The four pillars of urban contemporary jazz Stix Hooper, Wilton Felder, Wayne Henderson and Joe Sample. Rare find video to see all sharing the same stage. Thank you so much for sharing.

This is the year 1973. North America. I was 12 years young. I remember this time very well. This music is a Reminder of that time. Had a Detroit Free Press Paper Route. Playing the Acoustic and Electric Guitar. Getting ready to go into high School. Converted to Electric and the upright double Bass in my mid 20's. Far out Man. Good O" 70's. This was one of my favorite Jazz Bands. Learned a lot of dynamics and phrasing and soloing listening to Larry Carlton. And how the other musicians would spin off each other. Great music times in the 1970's. RIH Joe Sample, RIH Wilton Fielder, RIH Wayne Henderson.

You should check out the band Stuff aswel. My favorite band from around the same time. The best studio musicians collected in that band. Steve Gadd, Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree, Gordon Edwards and Chris Parker. Top of the top.

This is a gem! Big fan of them from the 70s. The 2nd Crusade album is full of songs that all mix soul, jazz, funk and a super feel-good groove. The way Wilton and Wayne could blend their sounds was magic. Their solos were from the heart. It was always about the music and never about trying to impress with technique.

Wilton played bass on much of the studio stuff and used Max Bennett (not sure who he is) did live stuff up until Pop’s joined. That’s according to an interview with Wilton I listened to the other day (KZfaq interview with Wilton Felder). But according a thread on TalkBass pop’s was in the band from 71-79. So… 🤷‍♂️

@@jeffreywestervelt2671 Max was a studio guy from the 60's who did lots of electric sessions during the 70's. He was the bassist for the LA Express (played with Joni Mitchell, etc.). This show from Seattle is why I'm pretty sure this was Luther. He is announced during the show. It could be that he just made one tour or something. Watching this video again... I'm positive it's him. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbd3hZxzzLbNe5s.html
