One of my favorite bands. Guitar player Billy Duffy was in the band the Nosebleeds for a short time with Morrissey ( The Smiths ) and Vini Reilly ( Durutti Colum ). He then joined Post-Punk/Goth Rock band Theatre of Hate. He met Ian Astbury, lead singer of the Southern Death Cult and they decided to start their own band and call it the Death Cult. They eventually removed “ Death “ from the name and kept it just The Cult. Their music style varied over the years starting with Post-Punk/Goth Rock to Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal.

I got off work less than an hour ago and this was the last song I heard on the radio at work. Strange to see this on my notifications as I get home. This wasnt a huge hit when it came out, and I dont even think it was the biggest hit for The Cult (underrated band). That said, part of the opening guitar riff was used for one of those MTV shows that was daily and focused on hard rock/heavy metal. There was a time when it was much more recognized for that fact than for a previous "chart topping uber-hit" status. Hard to believe that this is the second time Ive listened to this song in an hours time, randomly, this many decades later.

It reached number 2 in the US billboard charts and along with She Sells Sanctuary it's one of their most popular songs. It's recieved regular radio play on classic rock stations over the last 30 years and when it was released had a video that played regularly on MTV. I'm not sure where you're getting the notion that it wasn't a big hit for them.

@@craven1927 It was 2 in "Modern Rock"....but still was as high as 46 in the Billboard Hot 100. Both of those are higher than I would have guessed, but its a great song. In fact, while it has always been my favorite song by The Cult, most of my friends preferred She Sells Sanctuary and THAT is the song I would have guessed was their bigger hit because of that and because I hear that on the radio/in culture more often than Fire Woman.

Same for me, open squad bays at K-Bay, but it depended on who you were with whether you got a room or not. Most of BSSG and the airwing were in dorms regardless of rank, but grunts, the batteries, AmTracks, Recon, even e4s were in the barracks. Hell, Recon had a set of stocks they'd spend a night or two in rather than take NJP and an entry to their page 11. I looked at more recent photos off of google a while back and it looks like all the old barracks have been replaced with dorms now. I got out in 79 though.

Just a great rock song. I have a distinct memory of fishing out in a boat on a quiet lake with my grandpa. I was a very young teen, mayvbe even 12, and grandpa was pretty buttoned up and religious. This song was playing at a party on the lakeshore. It was the only sound we could hear out in the silence of the boat on the still lake. It felt like badness was creeping in, and I LOVED it. It was awkward and awesome. It was a moment whose overwhelming joy was signaling how my later teen years would go. Not at all how grandpa would approve. LOL, that was fun to listen to.

For what it's worth I work graveyards at a gas station and this is one of ritual Monday night songs to get me pumped in that good mood, also I discovered you guys 4 weeks ago working at thus gas station on a Monday when I hit random metal reaction videos. Love you two, I kinda wanna start metal/head 70s-80s rocker getting into hiphop rap reaction videos when I get things situated. Maybe you guys could help me with a few things to look at first.

You MUST see the official video which is a live performance! Half of the enjoyment of this song and this band is seeing lead singer Ian Astbury's dynamic performance! He's a Celtic Irishman and his feet sometimes do riverdance moves, he's all over the place dancing and singing his butt off! He's got long black hair down to his arse almost and is mesmerizing to watch! This is my favorite song and video ever that I always beg someone to react to for my birthday, lol! Last year No Limit Twon did it for me, God bless him! I was thrilled to see ya'll had this one tonight, but it was not the same without the video. Quit worrying about what the words mean! This is rock! Its more about the music and how it makes you feel! Please, no offense intended at all because I love you guys, but most of the time y'all guess some freaky meaning that's not at all what the song means anyway! Another one of theirs to react to would be Wildflower or Love Removal Machine or Edie, Ciao Baby! 😁💃🎵🎸

The inner workings of Lex's brain at first appears to be a circus randomness but upon closer inspection it is full of spot-on comparisons and metaphors for how she relates to the music she hears. Everytime she starts describing something I'm like "wtf?" and then once she finishes I'm like "...that was perfect."

I LOVE the Cult. I first heard this song when I was dating a new girl. She was a “special” kind of girl. This song will always make me think of her and the things I cannot share/type here. 😎🤣😂😇 Sonic Temple (the album) has some epic tracks. I’d recommend listening to the whole thing. I have the LP in a frame at my office at work.

They have so many great songs. Wild Hearted Son you would like. The Native American dance at the begining of the video is just awesome. The singer Ian's look and how he sings is part of the entertainment. He puts alot of himself into his songs. Think Captain Jack Sparrow meets hippy glam as most of his look. Would love to hear what Lex comes up with if she sees it.

They held their own on tour with Metallica on the Damaged Justice tour as well as Queensryche the first time I saw that tour. Two of my favorite concerts behind Judas Priest, Megadeth and Testament that same time. 88/89 was a great couple years for concerts. So many I can’t count. Seems like we were going to a concert every week for maybe a five year stretch.

The Cult has so many songs to check out. Here are a few Edie, Rain, Revolution, Wild Hearted Son, Wildflower and Sun King. Ian Asturbury, lead singer was inspired when living in Canada by First Nations culture which inspired some of the lyrics to their songs like Rain and Wild Hearted Son.

I think the first album Dreamtime also had that kind of inspiration. I have a signed copy, but Ian's 'signature' actually says 'Stay Free, Wolf Child'. 😁
