There is no property tax in the UK. There is a council tax and its cheap and also you get a 25% discount if single. UK has not property tax to pay yearly like the USA has

Hi there, thank you for your comment. Yes, property tax is the USA wording, but council tax was spoken about in that section of the presentation. Council tax in the UK varies depending on the band and your circumstances. In a year it can easily reach into the thousands whereas it's in the low hundreds in Portugal. You can also post questions and comments in our community forum over on our website www.expatsportugal.com/community/ All the best from the Expats Portugal team 🙂

I was wondering if transferring taxable assets to children will reduce taxes paid to Portugal assuming the children are in USA
@ExpatsPortugalCommunity8 ай бұрын
Hi jianbai888, there is a double tax treaty in place between the USA and Portugal. So for example if for example the tax due in the USA was 20% and 25% in Portugal, you would pay the difference of 5% on the taxable amount in Portugal. It is always best to speak to a professional regarding tax matters. There are so many variables, you will only get the full picture and work out the best tax efficiency with those that can analyse your personal situation in full detail. You can find recommended English-speaking advisors that understand tax in Portugal for foreigners in our directory - expatsportugal.com/business-directory-2/ Please come over to forum where you can search for information and ask questions in more detail - expatsportugal.com/community/

Yeah, but isn't all that savings, now negated by the dissolving of the NHR? If an American has to pay 45% tax on as little as 40 thousand dollars. Then the monies saved via cheaper healthcare get negated. No?
@ExpatsPortugalCommunity8 ай бұрын
you don't need to pay 45% tax on an income of $40K. The highest income tax bracket of 48% only takes effect on any income over €80K. It is a tiered system on anything under that.

WOA, property taxes in the US are not 4k a year. I'm paying 1300 a month. Don't know anyone who pays 4k a year unless they live in a garage.

Mine is a little less than 4k a year! Nevada
