I don't think the people who come up with those sorts of things are really looking for an answer, just to point out what they think is a plot hole. Most people don't even know what a plot hole is, they'll say they found a plot hole, and then just merely point out something they don't personally understand.

Nerdanel, Feanor's wife, was presumably a red head like her father, Mahtan. Mahtan studied under Aule & Mairon (Sauron) who i personally invision both as red heads. Maedros was also called Russandol, meaning copper topped.

@@John-Sierra Tolkien’s colored paintings show him with black boots while barrel riding and resting by the Eagle. His boots have a nice shine to them. They are both stunning works of art. I wouldn’t argue that they might have had custom boots made for them in Rivendell but more likely they own boots for out of town traveling (think Trodder from 1st drafts) or certain types of work like smithing. A fun rabbit hole dive into and I still draw my hobbits bear foot because that’s the way I have always envisioned them. And yes! His dwarves look like a little Father Christmas. I love his painting of Beleg. The only elf he ever painted. And has long black hair and pointed shoes but with no pointed ears visible. The painting is called “Fangorn” and is the key inspiration for my own elf drawings.
