I loved the ABC TV sitcom "What's Happening!!". The show had an extremely talented cast including Danielle Spencer who starred as Raj's little tattletale of a sister, Dee. Here is an update on her courageous life.

I loved loved LOVED this show growing up! I can't really choose a fave character, but who doesn't love Re-Run, right? So sad to hear that Danielle is facing so many challenges--and I know some smart-aleck is going to say "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". Sure, but come on; there has to be a moment when you can shout "ENOUGH!" Your tributes are so sweet and touching and heartfelt. You have this ability to make any actor seem like the guy next door. THAT is an amazing talent! Many blessings to you and her--always. P.s. I'm not sure if Dr. Danielle has seen your tribute to her, but I hope she does--if she is half the person we just saw, I know she'll be touched.

@Mad Planet Same God that brought her through it all. It takes all of our experiences in life to make us who we are. We live in a fallen world (which was well-depicted on the tv show we're talking about here.) Romans 8:28 (HCSB) " We know that all things work together[a] for the good[b] of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose." I don't know Dr. Spencer's beliefs, but it was very kind of Paul Blancato to pray a blessing over her.

Fred Berry was actually a member of a dance group called "The Lockers" prior to the sitcom. The Lockers were the de facto house dance group on Soul Train. He often did his Soul Train moves on the show. The Lockers were a forerunner to the dance moves used in the early days of hip hop.

From the moment the theme song would start, I knew I was in for a good time with the characters on What's Happening!! Thank you for this update on Dr. Danielle Spencer. Her portrayal of Dee was always so strong and confident - a girl being raised by a strong, confident Mama. Raj always wanted to do what was right, but he would be swayed now and then in the name of fixing a mistake he'd made. But Dee was the voice of truth and unwavering justice - especially when Mama was not home. While I loved and still treasure each character on the show, my favorite was Dwayne. Haywood Nelson's portrayal breathed life into the character of a teen boy - one moment cute and charming "Hey HAY hey!" the next moment very vulnerable and uncertain of himself, consulting with his friends on what to do next. As I wrote that, I realized that all of the characters did this same thing. They did it so well as a team that not one of them could effectively be omitted from the resulting solutions they found together within a 30 minute episode. Dwayne was just a cuddly-looking kid!! Can you tell I loved this tv show? Thanks again, Dave Sundstrom!

I love Dr. Spencer. She was the veterinarian for my dog Darby for many years. I also loved the character Dee, but had no idea the doctor was the actress who played her. Before I found Dr. Spencer, I had a very hard time finding a vet who truly loved animals.Eventually, I found Dr. Spencer and she was that individual who had enormous compassion and love for animals, and was an overall great person with whom to interact. Daniel Spencer is one of my favorite persons. It saddens me to hear of her health issues. I hope she soon makes a full recovery. If there is anyone who deserves good karma it is Dr. Spencer. 💙💙💙

Lol. Hip-Hop wasn’t yet invented when the Lockers started in the 70’s. It was a dance group known for their popping and locking. Then popping and locking evolved into breakdancing (techno funk music) which was early Rap and than Hip Hop was started.

@@Monorail-Beyond-the-Veil yes, just checked. It was a 1984 episode of Alice he played Bobo. I will have to check that out. I didn't know Alice was still on until 1984. I guess they wanted more urban dance culture? that was the pop culture of the time.
