Cumbersome you feel my pain? Haha. To be honest, i feel like everyone can comment whatever they like. I don't take it personal if they write anything offending. I made these video's to share my personal experiences. Something to learn from. And everyone needs something to hate on from time to time. So in a certain way, i'm batman. Not the hero the people deserve. But the hero the people need

The Gentleman I think it's awesome that you actually tell everyone that you crashed and how it has hurt your wallet and whatnot because other ppl with high egos wouldnt upload something like that. Hey man, keep ignoring those others because at the end of the day I bet they've never been on a track.

Friendly advice for Lotus car owners... Before you go at Lotus dealers for some parts, you may want to take off that part, and go see either Toyota or Opel with the part in hand. Why? For instance, when I broke my flasher's stick on my 2000 elise, they sold me one for around 200 euros. About 2 weeks later, my company sent me on a few days trip with a renting car, which was an opel astra. I immediatly found the great ressemblance of the flasher's stick with the louts one that I just changed. So I took it apart, and compared the part numbers. Turned out they were the same. And had I known this, Opel sold the same thing for 32 euros... And the same goes on with mostly all of the parts of the car, save the body. Anything mechanical will probably come from toyota, and many inside parts will come from Opel (GM in the states). For the more recent models I cannot say exactly, but in the automotive world, know that most of these parts are done by third parties manufactures and not designed nor produce by car companies. So you WILL find it for much cheaper somewhere else. With the internet, if you google the part number, you'd be surprised how easy it is to find out where to get one real cheap, sometimes even from the manufacturer itself! Of course that goes not only for Lotus.

Buy a sacrificial front lip. When you scrape, it take the damage instead of the clam. It's saved mine many times.
@TheGentlemangrp

palindrome414 well it actually had a splitter on it when i bought it. But i scraped it too hard after only 2 weeks of ownership, and it managed to break and bend the front grill so hard, it actually exploded into pieces out of the mounting. I prefer the look of the elise without the splitter, but it looks fantastic on the more hardcore exige

the "counterfit" clams are typically considered to be inferior but prefect for an elise you use mainly on track since replacing them is expensive. When i had a cracked clam on my elise i took it to a fibreglass specialists who repaired it for 200.00 and it looked good as new.

As others have said, get chin guards or a spitter for the front clam, plus some kind of paint protection film. My splitter has saved the clam many times. Glad car is fixed and that you are heading back on track. Ps, did you get track day insurance?

Good to see you back up man. Keep at er! If you have a few euro to throw around, along with the instruction (or without) a cheap beater track car like a miata is also a good learning tool. Something that's quick and reliable, but not nice enough to worry about putting into a wall. Pulling a dent with a hammer in a miata - free.

I have done some track days but used the race club cars instead of my own. The problem you have highlighted - following the Porsche and the Porsche having better performance cornering capabilities etc - but what people forget is you need to take your town tyres off and put racing tyres on and set the cars suspension for track day events - for some performance cars that just a switch selection for others it means altering the suspension settings. anyway you didn't flip the car andyou walked away only with a slight neck ache - not bad. Good luck with the future the Lotus is a wonderful car - enjoy to the max :)

Hi, I don't know if you are aware, or that somebody has already mentioned but the crash probably wasn't your fault. The Elise has a problem that can arise with the rest tow link which can cause the attaching bolt to seize and break causing exactly what you experienced. I know that there is replacement tow links that are much stronger and will prevent this from happening to you again. In Australia, Simply Sports Cars have a very good replacement unit.

you did lose 10kg in the process 😉 Knowing now that the car is an easy target for full frontal (small) damage, have you ever considered putting protection foil at the front of the car? Also you state you want to keep the car original; does that mean also no full alloy radiator?

Glad its back and the cost of the repair its unbelievably good. Grab a spare set of tyres for the track AO48's or R888's. Them T1R's are good road tyres but really not great on track.

Please tell me those T1R's weren't on the car when you crashed? If they were, well...there's your reason for crashing right there. They are terrible tyres at the best of times, but on an Elise they are truly awful - comically soft sidewalls combined with budget-tyre grip levels are not fun in a mid-engine sports car. Do yourself a favour...buy a set of R888's or A048's and they will transform the car. Seriously.
@BarneyWobba
@BarneyWobba 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, some people like T1R's but I think they are ditch-finders. Hate them. R888r's and A048's...are awesome and a few others which are cheaper like R1R's and AD08's. I loved my R1R's int he dry...but not the wet. Couple of new track day ones look good but I've not tested yet. I had some track spec Nankangs as well and Vredesteins buuuut...the 'Kangs wore out really fast and the Vred's put me into an armco like you but in an M5.

Stigolas hi, yes I saw the crash and yes as he said he made a lot of novice mistakes that he on fixing. However those Toyos are dire, I had them on my Elise, the first few warm up laps were “ok”, then 2-3 Laps of “ok” but then they started to go off very quickly they became very unpredictable and prone to sudden spins like the one in the video. I moved to Yokohama’s that were immediately better. Definitely he has moved on since the accident but Yokohama ADO8s are my recommendation for a good wet/dry mix on an Elise as you need a predictable tyre even (especially) as a track novice.

Then smile a bit wider next time! Might shave of a euro or two here in there. Anyway, business is business. I already had a damage rapport at home from the front clam since i was planning to fix that anyway. And we managed to squeeze in both repairs with the painter at the same time. There is no way you would have to pay 4.5K for one body part. My front clam was in horrid condition and that costed me 2.5k max.

I'm abit shocked how much it cost. Nearly €5k just to fix a few suspension components seems excessive. I'd assumed it would cost that INCLUDING the body work, especially as you can get a full respray for less than €2k, the parts cost €900 ect. Try watching samcrac and tavarish vids, you will get the idea.

I bet it was a toe link that caused your crash to begin with. There are videos of this happening to others on KZfaq. Also many stories of people almost dying on LotusTalk.com. Lotus should have recalled these but never did. If this was a major car brand it would be a major story. I’d suggest someone considering one of these cars to proceed with caution.

It wasn't really "shredded" during the crash. Unnecessary exaggerating. It was damaged and cracked, not "shredded". Some of the best comments on the crash videos referred to the possibility of others getting hurt do to your mistakes so I hope you really think about those concerns and of coarse best of luck and safety to you as well.
