It's so often implied both in the show and in real life that the stress of being King sent George VI to an early grave but the way he smoked like a freight train could have just as easily done that had he never been King. With Edward never having children he would have still been the heir presumptive and would have had a very heavy work load as such. The line of succession would not have changed a jot except that Elizabeth would have had an additional 20 years before she sat on the throne. And certainly Edward was never cut out to be a monarch.

In my case it only manifests in speech I don't mind just being there in public but when I have to talk..oh boy I don't stutter but I feel like a panic attack every single time, voice broken, heat palpitations until I'm breathless and I just cannot keep talking. So frustrating and out of control (and I've been working on it!). And I'm no queen, my speeches in public were to children or a group of peers in a public meeting. I'm quite sociable too. Even though it seems that the King had his reserved thoughts about his new son-in-law, he was still a loving and supportive father who wanted his daughters' happiness and a good and balanced life. And time proved his daughter made a good choice. No matter the issues they had as couple, but they kept together even in the most difficult moments, and even though they passed the honeymoon state. Quiet different from their own children and other relationships nowadays which can easily break even at the most simple breeze.

'The Crown' should reflect reality. Let the Queen & Prince Philip's lives of service remind everyone of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability the British monarchy is for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, which opposes illegal dictatorship and helps keep the peace. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy is an important one. Of course the Queen & Prince Philip had their failings as parents, and Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the service they give, and for the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in the world. There will always be violence in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy. The value of the British crown since the 1700s is, many billions of people have lived under it without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives.

The wonders of make-believe. In reality the Throne Room in Buckingham Palace where the wedding pictures were taken is about half a mile away from the balcony room! A minor pedantic detail to an otherwise impeccably set-designed show.

Her father was very reluctantly king to begin with and hated social engagements due to his profound stutter. He was probably a ball of neeves from the social part, knoeing he was ill, and also knowing his dauughter was "doomed" to a life of public service as well

@@princesskayla1400 Ok honey, think please! Queen Victoria was born in 1819 and became Queen in 1837. By the time of that wedding, she would've been *128 years old* ... Even for the house of Windsor that's a bit unrealistic! ^^ No, I think it might have been Cecilia Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother's mum and Elizabeth's maternal grandmother.
