To be clear - you don't HAVE to play any character class in line with these fantasies, but each class in D&D has a core fantasy they're trying to execute, and understanding them makes it much easier to understand what the rules are attempting to communicate.

In Marvel, Sorcerer actually means what D&D calls Warlock, or more rarely Cleric or Druid. It's more about drawing power from powerful entities or planes of existence, usually but not always via pact (for a broad definition of "pact" that can range from offering prayer to wielding artifacts to more elaborate contracts). Their closest equivalent of Wizardry is more like nigh-godly Monk ki manipulation (and indeed the power gods and similar entities grant to their supplicants is their ki). And for completeness, yes, Scarlet Witch works like a Sorcerer in the D&D sense.

I like the D&D distinctions between wizard, warlock, and sorcerer. I know this is more of a semantics thing, but before I knew about D&D, I associated "warlock" with a pact situation, "wizard" with being born/otherwise naturally gifted with power, and "sorcerer" with learning magic 🤷‍♀️

Similar to how the video explained it, I've always seen a bardic college as somewhere between a school of thought or philosophy and also their background. As not all bards are performers, I think what truly unites them as a class is how they leverage their charisma. A college of whispers bard cuts their teeth in a much different way than the college of glamor. A "performance" from a young college of whispers bard could be a deceitful retelling of a narrative done in seedy underworld bars to gain influence for a mob boss. To me a college represents how a bard learned and apply their charisma to achieve their goals.

Everyone dogs on Ranger's Companion from the PHB , which is fair if you want a strong, reliable companion. But I think it would be interesting to play one with tenuous attachments to the beasts of the land. You go to an adventure location, make an ally of a local animal (which knows that specific area better then you do), help each other with your problems and theirs, and once the adventure is done at that location, you leave it behind and find a new companion at another location. Now instead of having one deep connection, you have a network of animal companions scattered across different locations.

That would actually be pretty fun. Basically making the creatures of nature your questgivers, instead of townspeople. Some eldritch beast is forcing out the local predators, and overkilling, so the ranger steps in to kill the monster, and restore balance to the land for the bears and wolves.

I loved that addition, yeah! And it gels pretty well with the fact it comes at level 3 - you've been building towards this, finding and feeling out your purpose, and now, at last, you have an epiphany, swear an oath (literally or perhaps just in your heart - what matters is the commitment, not just the ritual), and gain new u understanding of yourself amd your abilities, while being blessed by the Divine for the choice. I especially love that one weird Paladin variant in 5e PHB where it's kinda like a druid-paladin. I made one that one of these days I'd love to play in a proper game, because I picture her having always loved both nature and people, and her Oath represents the final connection to the sacred spectrum that is Life itself clicking into place as she finds her purpose and gains favor from the divine entitie(s) connected to the natural world. Such a lovely concept, I think, and it fits really well with both her love for the natural world and her friendly, fiercely compassionate personality.

@@studioyokai Hell, the PHB has a subclass of paladin that doesn't even *have* to be good. The oath of vengeance is one where the paladin's own goodness and virtue are second to the destruction of an enemy. The oath of conquest from Xanathar's is also kind of like that. Their tenants talk about crushing the hope of their enemies and generally being sworn to law before goodness.

I absolutely agree! My partner and I were talking about this the other night, and we decided that a paladin, more than anything, is defined by the fact that they're strongly committed to a cause or ideal. Bards are based on a (somewhat poor) understanding of the historical medieval Irish bards (which itself is a misunderstanding of the historical medieval Irish filid, "poets"...but that's another story!), who were not only learned in music and poetry as well as storytelling, but also genealogy, history, law, and often medicine and magic of various kinds (their own and others). The Ollamh Flatha or "King's Poet" was expected to go into battle with the king and fight just like anyone else, and lower-grade poets and bards, like most others in that society, were expected to be able to fight and handle weapons adequately. This is the origin, in early D&D editions, of the idea of the bard as a "jack of all trades." There were poetic schools in Irish and Welsh cultures, which then creates the idea of "bardic colleges" in D&D. It may not make much sense from an external perspective, but when you know the history of the originating ideas of these matters, it makes a great deal more sense, even though it still misses the mark by a longshot in many ways.

