I think Cegorach had been looking for someone to serve as his avatar for some time and had tested many mortals in various ways to see if they were worthy. The reason Malys was chosen was because she was the first mortal to pass his test.

Ultimately, the wager was that the loser gives their heart to the winner. Malys won, so she gets the heart. It could very well be that simple.

Is it not possible that the laughing god did not in fact loose, but gave her the idea that she won so he could better control her or perhaps even have a basic avatar to use or even just watch.

Trickster Gods often seem capricious, but that is typically revealed to be a tactic of misdirection as they orchestrate events. It's probably safe to assume Cegorach intended for events to play out as they have.

The answer may lie in Ynnead's birth. Cegorach planned the birth of Ynnead. When the Thirdteenth Black Crusade happend, Vect and Malys supported the two champions of the Crucibael, Lelith Hesperax for Vect, and Yvraine for Malys. Considering Yvraine was "destined" to become Ynnead's Emissary by her life, Cegorach could have predicted the birth of Ynnead through the Book of Rana Dandra, and manipulated the events in favor of Ynnead's birth. The Harlequins of the Midnight Sorrow helped Eldrad in his Coherian ritual, and through Malys, Cegorach could have send Yvraine to her own death against Lelith, at the very moment Ynnead's came into conscience, so that he could choose her as Emissary. Another beings state that theory. The Visarch. Before, he was Yvraine's teacher amongst the Dire Avengers of Biel-Tan, but meet with her again on Commorragh after her ascension, Reborn as the Visarch. As an Exarch, Laarian was bound to his Aspect and God, and it's unlikely that he diverged without the assistance of similar being. Cegorach could have use the Visarch to make sure Yvraine escape Commorragh safely, by giving her a loyal Bodyguard. Malys could be a tool to assist the Ynnari. And in the right Time...he could make her Vect's successor, and she could Ally all of Commorragh to Ynnead.

I would love to see an avatar-like story arc as we've seen with Ynnead and Yvraine and co.

What if the reason he challenged malyce to a contest of wills, was that he was seeking a worthy avatar? A contest of wills would be an ideal method of seeking a suitable avatar as it is one of the few aspects o a person that cannot be augmented through, for lack of a better term, space magic. This when combined with the resurrection of her old lover as a demigod would form an ideal method of creating a army of demigods through conventional reproduction. Such children, even if inferior to the space marines, would have a huge logistical advantage over other super-soldier projects in use by the species of the galaxy: self-replication through reproduction.

Cegorach was trying to pull the ancint Terran trick known as rick rolling on Lady Malys but the dataslate was corrupted and it said Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart instead of Never Gonna Give You Up. Cegorach being the funny god of the unfunny people he took it to far and actually gave his heart.

I don't think that Cegorach wants Malys as his Avatar as such - he already has any number of Harlequins for that - but I believe that he has some reason to preserve her for the future. I don't know why. Perhaps to make sure that Vect has an opponent to keep him busy? Or, maybe making sure Vect gets a power boost is the plan. Seems like that could be done without Malys though. Either way, Cegorach gets to have a giggle about it :D

it would be really cool if Vect and Malys were intended to sire the next generation of eldar gods but they couldnt trust eachother enough to create them together. until a lore update in 20 years or so where they make the first one. it would be a good way to give dark eldar some more big monster models like Ynnead or Khaine. i dont see it leading to a wraithknight equivalent though sadly.

Will there ever be a 40K Lore For Newcomers for the Rak'Gol? I know they are a very small part of the universe but I still think they should be a new faction. Oh! How about the Ork Kult o' Speed? The only other Ork faction I know besides Freebooters.

Why exactly did the Laughing God give Lady Malys his heart? A permanent way to gain access to real space, so he gets the last laugh on 'ol poppa nurgle (who couldn't even do THAT, no matter how hard he tried).
