I loved this discussion. It was very motivating for me, an aspiring costume designer. I had no idea who these designers where but Julie Weiss did stand out of course. At first I was annoyed by her yammering but the more I listened to her the more I realized that she is a women after my own heart. She is passionate about what she does and she can't help but share her experience and what she knows. I understand how it feels to be totally bewitched by the creative process.

Two-time nominee Julie Weiss (Hitchcock) seizes the conversation as Grand Dame of the Costumers--perhaps mindful that her former assistant, Colleen Atwood, has been nominated nine times and won three--but mellows at the end as recognition flows towards her. She is the last of her kind, in a world where budgets demand everyone's last name end in "Inc." She has the last word: "But be fair in how you define beauty, because some people feel like a million bucks--and you'll walk right by them."

I LOVED this! I know it hasn't had a ton of views, but I wish that the HReporter would do another round table with the costume designers this year! Also, in regards to Julie Weiss - at first she grated on my nerves too, but as the other designers became more comfortable and started to open up more, and the conversation became more balanced, I then really liked and appreciated what she had to say. I think the problem early on was that other people were hesitant to talk, and she's not that type, and so it ended up being too much of her speaking. By the end, however, it became such an enjoyable interview - I loved hearing everyone's perspectives.

There's a difference between being an engaging conversationalist and just liking the sound of your own voice, and wasting peoples time by going off on your own sanctimonious, pious, tangents. The whole point of a conversation is that there are more than one party involved. You have to listen as well. I find Julie Weiss' inability to do so very disruptive to the whole interview.

+sam muirhead I wrote this above, but I thought I'd reply to you with it since you're comment was on the same thing. She is annoying af yet informative in this format; but you know what? She's the type of professional that one works with who redeems her flaws because she can overlook other's personal flaws bc she is obsessed with the job the characters the story and the actors. I'm sure every actor believes that they have an incredibly ally and feels completely confident with her on the job.

so grateful for this ... I aspire to be a costume designer.. currently taking fashion courses... Colleen Atwood is one of my Very Favorite costume Designer. Her artistry in Memoirs of a Geshia, S ow White and The Huntsman, and Alice in Wonderland... even Edward ScissorsHands invoke a sense of poetry and art into each character, every set, and memory I have of these films.

Such a great and inspirational interview! The interviewer asked some fantastic questions and seeing the designers' reactions to what certain members of the roundtable said was a nice comic relief LOL

Some of the interviewer's questions were positively cringe worthy ... I swooned at hearing Atwood's backstory. She's my costume design hero, and I had absolutely no idea until she told her story during this round table discussion.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y8pzp9eQmLqlaGg.htmlm29s Colleen says it all right here, and really alls out the interviewer on being sorely unprepared for this and how that is indeed quite insulting to talent of their caliber, but that's why I love Colleen ...

Julie is eccentric, the more I got into the interview the more endearing she became. I like that she seems to operate on a slightly different frequency. That's probably why she's been successful; being her authentic self and not trying to be 'normal' which I love

"We we we we we we we we " man you could replace all those self-indulgent "we's" with one giant "ME." And I can't follow any of her stories. She skips fifteen plot points and arrives at a conclusion and everyone else has to fill in the gaps.

The worst thing for good costume designer is a stupid director , a bad dop, aand a primadonna actor..wigs and mk up can also make the costume look bad! So production designer helps if they can see it and tell the producers and the director whats not right! But the drama behind the scene is things you remember🥰🤣😭