@@SLorraineE Not exactly--if anything, the medieval Celtic cultures wrote more than the surrounding cultures. Yes, they were a primarily oral culture before that, but once they became literate, they produced a great deal; some of it never was written down, and some of what was written has been lost; but what survives is extensive. Beowulf is the only Anglo-Saxon epic that survives, for example; we have four recensions of the primary medieval Irish epic, and about twelve mostly complete manuscripts of it, plus hundreds of other tales. This writing is all taking place right around the time that Beowulf was also written.

My default rogue was always the acrobat/engineer. I get around the locked doors and traps, rigged my own and was a scholar. It annoyed the party when we were clearing out an abandoned wizard's tower. A cult of ogre magi worshippers had moved in and we moved through the tower avoiding the bulk of their forces, seeking out their leaders and champions and such. As we advanced I installed traps behind us so that we wouldn't be surprised and flanked. We came to the throne room and we killed the half ogre shaman and his advisors. As he lay dying, he threw a rock at a gargantuan gong which rang out. From the hall behind us came a slow booming tread. Something heavy and large was coming, the floor shook and a dense metallic scraping could be heard as some fiercesome weapon was dragged against granite flagstones. The party, tired, bloodied and depleted readied themselves to face the dreaded abomination rumoured to be housed here, the half blue dragon son of the ogre magi queen. The butcher of the 4th regiment at raven's field. The devourer of orphans and the render of the baronial bloodline. Doom Bringer. Zael. The room shook, books toppled, a candelabra toppled. There was a soft *hwiiip noise*. The sound halted outside the unlit door way. Something heavy and metal crashed to the floor and then the ajar doors burst open... And the decapitated head of Zael rolled into the throne room. It came to rest on it's bloody stump. For a moment the boulder sized head looked at the party then the mouth opened as if to speak and the head toppled to one side, eyes rolling back in it's head. I'd one hit killed the final boss of the session, 'off screen' with a trap that used my old vorpal cutlass as it's blade. My group banned me playing engineer characters after that.

I feel like you're kinda missing the forest for the trees - you're describing WHAT Warlocks do, when the point here is to try to pin down WHY they work that way. The fantasy of a Warlock - the character that players want to embody when they pick the class - is someone who makes a devil's bargain (sometimes literally) for power, their magic coming from an external force in exchange for something. And you can kind of reverse engineer the class's design decisions from there - they're a class that mostly plays like a martial, using eldritch blast in place of ranged weapons, but who gets about 2 big spells they can cast per encounter, which represents the idea of borrowed power pretty well. Their invocations convey the idea of esoteric knowledge and power, distinct from that of other arcane casters and even other warlocks.

@@seanmurphy3430 Exactly. The Warlock is very unique and fits that fantasy well. You're quite literally "weird"; a practitioner of witchcraft. You have these esoteric abilities granted to you by a patron who marks you with strange powers. The low number of high-level spell slots fits that theme of borrowed power, as you've said. It doesn't take long for a Warlock's power to run out; their patron is mighty, but not particularly generous. It fulfills the fantasy of high-risk, high-reward, power at the price of sustainability and consistency.

monk player here, I really like your take on the fantasy behind them. I hadn't really thought of it until you said it, and it definitely feels accurate in my party, which is at present, almost entirely ranged fighters otherwise. There is something very satisfying about swooping in at lightning speed and incapacitating an enemy just long enough for your warlock to wallop them in the face with eldritch blast. I'd also say there's a level of satisfaction when you're the one to make the big kills; my DM does how do you want to do this kills, and it's so much fun coming up with unique ways to obliterate someone with your bare hands. I also like to add that all joking aside, Druids also have the fantasy of shape shifting. some subclasses focus more on the wild shape than others, but I think the fantasy of being versatile through transformation into animals is a part of the appeal. You did say versatility was the fantasy, I just feel like that's an element of it. Alongside it sometimes just being fun to be a snake or something :P

