I think you just hit on the double 7 against an 8 instead of splitting. Assuming dealer has 18 you can end up with two 17's or you get low cards and your at risk of busting yourself twice if you get 5,6, or 7 puting you in busting range where that card would have been a nice addition to your 14.

the hand he split the 7's about 5 min in. if he didn't split, his hands from right to left would be 20, 20, 20, 19, 19, 21, 19. Dealer would've had 24. But it seems to have worked in the long run
