About The Crow:
The Crow is an upcoming American supernatural superhero film directed by Rupert Sanders from a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, based on the 1989 limited comic book series of the same name by James O'Barr. It will be the fifth installment in The Crow film series, serving as a reboot. The film stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven / The Crow, a murdered musician who is resurrected to avenge the deaths of himself and his fiancée, played by FKA Twigs.
The film entered development in December 2008, with Stephen Norrington stating that he would write and direct a "reinvention" of The Crow. It entered a complicated production process with various directors, screenwriters, and cast members attached at various points. Filmmakers Norrington, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, F. Javier Gutiérrez, and Corin Hardy were initially signed to direct while Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, Jack Huston, and Jason Momoa were all cast as Eric Draven during various points in development. Skarsgård was announced as Draven in April 2022, along with Sanders as director. Filming began in July, occurring in Prague and Penzing near Munich.
The Crow is set to be released in the United States by Lionsgate on June 7, 2024.

If it wasn't Eric Draven this could work easily, looks good but Brandon Lee will always be (for me) Eric Draven. Bill Skarsgard is an incredible actor, he deserved his "own" crow.

This looked more like Alex Corvis (Crow Salvation) rather than Eric Draven lol. Alex from 3 had the short hair look and when I first saw Bill as Eric I'm like, THAT IS NOT ERIC. THAT'S FUCKING ALEX CORVIS. Salvation is so underrated.

The problem with the Crow is that most people only know it from the Brandon Lee film which is not a faithful adaptation either. However, without Brandon Lee the original would not have been as good. The more I see this trailer, the more I am on board. Plus this is for today and the original was for the 90s. I do wish they wouldn't have used Eric and people would be ok with this one.

completely agree with this… they are gonna lose people using Eric. They could have just made it a new person, which is what the crow is anyway… Check out the Crow Wild Justice comic from 1996 if you have not already, he looks like this guy. But im definitely on board with this remake, looks decent.

We need to stop comparing let it be it’s own thing this generations version of the story it’s doesn’t have to be a tribute to the original it’s not going to ruin the original for anyone I love the original and it’ll always be a great movie to me simply if you don’t like it then let it be that but give it a chance with fresh eyes not holding the weight of what the original gave us

I get where you're coming from, but that's a tough ask. It's hard to demand that people stop comparing it to the original movie that it's a reboot of. If they had just made this a standalone movie with different character names, I think the reception would have been a lot more positive. Personally, I find it promising that it's taking the graphic novel story in a slightly different direction to the original movie, and hope it does stand on its own, and that the haters give it a shot to succeed or fail!

Yes the look is different but seeing it in action is giving me a different perspective on it in a good way it has gun fights and violence just like the original and the sequels people are saying he’s getting shot too much that’s literally the point since we have tech to make it look good we can have more it’s really nothing different which is good for me at least. I’m gonna watch it.

You know, I felt similarly - the shots of him released a few weeks ago looked pretty bad to me (mostly just the haircut!) but actually seeing the trailer gave me a lot more hope! And I loved the amount he was getting shot - it really reminded me of the board room scene in the original movie!!!

both films are made cuz of the novel that came out before the films. all films are based on the novel. Brandon crow still exists, and also coming in 4k remastered version soon. excited for that. seems a new interesting take, also space cowboy who guides the souls in the beyond that was cut from the original film , is put in this one. glad to hear nerd safari like city of angels. i like all till the third film. the fourth one is a mess... original movie is not erased, is still exists and will exist, it wont erase what brandon did. im interesting on it, gonna watch it too.

Fair point! I think if this was a frame-for-frame remake of the Brandon Lee version, it would be a complete disrespectful disaster. But taking this in a different direction was pretty smart, and I hope will give us a new perspective on the graphic novel's great stories!

@@NerdSafari totally. i mean the og exists, if they went full make up, full everything of the og. tell me that would pissed off even more people. so thats why they went completely different in everything. also the og film exists , never going anywhere. 4k is coming soon. also take this, if they wanted to screw brandon lee version, then why they didnt touch his official facebook page and created a second official page for ths movie. same og film was made for teens modern audiences in the 90s, i had 4 years old so im one of them. this is doing the same thing, for the new teens of this days. we can complain all we want as og fans, but its just stupid as og film exists, so this one is just a different take. its like devil may cry and dmc devil may cry. two different adaptations.

I was thinking the same thing - I had the same problem with the TV show, it would have been much better if they had just used another name! Eric Draven was played by Brandon Lee and it's hard to see that story retold.

@@NerdSafari Being a person that saw the original in the theaters I'm gonna pass on this one. Watching this trailer did one good thing, it pointed me in the direction of a film called Crow. It was originally going to be a short fan film but was made into a full length movie in post production, looks decent.

