As Netflix gets set to release Season 2 of “The Crown,” actors Claire Foy and Matt Smith, who play the respective roles of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, join TODAY to talk about it. Smith says he likes to imagine the real Queen Elizabeth watches the show, and Foy adds that she imagines Her Majesty laughing and saying, “That never happened.”

I just finished a Season 2. Everything about it is AMAZING! The writing, costumes, editing, music and especially the cast. Claire Foy and Matt Smith are AMAZING! Love this show! ❤️

i think netflix didn't really have a choice because claire foy no longer wanted to play the role. replacing cast members will also probably give netflix a chance to start off with a clean slate in terms of pay as it was rumored claire foy was underpaid relative to her counterpart matt smith. but yeah, the replacements have some big shoes to fill. claire foy is bae and there is no other queen.

It's not that Claire didn't want to continue the role. They knew when they got the role a few years ago that they were going to be replaced after two years. That is why Claire (IDK about Matt) has moved right into new acting roles right after finishing the second season of The Crown. I agree about the money part, though. Once a show starts becoming successful, the stars generally expect more money. Brand new actors won't be able to demand high pay if they weren't part of the success to begin with IMO.

It's so hard to convincingly portray a young actor old. Both the queen and the duke are in their 90s, I can't see Claire pulling off a 90-year old woman. Philip is nearly 100!

Because that would use an enormous amount of money and you would have them sitting in makeup for around 5 hours every morning and the prosthetics can only be used a certain amount of times

They should have had them do season 3. The characters didn't really age until the 1980's. They could have changed them out in season 4.

I never liked the Queen or the Royal Family, aside from Princess Diana and her sons, but I love the production of "The Crown" ... the historical content, the exquisite costumes, and the stories covering Winston Churchill and Princess Margaret. Looking forward to Season 3 starring Olivia Colman, who is excellent in "Broadchurch."

It's not a documentary. It's inspired by real events, and I heard an interview where they said they do a lot of research, but it's not %100 real. A lot of conversations are fiction as they can't know for sure what was said behind closed doors.

Why do Americans insist on referring to members of the royal family by their first names only? The only exception seems to be Duchess Catherine, whom they persist in referring to as Kate Middleton. It seems so intentionally disrespectful.

Matt Smith is by far, the WORST television actor in history. In Season 1 of The Crown, in EVERY scene, his head is bent down as though he is looking at his shoes. He just wrinkled up his forehead and pouted. I though the Director would tell him NOT to do this in Season 2, but it's even WORSE in the 2nd series. He is soooooooooooooo ugly also.