I think clerics are kind of similar to Bards in that they're sort of torn between two different fantasies. There's what you described - a conduit of divine power as capable of wielding their god's wrath as bestowing their blessings - but let's be honest, some people do just want to play a healer, and while clerics are no longer the only option in the game for that, they remain the best option. These two fantasies aren't necessarily in conflict, but they do pull the class in different directions, which does maybe leave it a bit unfocused.

@@Brittanysplittany And yet that can fit together naturally to me. "Beware the wrath of a kind man." comes to mind. Another that comes to mind is this: "When your a God, you get a lot of requests: for spells, for miracles, for advice. You get to know a bit about your clerics, the kinds of things they tend to ask for. So when a voice you vaguely know suddenly asks for something that is unusual, it catches your attention." The kindly healer asking for the power to do harm will get attention. The brutal enforcer asking for the power to cure disease will get attention. The loyal Paladin rendering an ultimatum to their god for vengeance is going to be noticed. (For good or bad.)

As someone who plays warlocks, I think the fantasy is more a little broader than just "make a deal with [being]." It's somewhere between "Always be ready for anything" (as is supported by the rules and the short-rest spell recharge) and "Do what has to be done, no matter the costs" (this is more a narrative thing, but not everyone makes a pact, and most good characters have a good reason for doing it).

GREAT video! And the movie clips are SUCH a good choice to illustrate the fantasies in question, and what we mean when we talk about a "core fantasy". I'm also constantly banging on about how the core fantasy of a class should ideally be expressed with a core mechanic (like Bardic Inspiration or Sneak Attack), so I love that you mentioned the Ranger's core fantasy being almost absent from the 5e PHB because I'm never shutting up about how they were missing a core mechanic as well, haha

Bards in early D&D were supposed to reflect Celtic traditions. They were 'Fili', an elite class of poets and oral historians who memorised histories, geneologies and law in oral cultures. This is why you have the connection between performance (oral recitation of histories, tales, etc), magic (they were educated in the 'mysteries' of the world and some stories have them doing things like changing shape, performing divinations, curses, etc) and skills (they knew stuff). They were closely connected to Druids and there would have been a lot of overlap.

With the Paladins I think the way Evil ones still work with the fantasy is that the character THINKS they are doing good, or at the very least they are fully devoted to their cause/deity above all else. I think it's the conviction and the certainty in one's beliefs combined with the proof in the form of raw power that really fuels the fantasy that manifests in characters who completely believe themselves to be in the right whether they think they are Good or Evil. Also, Artificer is my favorite class and how I play it is that they are a craftsman of some type by trade (glass blowing, carpentry, etc etc) and that they take up tinkering in general as a hobby building off of their base skills they obtained from their trade. For me it makes sense as it grounds the tinkering into where they might get the initial skills needed, then refine their focus with things like Alchemy or other skills to flesh them out. There's a lot of ways to go about it, that's just the one I like personally with my favorite character. Just a tinkerer who found a profession that utilizes some of their skills while giving them the means to flesh out others.

Is it "good" to intrude on a kobolds lair and wipe out entire families? Is it "just" to attack a demon for existing? Is it "right" to claim a moral high ground and dare to preace about what YOU want to protect when you don't even consider the enemy? White knights are hypocrites. The devil you know just won't pretend. No one acts without self interest. As Samuel states, "Might makes right". Either you are STRONG enough to keep what's worth having. Or you are too WEAK to hold on to it. Morals won't change that.

An interesting sequel to this could be subclasses that notably break a core fantasy or change it significantly, such as circle of stars druid changing both where the power is drawn from and a significant impact on your gameplay since wild shape becomes a utility tool that you dont want to use much due to starry form stances being so important.