One reason for that decision, at least from a business standpoint, is that Brandon was originally contracted for sequels. When he died, the producers decided to continue the series anyway, instead of letting it end with one film.

My issue with this movie is that it could have worked even without having to name the characters Eric and Shelly. Fans of the original movie probably would have found it easier to accept if they hadn't named them such. Besides, any person can be The Crow.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing since putting this video together - this movie at least looks better than half of the sequels and the TV show and probably would have been received a lot more warmly if they'd just used some different names and called it a sequel rather than a reboot!

@@jonmartin9732 no, they're guides, not personas. ", the Skull Cowboy is one of Eric Draven's guides in the Crow graphic novel and in the 1994 film adaptation. The Skull Cowboy is a mysterious spirit who appears in visions to Eric, guiding souls in Limbo. The Skull Cowboy first appears in a scene where Eric sees a horse caught in a fence, then again when Eric has a vision of Shelly being shot, and finally when Eric sees the horse's spirit. "

Of course nobody will ever fill the shoes left by the great Mr. Brandon Lee. But that is the point. An actor shouldn't be trying to fill in the shoes of an actor who previously played the role, he should make his own for the role and whether you like the film or not when it is released, I think everyone can agree that the brilliant Mr. Bill Skarsgard will have definitely made his own for it. Bill is a phenomenal actor and so transformative. Also this is a reboot and reboots don't have the greatest track record so the audience will have an instant negative bias in their minds when they go to see this, which is sad. Very sad. This film will not take away from anything that Mr. Brandon Lee did in his film. But I do think that I will enjoy this when I go to see it, I am sad to say I was not around when the original crow was released, I'm in my late twenties so I do think this version of The Crow will be aimed more at my generation than anyone else, but I don't think that means that only people my age can/will enjoy it. I respect your open mindedness and appreciate it. You are both great reactors and I hope you do both thoroughly enjoy this film if you choose to go and see it. Best wishes, Alfie

We were really hoping to see this in June when it was originally scheduled to be released, but I suppose we're now waiting until August after they pushed it back a little. @@NerdSafari My pleasure! Ah yes it was supposed to be released on 7th June I believe but then I think Lionsgate made an announcement it was pushing back release dates for a few of their upcoming films so now The Crow will not be in cinemas until the 23rd August. I am excited to see this :)

Coming back to this comment, I feel like that if they tried to remake the crew perfectly they would probably have failed very badly. So I think this was maybe the only way to actually do it in this day and age to actually get investers on board with the movie aswell..

I would like to see them do a whole new Crow TV series, Even though they already have one called the crow stairway to heaven, this was a good series at the time and it had came on Syfy channel from back in the day. I got up like 4:00 in the morning just to watch it and then I went back to sleep. I will not see this. This does not do nothing for me, however I like the song that's in here sung by Ozzy Osbourne.

It's funny, people really hate on Stairway to Heaven, but it actually had great reviews and great viewing figures! It was very close to getting a second season, and really only got cancelled because of budget cuts at NBCUniversal.

I am on the fence with this, obviously it has to do with seeing the original in my youth… the character Eric Draven will always be Brandon Lee and the dystopian setting from the original with Eric and Shelly’s love story and their relationship with Sarah (even though only shown in short flashbacks) was adoring, playful, and showed their joy for the future when compared to the bleak, rainy industrial and unruly city scape… .. with this new reboot the trailer it, as you said seems more just a revenge story, the scene in the trailer much like the Eric and T-Bird scene fell flat in its delivery, the original where T-Bird is being tied to seat by Eric and he is freaking out with the fact Eric has comeback for revenge just hits deeper (and the little wave goodbye Eric gives when sending the flaming car into the river adds just the right amount of sarcastic vengeance Eric is dealing out to these guys) … and if the new movie has no story arch with a character like Sarah it will remove Eric’s torment and sorrow he feels for him and Shelly leaving her… …. one scene in the Brandon Lee version still shows that Eric has his human element and is not just a full on ‘vengeful spirt’ when he tells Sarah in a somber voice “it can’t rain all the time”.. … from the trailer of the reboot it just seems this version of Eric only has his connection with Shelly and thus is completely vengeful spirt … well, this rant does make me sound like someone who is clearly unhinged and nostalgically protective with their view of the Brandon Lee adaptation of the Crow.. to which I admit I am..

Ha ha ha, thanks for sharing, and I think we're similarly unhinged in our views! There was definitely something about the gothic dialog in the first movie that seems missing from the reboot, or at least not highlighted in the trailer. The T-bird scene that you mentioned is one of my favorite - particularly his words as he's being duct-taped to his seat - "This is the really real world... there ain't no coming back!" And then the use of "... and saw how awful goodness is!" Lines like that really summed up the movie for me, and I hope they at least pay tribute to that kind of vibe in the reboot...

