Jason Kidd, he used to be called Ason early on. Vince Carter also became a sniper later in his career maybe never a weak shooter but his range definitely improved a ton
@HoopVenue
@HoopVenue 4 ай бұрын
Kidd's a great call, I think Carter always had that shooting but because he was such an athletic phenom it didn't get talked about enough. Vince shot 41% from 3 on 5 attempts a game in his 3rd season!
@middlfingazup2446
@middlfingazup2446 4 ай бұрын
@@HoopVenue🎯🎯 Vince won the 3pt shootint and dunk contest in McDonald’s All-America Game though of course the line is shorter but Vince has always had a shot but it just goes to show how much athleticism and what he was doing attacking the rim could make people not see or forget he could shoot. On the flipside not debating the points but anyone can change their shooting like that but the most important part about shooting is the least stressed if even mentioned at all which is to shoot with confidence at all times while also believing you’re a shooter which of course aids in shooting with confidence. These players can knock J’s down doing reps but when it doesn’t translate it’s not that they can’t shoot. It’s not the lights cause they perform. It’s the mentality. These shooting coaches don’t stress the mentality. You can shoot 100k jumpers a day but if your mentality lacks in games it’ll show. Giannis, Russ don’t shoot with true conviction among others. Shooting cause you’re open, feel like taking a 3, feel dared, feel naysayers saying you can’t shoot can aid but not like, “I’m Money & This money all day” whether you make or miss and every single shot taken the mentality doesn’t waiver. In a summer Brooke Lopez became a 3pt shooter and while people say reps they’ll come back to mentality. Of course better form will aid anyone but there’s also shooters who don’t have textbook form but still are great shooter. This again attests to things mentioned but still lead back to mentality. You have to shoot with conviction not repetition. I’d have Giannis shootin’ the lights off because with his work I’m in his ear constantly. You’re supposed to wake up a shooter, eat, walk, talk, think, believe and so on as you go to sleep a shooter. But the thing that you mentioned that gets glossed over is that a Giannis is great without being a shooter but it gets scoffed at cause he takes them from time to time and in general when someone can’t knock them down but take them. You can’t make then in a game unless you take them. Relying on it is a different thing because there’s being 3pt shooter and being a shooter which means 3 level shooter not to mention anyone who tightens up their mid-range game will have a more seamless transition to being a 3pt shooter. A corner 3pt shooter can never be one of the best 3pt shooters just one of the best corner 3 shooters. No one ever says “all 3pt shots made are not created equally” but they’re not except for being three points. We want high percentages, good percentages but each game that stuff doesn’t matter. Yes, you pay more attention on D to shooters but if a dude shooting 29% from 3 hits 6-11 in the game what did that % mean that game? Giannis, AD and others bring things to the table that while 40% from 3 would be 👀 but they just need to be around 33% if that cause they do so much more besides shoot 3’s. Honestly, you really just need to be able to punish open looks, hit timely ones when needed, maintain being a threat from 3 which opens up their game more. Ben Simmons returns to his game shoots 30%-33% and can punidh open looks he becomes way more dangerous while people focus on the % and say why shoot but then if he doesn’t shoot any he gets dogged for that too lol. Now if all you do is shoot 3’s then yes you better hit near or at 40%. Dillon Brooks with his defensive intensity and D doesn’t need to shoot a high or even good %. No one specifically but people focus too much on what’s not being done over what a player is actually bringing to the table. Off subject, but I was telling people weeks ago Shaq & Barkley, everyone else ragging on Zion’s weight are trippin’ hard. One, he didn’t have problems with health until that nike shoe exploded on him but can’t bite the hand…. Yes, he could be in better shape but people taking like he’s averaging 7/3/3. If I’m a coach and they tell me a guy who knows how to play with that athletic ability can get me 20+/5/5 but he’s outta’ shape. I say I don’t care what he’s outta’ and we can work with him. Part of why Jokic gets looked at as being better is based on shooting though best shooter doesn’t mean best player. Now Jokic as a better offensive weapon as far as shooting okay as they’re both offensive weapons but Giannis is the better basketball player with no question but point being which the nba knows is shooting can get some people to overlook other components of the game though that’s not truly justifiable in real hoop. Defense is by far the harder side of the ball to be elite, very good, even good. Effort, knowing, where to be are the bare minimum but you can give a green light to just about anybody on the squad and you’re getting 20-25+ regardless how but you can’t give a green light to go be elite or very good on D. I had to add my reasoning and couldn’t just say Giannis is a better basketball player than Jokic

