" of the elderly actresses also recite the "What a piece of work is man" monologue from "Hamlet" during the show they perform for Coraline.

@hangingrei

I've always been fascinated with Coraline theory videos, so over the years I did my own digging. Here's what I found: Coraline the movie has a LOT of fae lore. Like, a lot. It's the one thing that is constant in the movie yet no one really notices just HOW important it is. Examples: The fairy ring around the well, The Beldam saying she once kidnapped a faery, the otherworld literally called the otherworld (thats what the fae world is called), the amount of food the Beldam cooks to keep Coraline in (Faeries would make humans eat fae food to trap them), Coraline continuously saying thank you and then being indebted to the Beldam, the Beldam being scared of both the tunnel (because its alive, it's its own living thing) and the cat (which, you guessed it, IS A FAERY. Not just a faery though, the one that made her into the Beldam to begin with.). The sand (which has sawdust in it) is something the fae can manipulate and use to their advantage (like making cameras). In fae lore, sawdust can confuse a human, allowing them to take what they want without worry of getting hurt. It's very much possible in the otherworld and with the fae magic they can manipulate dolls and use them as windows/spies. But yeah, once you realize just how much fae lore is implemented in Coraline, you can solve a lot more theories and questions. If I or anyone else digs enough, we may actually be able to solve all of them.

The triangle stone could definetly be alluding to the all seeing eye, but there is also something known as a Hag stone. A hagstone is a natural stone, with a weathered hole or hole in it. It is said that looking through this stone you can see things that aren't visible to the naked eye, and the things usually referred to are faeries. Also, we can see mushrooms around the well. Mushrooms arranged in a circle pattern are know as faery circles. It is said that faeries gather there, along with many other things that they do. There are many tales of what could happen if you step into one, but the closest I could find to this story is that you'll be teleported into their dimension, and that you could die. Many of these supernatural references make the think about how related to the faerie realm the other mother was.

I remember watching this in cinema when I was about 8. I remember feeling really uneasy watching it since it didn't resemble any other animated movie I've seen before, but for some reason I don't remember being too scared. I also remember a lot of parents complained online that the movie caused their children to have nightmares and that it's a horror movie falsely advertised as a movie for children. Can't say I don't agree with them, but I'm still glad I got to watch it:)

Trust me, if you grew up in the 90s there were a lot of reasons to have nightmares. Coraline just encapsulated that children's entertainment uncanny horror. The 90s-2000s were basically child nightmare fuel on CN and Nick. Shows like courage the cowardly dog were using stop motion this way for years. And that was pure nightmare fuel.

Some corrections/additions: Neil's last name is pronounced Guy-min Nightmare before Christmas isnt a tim burton movie. It's Henry Selick's movie he also directed Coraline making it his movie too. Miss spink and miss forcible are lovers not sisters. Addition/expansion: In the book the well is decribed as if it was a sentient creature which goes more into the theory that the well is another portal to the other world. Coraline is inspired by an old Victorian folktale called "The Pear Drum" or "the new mother", its about to girls who are told to misbehave in order to get a drum from a ragged girl. Their mother begs them to stop and attempts to scare them saying theyll get a new mother with a wooden tail and glass eyes.

One theory I have is fairies are a force in their world, perhaps they created the other world. 2 things make me think this. Surrounding the well is a ring of mushrooms, also known as a fairy ring. And the stone Spink and forcible give coraline is called a fairy stone, which is a rock with a hole in it believed to see through a witch's magic. It's not much evidence but it's enough to make me suspect.

Yeah I don't think YB is an "Imagination" of Coraline because the book and the film are purposefully separated and it sounds so too far off, what I mean by that is it's feels not quite convincing and can possibly debunked.

Iceberg was cool but the video was definitely rushed. A handful of the entries he tried to explain were completely off. For example Wybie being fake was a fan theory involving his placement in the movie and whether or not the reality as Coraline knows it was real. The all seeing eye was just a reference to the stone. The eye on the cap that April Spink wears is a reference to one's third eye, which is a concept from eastern mysticism. I'm pretty sure the Paranorman theory was relating to how both movies are in the same universe due to them both being made by the same studio and a couple easter eggs or something. The Beldam being a human at one point was cover decently well in the video, but doesn't explain most of the evidence that she was a human. At 9:20 he calls Wybie "Wyborn". At 11:30 he claims that the clip is a deleted scene when it's actually just the end of the movie. The sand/cotton theory wasn't just relating to the opening scene but how the other world worked in general made by The Theorizer on KZfaq. At 13:28 he mispronounces the world homage and leaves out a bunch of the other evidence for Coraline not actually escaping the Other Mother. Also the point of the ending of the shining wasn't to show that Jack is still alive. Tl;dr dude seriously needs an editor or needs rewatch his videos before he uploads them. If you're interested in more thing Coraline The Theorizer has an entire series on it. For Coraline originally being a work of fiction for children it's surprisingly deep.

Ngl, since you mentioned how the well looks similar to the door entrance and may be another way into the other world, it made me think. The cat said that there were more than one ways to get into the other mothers dimension. I heard that there is a second movie coming out (I dunno if it's true or not but I think it is} and I think what's going to happen is that when Coraline threw the hand into the well along with the key, the hand and key got transported into the other dimension and now the other mother has it. What happens next, idk, but it would be interesting

You could've mentioned that the book doesn't take place in Oregon but, in fact, near London.

The well can’t be a portal to the other world because the other mother wouldn’t have tried to stop her from throwing the key in there cause it would go straight to her

She asks if his grandmas black to try ro clarify to herself that one of the souls she met was her missing sister. Knowing that the soul was a black girl and his grandma likely was too. It was probably removed for sounding goofy due to coralines excitement she gets suddenly after realizing they are connected