Excellent look at the aesthetics of what classes are supposed to provide in play, with respect for how they feel to play. While some comments are 5e-specific, a lot are basically true for earlier editions of the game as well. I run and play 3.5 games for a variety of reasons not relevant here, but one thing I like about 5e is it took the core classes and then gives options at 3rd level for different versions of the core class, which makes the PHB really offer about triple the number of class options, which in 3.5 was done with a bunch of new classes in various later books, plus prestige classes. I look to some 5e content creators for inspiration on how to improve my 3.5 GMing and playing - keep up the great work!

@@Lordmewtwo151 I admit it's a bit of a stretch, but I was looking for something to explain the team dynamic to a group of new, adult players, all unfamiliar with D&D. It is funny how the classes (and their fantasies) changed through the editions. When I first started playing Wizards had access to the most variety of spells, but had to choose and prepare the ones they were going to use through that day, while Sorcerers had very few spells but didn't have to prepare them beforehand, and Warlocks were not even a thing (no cantrips, by the way, so we had hard spell limits for each day). The difference was, at that time, if you wanted more spell options but less uses each day (wizard) or using more spells during each day but having a smaller selection (sorcerer) That kind molded how I see the classes to this day, even though the rules changed completely. (by day, consider the space between 2 long rests, not 24h)

Pathfinder D&D had a lot of variant classes based off the Bard: One was the Archaeologist which removed the Bard's focus on music to instead focus on knowledge skills, and swapped in the Rogue's skills in finding and disabling traps. Along with the Bard being the only class who gets exotic weapon whip for free, yes, this was exactly what you thought it was: Indiana Jones as a D&D class. If you wanted to play Indiana Jones in d20 D&D 3.5 there were 1. various skill-/knowledge-based full class variants of Bard or Rogue in "Cityscape", 2. the Archivist (in "Heroes of Horror" I think it was?) who was a book-focussed spellcasting sage with high skillpoints/level who used extensive knowledge skills to power his special abilities, up to (at high level) a supernatural ability called "Word of Power" that could stun any single enemy for a round with no save, 3. the Dungeon Delver in "Dungeonscape" rulebook, although that was more of a ranger-rogue mix that specialized on exploring and fighting in tight underground structures like dungeons and cave systems, got Knowledge (Dungeoneering) and (Architecture) as class skills, and received special abilities including darkvision/blind fighting and an ability to squeeze through tight openings as if they were a size category smaller.

I pulled the group so many times with the flurry+stunning strike combo 😂

It means monks can get a lot done in a single turn, enhancing the feeling of being lightning-quick and lethally efficient. In my most recent game a hag was like 80 feet away on a roof destroying us w spells and my monk managed to zip over there, jump onto the roof and stun her in one turn, thus giving the melee people a chance to get close and the ranged people advantage - it was GREAT

