Throughout all their years together & family experiences, The Cowsills have to be recognized, admired & completely appreciated for still doing what they're doing. I've been a fan since the 60's & was fortunate to see them 2 years ago in Tarrytown NY. Watching them like this warms my heart so much. Something tells me they're loving their togetherness more now than ever before. Long live The Cowsills !

If you follow their story, you see phenomenal success and the depths of despair all played out. With all they have endured, the remaining four members -- Bob, Paul, John and Susan -- present positive family relationships. It's a true testament to surviving life's adversity and embracing what truly matters. I can't get enough of watching these videos. And I have downloaded many of their songs in my phone to listen to for a quick pick-me-up. Love these people!

I've been in the music industry for almost 30 years and the Cowsills are one of the few on my bucket list. (I've been to or worked about 10.000 concerts) Being a body guard I've had the chance to work almost every indoor and outdoor venue in New England. In June I will finally get to cross the Cowsills off my list. I had the chance to talk to John when he was with the Beach Boys and realized how awesome this family was. Not to mention I am a Rhode Islander as well.

Lucky for me as a German teenager who spent his holidays in Noord-Holland in the 60s and soaked up the American Top 100 on the beach, broadcast by the pirates Radio Caroline, London, Veronica etc... a ride on the clouds in the sky! Actually, to this day, "The rain, the park and other things" is one of my top summer songs! Unknown in Germany then until today, strange!

I was just a teenager when I saw The Cowsills in concert in Akron, Ohio in 1969, and again in their "hometown" concert in Canton, Ohio, in 1970. God, Susan was just a child! I have always had a special affection for the family; Paul was in my third grade class at St. Joseph parochial school in Canton when they lived there in the 50s and early 60s. My family and theirs attended the same Catholic church, and had a mutual acquaintance. To the best of my recollection, Bud and Barbara may have participated in bridge parties hosted by my parents in the family living room. Barbara volunteered in the cafeteria at St. Joseph's, and when I met her at the 1970 Canton concert she immediately recognized me; "My God! You're Bernie Toohey's boy,!" and we reminisced about serving glazed donuts and chocolate milk in the cafeteria. The Cowsills were the best live band I have ever seen; and their Beatles covers were impeccable. I will never forget Bill performing "Michelle" solo on the Gretsch Country Gentleman in Canton. Unfortunately, very little footage of the original 60s Cowsills exists. But they are etched indelibly in my memory and in my record collection. Safe passage Bill, Barry, Mini-mom Barbara, and Bud.

Mark Toohey Richard has departed this realm also. Thankfully, he was able to join the band in the latter years, and in their 'Billy Cowsill Tribute Concert' which was beyond fantastic. Richard's participation was long overdue. The Cowsill Family sets musical standards that few can equal, much less exceed! "I pray that the departed are all together on Heaven's Golden Shore, where every day is glorious and there is only peace and joy forevermore." Thanks for sharing your great memories of the Cowsill Family Mark!
@marktoohey7046
@marktoohey7046 5 жыл бұрын
@@kathykay2010 Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I am aware that Richard has also departed the band. I have recently viewed the documentary "Family Band: The Cowsills" by Louise Palanker (available on Amazon); it is a "must see" for any Cowsill fan. Filmed in 2004 when Barry and Richard were still with us. The documentary strikingly reveals the horrendous physical abuse the family (especially Richard) endured at the hand of their out-of-control, crazed, drunken father, Bud. It is hard to believe that those kids survived the beatings, the bruises and the welts that remained hidden beneath their finely tailored suits as they took the stage to sing their "happy, happy, HAPPY" music! Richard reveals that he was the most frequently beaten and bloodied by a father that totally rejected him from the band and the family. Bud ordered him to join the military; and you did not question Bud. You did as you were told. Richard did three tours in Vietnam and came home a heroin addict. He also had ADHD, which made him the more frequent target of Bud's drunken wrath. The Cowsills are a story of success and tragedy. Thankfully, Bud is dead, and the remaining siblings have retained their sanity, and live to carry on the musical legacy of the original American Family Band.

Thank you so much Cindy! I can't say how happy I am that not only were these guys playing (and sounding AMAZING) 3 days before my 59th birthday, but that their harmonies are as beautiful as they've always been. There's another video of them singing Rain, Park, etc at the Billy Cowsill Benefit Concert that I shared on my FB page because I was incredulous at how good they still sounded, but to know that just a few months ago they were still touring and still sounding this good fills me with joy. I hope they're still touring and having as much fun as they're having here. I know a lot of people say their songs are lightweight, etc, but NO ONE gets between me and my music! I like what I like and love what I love. My tastes are all over the place and this family and their music bring me joy, so God bless them all and may they continue to spread the love. Woah woah woah - The Boxer? I can't even... Just beyond Has Paul heard this? I think it would sit him right down and drop his jaw.

I so wish they would have done their song "Gray Sunny Day." It's so good. I believe it was written by Tony Romeo, the man behind a lot of the Partridge Family songs. Maybe not so ironically, "Gray Sunny Day" is the most "Patridge-like" song the Cowsills ever did.
