The long run is the most crucial component of any distance runner's training plan. Some people like running them fast, while others like running them slow. Regardless of your category, the long run plays a vital role in your training by improving your endurance, focus, and strength. In today's video, we hit a fast long run with some of the nation's best runners.

I always prefer more uptempo long runs, just as you said it gets the body used to working harder over the long distances. For half and full marathon training this was a game changer for me. Great content, keep it up!

These videos provide only the best of vibes as always, such a joy to watch, especially as I can’t run because of injury. Faster Long runs are by far the best part of the week, keep em comin’ 😊🤘 Also how different is the impact on running dirt trails vs pavement?

Hey man, I'm a high school kid who is pretty slow, one of those guys that has to walk up hills to stay in zone 2. Do you have any input as to whether I should have 2 hard days and a long run per week, or just 1 hard day and a long run to improve this summer. All the other days except Sunday are easy zone 2 runs BTW. Thanks

hey brock i totally get what your saying about how doing a faster long run is beneficial. as a general rule of thumb should theses runs feel hard but manageable at the same time?
@TheBrockKelly
@TheBrockKelly 29 күн бұрын
Yeah! The way I like to do it is by easing off into them. So if I’m going for 15 miles (like in this video) then I’ll do the first 3 miles at a comfortable pace before cutting down to a moderate pace. That moderate pace is kind of like a long tempo. It’s not an easy run pace, but it’s not a race. It’s a controlled, long, uptempo effort. You’ll know when you find the sweet spot. But for starters, just run them faster than you are now and see where it takes you. If your body doesn’t respond well after a few weeks, then pull off the gas and go back to how you were doing them before. Hope this helps!

What type of intra run fueling did you incorporate for this type of run (effort and duration)? Gels, electrolytes, etc. or did you prehydrate enough for it?
@TheBrockKelly
@TheBrockKelly 28 күн бұрын
Took some G1M sport from BPN before this run, then snagged some more at mile 10. G1M is a carbohydrate drink mix with electrolytes that’s perfect for those long efforts in the summer.

New Balance 1080s! They are great! But I've been rocking the Brooks Glycerin lately, and I can honestly say that they are one of the best shoes I've run in in a very long time.

@@TheBrockKellywhat shoes would you recommend me do for my faster paced long runs like this one and workout days? I currently wear some Asics Kayanos for daily trainers and the Asics Magic Speed 3 (carbon plated) for races. @@TheBrockKelly okay cool! Yeah trying this on myself and athletes I coach! Haven’t had much experience of fast long runs but will be adding progressive speed into the programming. I see there is benefits of a callous mind for knowing you can push for long. So just shared this video with the kids! Keep up the good work bro. Pray the best for your season!
@TheBrockKelly
@TheBrockKelly 26 күн бұрын
@@user-oo1sc8ij9j thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. In my opinion, the summer should be fun and low stress. When I do the tempo or threshold work each week, it’s designed in a way where I’m building up my aerobic base and setting the stage for big and fast anaerobic and neuromuscular workouts later in the season. I try to expand the size of that base the best that I can in the summer with easy mileage, long runs, and tempos, but by the time late September and October roll around, we’re crushing workouts that are at race pace or faster which allows us to progress throughout the season. Just some of my thoughts on training that you definitely didn’t ask for hahaha. But figured I’d break it down
