At some point in most professions of this caliber the person driving or playing the sport is basically an imperfect AI, and can often outpace what we think is possible just through repetition. It is the same thing as hitting a 100mph baseball, physics wise it is a tall task to ask your brain to make decisions at that speed, and for the average person their reaction is slower than the time it takes the ball to get to the plate. But we see time and time again it is not only possible to hit 100mph balls, we can hit dingers off of it. Thank you for your tidbit about the perfect lap!

You also have to remember how low those cars sit and the tires they use and the insane suspension they have. In mountain biking our reps always said a full suspension bike is similar to an F1 car, in that it's always trying to keep your tires engaged with the ground. That makes it more efficient and ergo, you go faster.

@@paulmurphy8549 That’s quick isn’t Paul. You just reminded me. Somewhere there is a video of Martin Brundle comparing his personal road car at the time, a Ferrari Maranello to an F1 car by doing a 0 To 100 to 0 test. I can’t remember now which F1 car was used. It was broadcast on British TV, but I don’t know what program it was. It could have been a segment filmed for a piece before an F1 race, in the early days of his commentating with Murray Walker The V12 Maranello at the time (90s) was one of the quickest road cars you could buy. The F1 car made it look cumbersome and slow. When I watched that, all those years ago, that’s when I realised how serious and focused an F1 car was. Sorry that my memory is hazy, but I think the F1 car got to 100 and stopped again before the Ferrari Marinello got to 100.

@tylerdurden3722
@tylerdurden3722 11 ай бұрын
@@benjaminfroussos7466A lot of it also comes from thermal efficiency. In other words, how much of the energy in the fuel is converted to mechanical energy. The average engine's thermal efficiency was 18.6% (it's probably a little higher now). The current world records for thermal efficiency is held by F1 cars @ just over 50%. So if a regular engine with 25% thermal efficiency that produces 200hp had it's efficiency doubled, the power extracted from feul doubles to 400hp as well. Also, after that 18.6% and after all the inefficiencies of the rest of the drive train, only 6% of the energy in the fuel actually makes it to the wheels. F1 cars are efficient in that way as well. A lot more of the energy in the fuel makes it to the wheels.

Just think of how small you can make a starting field if you had micro engineered engines, computer traction control, 4 tire types, a carbon fiber micro aero engineered body/chassis and then pay a pilot $50 million a year to fly it. You could easily whittle the starting field from 34 down to 10. We understand very well you are comparing a motorsport that was birthed by a bunch of backwoods moonshiners in the southern USA to an elitist Eurotrash motorsport 😉 ....kinda like apples to oranges heh. ....I am in Canada so the F1 race is on in the mornings which I use as filler before the Cup race later in the day. You see how meticulous they are even with just one singular bolt and then you apply that to the whole car, the whole team and factory and it’s actually mind boggling. little fact for you. The components are built in such a way that the expansion in the heat is taken into account and the car needs the heat so that the parts fit precisely. You must always have the car at high temperatures. When it cools down, the motor doesn't work properly and stops immediately because gaps appear because the material isn't expanded enough^^ Therefore, if you are ever in a car like this, always accelerate and drive fast.