@Stray7
@Stray7 Жыл бұрын
Settings! I can help with that. *The Forgotten Realms* are pretty much "D&D Classic" -- it's one of the oldest campaign settings and has a ton of lore, and sort of sets the mold for the medieval fantasy that base D&D strives for. There's people who are going to @ me for this take, probably, but The Forgotten Realms is treated as the "default" D&D setting. *Eberron* is basically a fantasy version of Post WWI Europe -- The old order crumbled after a great war and there's a tenuous balance, non-government organizations (the Dragonmarked Houses) are almost as powerful as the kingdoms, and new magical technologies have transformed all aspects of daily life. There's a lot of intrigue, and a lot of Casablanca-style gray and grey morality where heroes and villains aren't always clear-cut and there's a lot of Indiana Jones-style pulp adventuring. *Exandria* is the world that the campaigns of Critical Role are set in. It started off as a mostly-standard D&D setting, but has grown in complexity and lore over the years and now has an Enlightenment-era feel -- the world is entering a Renaissance period and emerging from the shadows of The Calamity, an ancient divine conflict. *Dragonlance* is Knights And Sorcery, and has a post-apocalyptic flavor. Following The Cataclysm and The Rain of Colorless Fire, the Gods almost completely withdrew from the world, and a lot of fantastical elements went away (Dragons and Clerical Magic among them). But now those things once lost are beginning to reemerge. *Ravnica* is a transplant from the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering, a plane that is one giant city. It is the ultimate urban setting, where ten guilds have a strong influence over daily life but are kept from dominating each other by a magical agreement called The Guildpact, though since The Guildpact is invested in a planeswalker who is often out wandering the multiverse, the guilds grow ever bolder when he's away and conflict ratchets up. Unlike many D&D settings, there's not a large emphasis on discrete Gods -- there's a church, but it functions more like a bank and a criminal syndicate with divine trappings. Some other settings you may have heard of: *Spelljammer* is Fantasy IN SPACE! A Spelljammer is a magical ship that can cross the endless expanse of the universe, so it's sort of the ultimate "sail to adventure" sort of setting. In Spelljammer, you can have pirate adventures one week, make port and have adventure in any D&D World another week, and then play around with Alien Weirdness and Negative Space Wedgies the third week. It can be very Pirates Of The Caribbean meets Star Trek. *Ravenloft* is a horror setting. The Dark Powers, mysterious entities with an unknown agenda, have pulled in villains from across the multiverse. Each of these villains finds themselves the lord of their own domian...but these domains are designed to torment them for whatever sins brought them to the Dark Powers' attention. Each Domain reflects a different sort of horror and tragic fate. For instance, Strahd, the most famous of the Darklords, is a vampire in the mold of Dracula, and his realm lives in terror of him -- but he is tormented with the reincarnation of a woman he coveted and could not have, and events always conspire to have her show up, him find her, and then circumstances snatch her away before he can claim her as his own. Thus, his obsession keeps him from real satisfaction. *Theros* is Xena & Hercules: The Campaign Setting. In a time of myth and legend, in a land of ancient gods, warlords, and kings, heroes take up the mantle of Champions of the gods, and travel the land performing mighty deeds. The Gods of Theros are super-active, and their rivalries and bickering can shape nations. The heroes are a cut above, blessed with special gifts and fates. There's plenty more (this is a 50-year-old game, after all), but these are the ones that have had the most done with them with D&D 5e.

The greatest thing about classes in ttrpgs, in my opinion, is that if you're tired of classic archetypes or you just want to spice it up, you can go ham reflavoring them. Hexblade warlock wielding a sentient piece of divinity? Easy, just come up with a reason for a diety ro invest into you, reflavor features and spells, done. A bored barkeeper, lazily cleaning glasses, who enjoys quiet atmosphere in his bar, because he is famous for pummeling faces into the ground, if somebody makes a ruckus, because that furniture is F-ing expensive. Here's your monk. Some shady past sprinkled on top, you got shadow monk. I love messing with core identity of classes, it makes each character truly mine, and therefore much more memorable and interesting to rp.

My thing with clerics and healing is that no they do not NEED to be the dedicated healer of the party but they are literally THE BEST class in the game at it, they get the best healing and protective spells in the game so playing a cleric and going "eeeew no I don't wanna heal" is fine but it's annoying sometimes when every other character in the party isn't a healer (I dmed for a party like this and the disappointment when someone got downed and was met with "I cast spare the dying" even though the cleric had slots available was palpable and clerics healing and bringing back the dead is part of the fantasy for almost every subclass anyway. TLDR: clerics not healing is fine but sometimes it can be a little ridiculous
@calronkeltaran493
@calronkeltaran493 Жыл бұрын
for me it depends on how the players handle certain situations. not even healing if you could stabalize someone is certainly cruel except if you would end the fight in the next 1-2 rounds and patch him up later. DnD and PF has a history of "killing/CCing someone is the better healing" and this remains to be true afaik. so when I decide to cast a cure spell or a CC spell, the later one will almost always be the right coice unless I can literaly save someone from (almost) certain death or it is the fastest way to get him back into a fight. then there is the other thing, if a player thinks he can leeroy into every fight because someone else plays a cleric and suddenly strategic fighting is out of the window because there is a healer around. as a classic ex wow player, I developed a habbit to let those players get clobbed down, so they will learn for later events

I love this video. It eases someone into the classes smoothly. - Though I'd have paired Constantine with the cleric class personally. And Iron Man is a good fit for the artificer, if you've ever read the comic where different multiverses in the marvel comics universe merge Iron Hammer is a total fit for it.