Right, we mentioned that in our video too. I personally quite liked City of Angels, but the other sequels and the TV show fell way short for me. Even though this one has been in development hell forever, I thought the trailer was actually surprisingly promising!

So I had to base it on the merits, So I had to use the basics on being a crow, I didn't really see a problem except when he gets told he has the power of God, I don't Think that needed to be added to the story at all.

Crow Salvation I loved just as much as the first film. Bill's Crow look reminds me ALOT of Crow Salvations' Crow. The short haired look with the jacket. Bill's Crow is a definite mix of Crow 1 and 3's Crows. Crow Salvation was UNIQUE and creative. It wasn't a copy of the exact plot from 1-2. Easily the best soundtrack of the franchise with Danzig, Rob Zombie, ect. Plus Fred Ward. It also added mystery to it and much darker and a dark sense of humor. I want to know the 'haters' of Crow 3, why do you not like Salvation? It's different. I'm gonna watch The Crow and The Crow Salvation to get ready for this remake. City of Angels was okay but felt too much like the first movie and the 4th sucked so bad.

I have a soft spot for Salvation as well, and sometimes I wonder if it's just because I love the soundtrack so much! It's the same as City of Angels; I loved the LatinX cultural aspect of it, as well as Iggy Pop who I thought crushed it as a henchman, paranoid over his unwanted crow tattoo! I guess you can find aspects to love in everything if you look hard enough! 😂

I agree guys, it doesnt look as awful as people are saying..it looks entertaining but i like the simplicity of the original and this looked more like a serious Deadpool/Joker/John Wick story and im not feeling the look of him..i get things have changed since the original and it has to l cater to the times of modern cinema..but Brandon Lee kind of had a crow look to him and this one doesnt at all..Im still going to watch but i agree its for a different audience and a different type of film..It will definitely get a lot of hate no matter what..I also agree that Supernatural presence is not what u assumed it would be..I will go and see but skeptical..

It could be decent if only it wasn't connected to the original story. Comic franchise has different revenge stories, characters and interpretations of the mythology and this film could be an another undirect sequel like "city of angels, salvation"... But to make a remake is absolutly stupid : Shelly is afro, Eric is a gangsta, i guess rap is replaced rock. It's not the soul of the original comics and film but photography looks pretty nice.

Shelly saw the villain's eyes turn non human and then do something to that girl so her eyes turned all white plus it looks like we get to see Eric's time in purgatory which none of that (his change) etc was shown in the first. Definitely has a bigger budget to show the kinda of effects it takes to portray the supernatural in a bigger way. I think it looks good at least entertaining for a couple of hours.

True! I guess I more meant that the original graphic novel has some HEAVY supernatural elements; even the end of Eric Draven's story is more like something set in the supernatural world than the real world. I didn't necessarily see that level of influence in this trailer. But hey, I agree with you - I'll watch it and hopefully have a good time for a couple of hours!

Ay it might be good so I'm watching it and I'll judge it after but maybe change the face paint and their names. That's all cuz he looks like the joker than the crow and I don't want them to keep using the same names from the '94. I'm not hating on the characters, it's just like the Director show use different names. Look I only watch the movie on Mon to see if it's good even tho I'm not gothic or emo person and I didn't read the comics as well. The only problem with this trailer or movie is the makeup and the character names that's all. Besides all the that I think this new movie is going to be good but I don't think it's going to be on the same level as the original. That's my opinion.

I've read James O'Barr's book. In it, Eric and Shelley's deaths are done very quickly. They aren't suffocated or drowned while the other is forced to watch. Also, this new movie is way too gory. The comic had a few moments like that, but it wasn't the norm. Eric's attitude was one of vengeance, but he didn't seem to relish in his victims' demise.

Their MIGHT be some supernatural aspect. The quick scene where Top Dollar is saying something in the blonde hair woman ear looks to be some satanic shit going on. Also the lore seems different. Eric has a limited amount of time to "save" Shelly? Save her from what? What happens to Shelly if Eric's time runs out? Over all I think a lot of naysayers are gonna react to this like the Childs Play reboot. "It would've been fine if they didn't call it Childs Play" Personally, Im more intrigued with what the lead vampire from 30 Days of Night actor does and the soundtrack/score.

I noticed that in the trailer and then was overwhelmed with everything else and forgot to mention it! 😂 And yeah, this reminds me of Childs Play, as well as when Ford released their electric EV and called it a "Mustang" - any other name would have been fine!!! 😩

It looks good🎉. The problem hers is that a lot of people love the old movie but never read the comic. This film seems more in mind with the comic. Then the Brandon Lee movie. I agree - certainly Bill doesn't look like the character from the graphic novel, and that mildly bugs me, but the storyline seems closer to the comic. And I do like that they're trying to tell a different story with a different feel. 3 months and we'll find out!

