I bought a pre-built Corne keyboard and it was my first ergonomic keyboard. I saw some reviews that other ergonomic keyboards were better but, since I have small hands, I decided to go for it. It took me a while to get used to but I finally found a key setup that sitted with me and it’s been a blast so far. I don’t regret it one bit. Downside though is that it was quite expensive and I think I can’t really switch keys since it’s pre-built. Overall it’s pretty good.

I am using a corne keyboard for nearly 3 years. A wired version, the wireless and battery stuff is more an inconvenience in my opinion. Anyway, it totally ended my shoulder pain which I suspect was due to the mouse being too far away when using a keyboard with numpad. The mouse is very much used when doing 3D stuff (CAD, modeling, animation, ...). Also it improved my speed, productivity and comfort. Definitely the best keyboard I ever had by far.

Nice, thanks for this nice reply. For sure, it is amazing. At home I also use it wired, I am glad that I have both options in this. On the go, wireless is a bit nicer :) It is for sure amazing. Most lovely is the arrow keys on homerow as well as in vim :D (for me at least :D )

@@CodingWithAuryn Thank you. Actually I spend most of my work time in neovim (developing some 3D related app and plugins) and have the arrow keys mapped to hjkl like expected, but also to wasd for using/testing the 3D stuff.

another 2-years old convert here. built the low-profile and the classic but i prefer the classic with no displays/leds + rp2040.

The Corne is a neat KB with a few optional features and mods. If you want to do your own soldering, it's a decent project that can save you a chunk of money for good keys and can be setup for Choc sockets if you want instead of Cherry. I love the trick of using a ball bearing melted into the keycap, very metal.

Thanks a lot. I soldered it as well :) Was a nice project and will probably also mod it further. Maybe some day I add leds 😅

@@CodingWithAuryn Depending on which version of the pcb you have it can be a little tedious or fairly easy on newer versions. They eat quite a bit of battery I hear unless you get a case that lets you fit a bigger battery. Without lights I hear those go workdays without charging. Mine is a wired version. Corne is popular so it has some options out there to make it unique.

Ah! Finally a good source for the parts in germany 🤗 How is your experience with a german layout (with öäü) on the corne?
@CodingWithAuryn
@CodingWithAuryn 5 ай бұрын
Thank you :) Quite well, I use the us layout anyways on my Mac all the time, so I am used to hit Crtl + u and then the letter a e o u 😅 So works for me :)

Great video! Very informative and I really enjoy your phasing and calmness. You earned yourself a new subscriber :) . I haven't tried this myself, but I had an idea/tip for people running into the problem @ 2:29 : As an alternative to the metal ball solution, you can also create a small bump by putting a small dot (or line) of superglue the keycaps. Make sure to clean the surface beforehand and let the glue dry well. It might wear out after a while and it could damage the keycap, but if it does you could always replace the glue, do the metal ball method anyway or simply replace the keycaps with caps with actual finger guides. The metal ball solution is way cleaner (and more creative!) in my opinion, but the superglue solution is a more accessible and easy to do if you need a quick solution. :)

Thanks a lot for your idea. Yes, this was also my first try, unfortunately the hot glue I used did not stick and I had no super glue at this time. So the metal ball worked best for me. But for sure an gut alternative :) thank you for your subscription as well :) Have a great time!

How tall did you place the nice nano in order to fit the battery under it? Would a 5mm tall battery fit without the displays installed?
@CodingWithAuryn
@CodingWithAuryn 6 ай бұрын
Hey Did you mean 5mm height? I just added wire in flexible length, so you can just mount it as high as needed for the battery :) In my case I just put the battery in place and put the wires afterwards in :) Hope this helps? Also one note to add after nearly a month, at home I just use it wired. Only while travelling I use the batteries. They hold with display like 2-3 days. I also thought about removing the display. The benefit is low tbh. Just the connected device is interesting.

@@CodingWithAuryn I am trying to figure out if a 501235 battery would fit under the controller. Regarding the battery life - I assume you use an OLED display? These are battery hungry, check out the nice views displays which barely consume any battery life if you really need a display.
@CodingWithAuryn
@CodingWithAuryn 6 ай бұрын
Hey Thanks for your message, no idea why I didn’t see it yet So I measured with my corne and they could fit yes. But if you do a low profile build the display will be higher than the keys :) Yes I use the oled. And also read they consume way more energy, but there one cost 6€ and not 25€ like the nice view. I don’t need the display that much, I may upgrade at some point :)

I have had my Corne (wired) for a couple years, but I still haven't been able to start using it yet. My desired layout requires tapdance, and I just can't work out how to install Vial or do tapdance through QMK. Very tricky for non-software types. If you ever do experiment with tapdance, please document how you did it in detail 😅
@CodingWithAuryn
@CodingWithAuryn 4 ай бұрын
Hey, thank you for your response. I have no experience with tapdance or vial, sorry. Also i am using zmk because i use it as bluetooth board. What i am thinking about is still adding the hold modifiers for shift or others on long press. But all in all i am very happy with my current configuration. :)