A great "Jack of All Trades" class in d20 D&D 3.5 was the Factotum class [from "Dungeonscape" rulebook] that received high skillpoints, had access to all skills as class skills, and had special abilities called "Inspiration" (which gave you a limited number of very versatile "hero points" you could use _every scene!),_ "Cunning Insight" and "Cunning Knowledge", and "Arcane Dilettante" (which allowed the Factotum to emulate a limited number of low-level arcane spells from the Wizard/Sorcerer spell list per day without being an actual spellcaster). -- There was also the "Swashbuckler" class from "Complete Warrior" rulebook which mixed the Bard's penchant for fancy rapier fencing and the Rogue's acrobatics.

I really like the video. And i have a question ¿Would you consider doing a video ok the Mystic? Including your personal thoughts and how would you balance some of it or maybe ¿some tips on homebrewing ?

Assuming you mean the MCDM Mystic? It takes me a while to make these videos so I'm holding off until the Mystic is finalized and officially published - otherwise, by the time the video comes out, they could be on their second or third revision. Once it's out, I want to do a video about the three MCDM classes, since they're also pretty popular and worth discussing.

I'm 45 yeas old and I have been playing D&D since I was 10 years old and my first character was a fighter. She was really cool too. Since then, I have played a druid, a sorcerer, a bard, a monk, and the most recent character I have created but have yet to play is a fighter sort of based on the very first character that I ever played, but since that was 35 years ago, I don't really remember what that first character was like. I can't wait to play her again. She is ready to go when I can find a group to play with again. Anyway, this video was great for information on classes. To be fair, I never really thought of the classes the way you described them here.

3:54 I like to separate the classes (the things your PC knows how to do) from the default fluff normally associated to them. For example the bard I'm playing right now is a Barbarian with Entertainer background and some INT and CHA; that is, he's literally a bard (a storyteller, diplomat, teacher, historian, genealogist and musician) who also happens to be a burly dude that carries a big sword and fights unarmoured.

while i'm glad tasha's allowed the ranger to take Find Familiar as their animal companion, i do wish that rangers had the single caveat to make their familiar a medium--and eventually, large--creature. cause the main fantasy of the ranger is pokemon, so i feel like it would only be appropriate for the ranger's familiar to grow in power/size as the ranger grows in ability. plus i think it would allow for some pretty awesome, funny, and wholesome moments between PC and their companion, without constantly having to replace said companion. ranger just needs work. i still love them though.

I love the lore on all classes, but the only class I love to play is Wizard, it's always Wizard.

i think a better descriptor for a cleric, would be a battle medic; doctor or healer bag in one hand, weapon of choice in the other, and very much motivated to heal wounds in their comrades, and/or-also put wounds into the enemy.

I'm probably showing my age here, but for the Blood Hunter, another example might be the vampire hunter Blade "the Daywalker", the titular protagonist from the _Blade_ comics and movies (from the 1990s) who himself is a dhampyr, a half-vampire born from a mother who was bitten by a vampire while pregnant. While he makes extensive use of gadgets and weapons (similar to Batman), he also has some limited magic powers similar to those of vampires, like superstrength, speed, renegeration of wounds and the ability to see in the dark, and he can enhance that by drinking blood, although he is otherwise a living breathing human without the vulnerabilities of vampires to sunlight and silver.