As a Kings fan I've watched Fox practically his whole career. When he was drafted he was basically a really fast and good slasher & finisher to the rim. His mid range was ok with his 3pt, playmaking, and defense being alright or whatever. But being young everything showed great signs of development & improvement which I've watched him get better at year by year where his mid range would become an important part of his game to nowadays his 3pt and defense becoming good. Fox literally elevated his game slowly level by level, year by year in every category and he has became a great player. I wonder if it was all him or the development from the kings tho lol (probably both). This also gives me great signs for Keegan Murray whos already a great 3pt shooter and has flashes of a great defender. I can only imagine how insane he would be if he could develop more opportunities around the rim like his playmaking, midrange, slashing or rebounding. With the way Fox turned out and the abilities Murray shows already I don't see why Murray can't become a star in this league.
@kyoukai8596
@kyoukai8596 4 ай бұрын
Especially with how fox has been training him. Keegan is in the best situation for his development. I believe that in most other teams he wouldn't be half the players he's shaping to be. With the way mike Brown and even the fans are always supportive of him even when he plays bad I genuinely can't see him not being atleast a 20ppg 5ast and 7 reb kinda guy
@Weather_Nerd

He shot like 37-38% for a lot of last season too, but he for sure looks waaay more confident this season. Like a whole new man from that range (though his clutch % I believe was pretty solid on the season last year, maybe fourth qt in general). It's here to stay. 36% minumum. As for FT, he shot 79-80% much of last season before a dip as well. I think it's focus and/or overthinking it. Seen him go 12/13 in games, many games above 80-90 on volume. Needs to slow down and keep his usual form, he could easily shoot > 80% FT. Anyway, always nice to see people actually recognizing Kings players. Domas is playing out of his mind too and we hear just about nothing.
@shawn9210
@shawn9210 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, last year he would have stretches of good percentages, but the confidence of taking the three is what stands out. This video puts stats on what the eye test has been saying. It was the same with Fox's midrange; he would have good percentages for stretches early on, but last year was when it went to "this is not only automatic, but Fox KNOWS it's automatic." That level of confidence hits different and changes how the defense plays you.

It was only a matter of time til he figured it out. He was a great shooter in high school with games where he hit 10 threes. I know the high school 3pt line is shorter but there were reason to believe some of it would translate. Lets just hope he can stay consistent with it.

Great video! Fox has improved in everything but the free throws which is kind of concerning. It is clear working on his three point shot was the focus in the off season, I hope that he works on his free throws and in watching him when he shoots them it looks to me like he is just rushing the free throw shot instead of focusing on his techinque so hopefully this can be an easy fix. Also, Fox has improved his defense this year which makes him a true 2-way player. Crazy how no one really gives De'Aaron credit or talks about him much and instead the focus is on Haliburton and that is possibly because of the Kings in general. But keep up the good vids!

Would like to see a couple more pull up shots in transition since everyone is expecting him to drive in those situations which could lead to more separation.

Good vid but I thought you should've pointed out the sacrifice with the dropoff in the midrange specifically the 16-22 area that he's been awful this year. You'd think his overall FG% would be up shooting by far a career high from 3 by a lot in by both volume & % but he's not. I'm more than a little concerned about the FT shooting especially since Sabonis has never been great and has been bad from the stripe this year. Can't have your two main ball handlers be nowhere close to 80% FT shooters if you expect to go anywhere in the playoffs. I love Fox but the Kings clearly screwed the pooch & traded the wrong guy & then traded for the wrong guy to pair up with the guy they should've traded. And I mean that with all due respect because Haliburton is ascending & on his way to MVP status. Fox isn't MVP on his own team alot of nights. Very rare Haliburton isn't the best player on the court even when he's sharing it with Giannis and Lillard. But good vid because it's impressive as hell Fox's 3 has improved. Now if he can put it all together then we're talking but he's yet to do it. I believe he will

He is the primary ball handler, of course his 3 pt percentage will go up with an increased pace.

If fox and anthony edwards were born in canada or somewhere else they would be all over nba media. It's like the nba media only promotes so many american players, and 3 of em are legends with 15+ years.

Outside shooting is mathematically breaking the game of basketball. 33% difference between a 2 and a 3 is too much there needs to be a slightly small gap in order for the nba to stop abusing the 3pt shot. Over 100 players are shooting over 40% from 3 meaning (10shots x 3pts at 40%=12pts) In order to find out what your 2pt fg would need to be to match that productivity you would need (10x2pts x 60%fg= 12 pts There’s nobody in the nba minus Zion embeid, jocic, and Gianni’s that can come close to maintaining a 60% fg percentage for an entire season

You also have to keep in mind how the mid range shot factors into those 2s though. Players like Giannis shoot upwards of 80% at the rim, and the league average is close to 70% I believe. Shot selection has a lot to do with 3 point shooting reigning supreme.

Bringing up lonzo as a weak shooter is crazy because he’s been a shooter his whole life so I’m pretty sure he would’ve figured it out either way

Couldn't be a worst timing for this video. Fox went on a fluke shooting run and it's all over. Since 12/31 dude shot 17/51 (33%) on 3s and his free throw % still hangs around the low 70%.

From what I hear someone who works with the Sacramento Kings is he's got an injury that he's playing through and I think it's on the shooting arm. And ankle hasn't healed completely!

@@woodlandmac yup the dedication is amazing. What makes it more amazing is that his wife apparently is harder on Fox than Coach Brown is. So he got a good supporting cast to motivate and push him to be the best.
