I’m from Edmonton and have been a huge Oilers fan. I was watching the RBC open earlier in the day and watched one of the commentators hold up an Austin Mathews jersey vs a McDavid jersey. The cheers for McD were impressive and she dropped the AM jersey and threw on the McD jersey to a huge ovation. The Oilers are Canada’s team and it’s loaded with Canadian hockey players from all over Canada. It’s easy for hockey fans to find a little skin in the game. Not to mention the fact that the Oilers are so exciting to watch. Canada is cheering for the oilers. It’s nice to see. Go Oilers go!!!

For years we heard David complain that they relied far too much on scoring pretty goals. He's said more than a few times that this team is going to have to learn to score ugly goals and win ugly games if they want to win the cup. Well David, they DID that tonight (and in this series) and now you are bewildered by it. You make me laugh. lol WE ARE GOING TO THE FINALS!!! GOOOOO OILERS!!!

As someone who grew up in Edmonton during the 80s I'm excited to feel the excitement again. I love the fact that they won game 6 but I was also very concerned about the way they played! I hope they round back into full form for the most important series in 18 years. Go Oilers! I also hope the live crowd comes up with something better than "let's go Oilers let's go" and the two-tone taunt of the opposing goalie's name. That is so lame... it would be nice to see Edmonton crowds come up with something energized and focused on getting their team going. I like how the Dallas crowd chanted "Dallas - Stars" and the Vancouver crowd chanted names of their players. I also went to a football game in Barcelona where there were non-stop chanting and singing of local songs for their team. It was nonstop. There was no DJ music between plays and jumbotrons telling people to get loud. Surely the Oilers merit their own original traditions?!

You gotta give Dallas credit, they are a very good team and played really well defensively. Such fantastic sticks, always had sticks in passing and shooting lanes. People talked about their lack of physicality but they didn't need to hit and take themselves out of the play. That being said I don't know about their fans. 14 PP to 12 for Dallas and they went 0-14 oilers went 5-12 and their fans acted like they were cheated and refs handed it to the oilers because their team couldn't been the oiler PK. I have no tolerance for all the Whining about oilers Special Teams. Especially from Fans that so aggressively called for sweeps by their teams and Oilers have no chance.

Awesome. Ken Holland has fulfilled the mission of this contract. The roster has proven they have the tools to get to the final two, and from there it's like winning four of seven coin flips. Can't ask much more of a GM. Holland’s moves since 2019 span the spectrum from near-disastrous to excellent. There’s always an element of gambling in every move. But on balance, here we are, and it can be traced back to signing effective stopgap players like Gaetan Haas to get the boys into the playoffs in KH's first year. If not with flying colors, he did get the job done. He's also ingrained some "cultural" aspects he wanted. He deserves to get his name engraved on the cup again.

Winning while playing badly can have negative future consequences. From the 2nd period onwards, they only sent in 1 guy to forecheck. Any 50/50 decision and they chose defense. They kept their shift lengths super short. I understand they didn't wanna get caught on a long shift but there were so many times they had a chance to rush and make a play, but instead went for a line change. Even when they had the puck in the offensive end, they'd take it to the corner and sit there with it. Fans always say keep attacking for a reason. Play like you want the next goal. Especially for the oilers, offense is the best defense. They got lucky that a lot of bounces around the net went their way. This strategy will not work with florida who is better than dallas in all 3 areas of the game, scoring defending and goaltending. I hope they learn that this is not the blueprint for sucess.

Fans obviously happy with the result, but sitting on a lead and playing passively in the offensive zone plagued them throughout the playoffs whenever they get a lead. I was hoping they realized this is not the way to play considering the number of times they've already lost despite having a lead in the game. In fact, game 5 I thought they figured it out, as it seemed like they maintained pressure on in the offensive zone throughout the game. They reverted back to this horrible style game 6 - they can thank Skinner for the win. Dumping the puck in, and letting the opposing team reset their attack with no pressure is just giving the other team chance after chance to find that opening/break in the defense. Much like the PK, it's much better to pressure the puck, and create unforced errors. Conversely, having puck possession in the offensive zone and getting shots on goal - keeps the other team on their toes. No shots - no threat. Dallas was unlucky today - we're playing with fire if we keep playing like this when we have a lead.

The collary to that is DO NOT GIVE THE EDMONTON OILERS POWER PLAYS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCORED ON. The collary to that is GET USED TO NOT SCORING ON ANY POWER PLAYS YOU GET. Look if all you look at is stats other than the number of goals at the end of the game the Oilers should have LOST this game. Skinner faced a ton of rubber. The Oilers had a ton of blocks but really, other than that, they were mostly wrecked analytically at the SURFACE level (the base stats, not the detailed ones when you drill in). Thankfully math LIES. Again, what counts is how many go IN, not how many you SHOOT. Dallas was much better in the faceoff dot. They hit more (like almost double). Doesn't mean squat. The Oilers won and proceed to the Cup Finals round against Florida. A big BAD THING was Kane's injury but hopefully nearly a week's rest will help a lot. Great job boys, it's not done yet, there are still four more wins needed. Hope Never Dies but neither does Faith. Take care all.