The PHB covers Bardic Colleges pretty well as matter of culture and loose gatherings of Bards sharing skills and information, not as an actual academy, and lays out that the Paladins are expected to be Lawful Good, but can be Lawful Evil.

I feel you on "the next time I get a chance to be a player in a DnD game..." I love DMing and making homebrew campaigns, writing interesting plots and the satisfaction I get when I see my players surprise when I introduce a plot twist or scratch their heads trying to figure out a mystery or solve a puzzle and the recognition when they are impressed by how much work went into building the world they play in or making each NPC they talk to have depth and a unique personality. On the other hand though, there are so many character ideas I have just bursting from my brain that I know would be so much fun to play...but I'm the forever DM...lol. I have been playing DnD for about 2 years now and have written and DMed two, 5-act homebrew campaigns and DMed Curse of Strahd. The one and only time I have gotten to be a player it was for Wild Beyond the Witchlight that my wife DMed. I had a Changeling character named Nyx, multiclass Rogue/Druid that was a little bit MCU Loki, a little bit Peter Pan, a little bit the Faceless Man from Game of Thrones. He was born to a noble family and his mother was a Changeling and always cautioned him to never reveal that he was a Changeling becaue people wouldn't accept him. He stumbled into the fey realms as a child where they did accept him and he spent years there. When he finally left he forgot most of his time there but he dreams about it. Eventually the townspeople discovered he was a Changeling and ran him out of town and he has spent years living on the streets, avoiding cities and making a living under several assumed fabricated identities that live lives on both sides of the law. He despises authority, especially those who abuse their authority and goes out of his way to con and dupe the rich and powerful. His ultimate goal is to find a way back to the fey realm, where he can be himself and be accepted for who he is, and where he hopes to become an archfey of his own realm- his "glorious purpose." Problem is, we barely made it past Hither before my wife got frustrated with DMing and we never finished the campaign. Nyx never got to achieve his "glorious purpose". I guess he ended up a little more like Loki than I thought he would be.

The cleric thing I get. We had a large group I play with and had a dispute when two different players chose to be healers. That is, until I asked one of them if they intended to play a more combat healer which they confirmed. I only asked one because I was part of the early construction of their build so I was aware they were intending to focus on healing and helping the part in non combative ways (peace cleric). The other was playing a more punk like character which is why I felt fairly confident they weren’t going for that same vibe. The other players outside of all of this didn’t pick up on any of this and it had to be me to point it out. That settled things down and the punk cleric said they did intend to be a supplementary healer as needed but they definitely wanted to front line some. Considering I play a monk on that campaign, I was more than welcoming of it. Actually both cleric were written into my backstory by the time session 0 ended and before session 1 began, with dm approval even. So I like to joke I collected all the clerics. It’s been a fun run with the rp sessions so far and we have had some fun dynamics with the other players now that expectations are properly corrected and understood. It’s a large group so it’s a bit chaotic but we do make a point of all being patient with each other and keeping up communication between sessions and curating wants and expectations and correcting misunderstandings as they crop up. The entire campaign is tailored for antics and hijinks though so we all thrive off it. Actually, to be honest, it’s most often me who plays supplementary healer. I’m often the one who thinks to buy a healer’s kit and I find someway to taking healing spells, like the feat like gift of the metallic dragon, a cleric dip , go with divine warlock, or I just play a ranger (usually I main a ranger). Since I’m usually bouncing around the battle map this usually is a good fit for me. My monk for the mentioned in the campaign above is probably my first character more on the frontlines and less ranged combat than I usually play. I am contemplating playing a druid sometime with a focus on battle field control and healing though. But not just yet. Too many campaigns for now and don’t want to add more at the moment (ok I want to add more but I don’t have the time or energy for that level of commitment and that isn’t fair to the games I play already, so no more new games allowed).

Got a new subscriber off the og Daredevil movie reference. Everyone knows Hollywood should’ve packed it in after that one. They made not just the best martial arts film, but the best film in general. Everything we’ve made since has just been an attempt at riding that high
