A saw could actually be used to carve wood blocks into stairs or fences, the way a stonecutter carves into stone, except its in your inventory as an item.

If mojang actually adds a saw, the only way it could work is a way to customise wooden blocks, so you could carve out 1/8th chunks at a time, so you could make stairs, slabs, vertical slabs, and it would have potential for a lot more detail and something everyone would want ( but mojang would never add this because they barely ever listen to the community )

I feel like the saw could be used for crafting like wood stairs more efficiently. Or maybe it would be use to fall trees like in many mods, that would be useful.

I think an interesting function would be if you mine wood with a saw, all of the leaves dependent on that wood would disappear, dropping everything instantly.

SO. My theory is a Vertical Slab. You can make the saw out of different ingots for the stone slabs, and iron one for blocks. It will give you one normal slab, and the block will become a vertical slab.

Being able to chop a tree and have it fall would be great for clearing larger trees since you wouldn't need to pillar up to make sure you get all the logs

You could use the saw to make vertical slabs; also 1:1 recipe, wooden stairs like stone stairs have, with the stone cutter.

Saw could be an interesting way to introduce a mechanic like the timber mod, so using a saw in game cutting a block would take a while but it’d cut the whole tree down at once

How I would add the saw to Minecraft: - Craft it like a sword but the stick at the top and 2 iron ingots at the bottom. - Holding the saw and right clicking on a block will chisel off 1/8th of that block. For example, if I right click on one of the top corner of oak planks, it’s removed and it will look like a corner stair block. Similarly to how cheese blocks were eaten in last years April fools update

Honestly, that would be a nice addition because whenever you need to cut down a tree in the late game, you can just use the saw and chop down the tree and mine all of the pieces of wood that are hard to reach!

Something like a carpenter's table would be good, essentially the same as the stone cutter but for wood, we could finally make stairs efficiently.

If a "saw" were to be added, I'd imagine it like the buzzsaws from the Create mod where you could automate cutting down trees and have a sawmill. Although, on one hand we can already create a sawmill of sorts with TNT duping and some pistons, but it's not automated, just assisted. Or, for a much simpler suggestion.... A woodcutter. I've been wanting one for ages, as the stonecutter can save a lot of stone materials. If for a hand held tool, we can just make saws auto-destroy trees like how mods do. Where if you break 1 block with it, it'd take down everything. This would be less effective in combat than an axe and a sword, but an axe on another hand would be more flexible in it's purpose. The detection of what a whole tree should not be a problem, as vanilla has leaves dissapear if they think the tree's logs are gone.

If a tree is sawed, it should render all wood above the saw line as items. Like kelp does when u break it. Put a saw into a dispenser to make it Redstone-able. Tree farms would be simpler.