Once again Hollywood missed out on yet ANOTHER great opportunity. In 1996 James O' Barr co-wrote a Crow comic called "The Crow: Flesh and Blood." In it a woman named Iris Shaw dies when a government building she worked in was bombed by an anti-government militia group. She can't rest because she had just found out that she was pregnant right before her death and so is resurrected by the Crow to take revenge. Hollywood could have made a Crow movie with a girl boss female lead and probably gotten a lot of butts in seats to see it. But as usual, they're too lazy and stupid to see opportunities even when most of the work was already done for them.

Did anybody not notice that it literally starts with their love story shows a ton of it shows their death, shows his coming back, shows him being talked to, and guided, then shows him kill people then shows him doing the make up, then shows him fighting the final battle. And the trailer literally starts from the beginning of the movie and ends at the opera house we know because we just watched the trailer. We know how they die not everybody who watches this movie, considering they said they were going for a modern audience has ever seen the original, or read the comic, so not everybody does know the story since that’s what they say they’re going for

Its not just about the SoundCloud rapper look on Skarsgard, its the look and feel on the whole thing! the new Batman movie looks more like the Crow than this "Crow"! This looks like any other generic action movie but with a guy with tatoos and some face paint....its just stupid. The Crow is synonymous with goth, it has to have that style if not just call it something else...they didn't even get the music right, the trailer ends with some autotune shit ffs!!

Their trying to do a Nolan Batman remake, a John wick stylized movie that they think hopefully will be the new version of the crow that everyone loves. I hope that works out for them! But so far this is not what I want to see as the crow. When Batman begins came out I didn’t like the cast as Batman, and all though that depiction of Batman has kinda grown on me I still don’t really love bale as Batman. I’m getting the feeling this will be the same. I don’t like bill skatsgards look and vibe as the crow. ThT ruins it for me straight away. And god what’s with that music choice for the trailer, dam that was bad. It wasn’t badass, it wasn’t tragic or haunting, it was mainstream and very island boy post Malone. Definitely will wait until this is free

Shelly was a terrible choice just doesn’t feel right. But what it getting roasted is Eric’s look it just doesn’t work. If this was under a different title and not a remake it would be interesting but it just doesn’t fit. This feels like a GreatValue crow

This looks like a complete generic, cgi overloaded, Machinegun Kelly doing a John Wick cosplay, doing a Joker cosplay. This looks like you can name it whatever you want....it's exchangeable! And I hate the cinematography: here is nothing remarkable shown...in the the 94 movie you can pick ever, single frame, make it a poster and it will look gorgeous and iconic. And the setting is something I can't go with: the 94 Eric and Shelly were normal people, in the reboot they are former drug addicts who met in rehab...I can't identify myself with them, the reboot Shelly got killed because she stole something from maybe Topdollar, the 94 Shelly got killed only for complaining about the safety conditions in their appartement, which gives much more impact to the story. And finally you think the killing in the reboot looks gruesome? She "only" got suffocated with a plastic bag (for stealing something), the 94 Shelly got heavyly mistreated, punched down and raped....just for the reason of legit complainment !! THAT is gruesome. Same with Eric, the reboot one also gets "simply" suffocated, the 94 Eric got beaten down, stabbed with a knife, shot two times in the back and got thrown out of the window...a total overkill!!! And the artistic decision in 94 to show the relationship of them just in flashbacks when Eric remembers piece by piece, and so the audience does, is just phenomenal....showing the entire backstory in the reboot takes away the real magic of their relationship....but, maybe, Gen X needs a completely explained story to understand....

So my personal thoughts. Please understand this movie is very close to my heart for the last 20 years I have dressed as the crow on Halloween. So a few honest observations. The first movie was narrated by a young girl that was a beautiful juxtaposition to the absolute horrific world she was trying to survive in. The original villains were arsonist which scared everybody in a way. So something else that really bothers me is the DIRECT rip off of Serenity when they use the line it's not madness ok they said anger it's love. Another very subtle thing that doesn't sit well in my heart is that not a single person is making the pink jump suit correlation to squid game. I mean to me it seems so obvious so I feel in many ways like modern Hollywood does that they manipulate similarities in art instead of truly being original. So no disrespect these actors need there stupid ridiculous paychecks for doing something someone else told them to do, but to me it is a disgrace and an abomination.

I respect your opinion, but I'm not sure I agree. I'm a big fan of the Fast and Furious movies and was skeptical about whether they should continue after Paul Walker died. But they treated his character with such respect, it was actually pretty touching. I've heard the director of this Crow reboot say similar things about Brandon Lee, about how they want to make this movie different enough that it doesn't trample over his legacy, but with enough tributes to him to appease the fans. I have no idea whether they'll succeed at that, or if it will just be insulting and offensive, but I'm at least willing to give it a shot.
