Hard to believe now that Leicester, who finished 4th in the League that season, were hot favourites to win against United who finished 19th! But the way Denis Law turned the defender for his goal...poetry in motion!

As a huge fan and (as a confession) a massive FA Cup Final "statto", I couldn't agree more. The FA Cup Final was very special back then. As a pointer as to just how special it was: when Stanley Matthews finally got his medal in 1953, it was largely celebrated as the day he managed to attain every honour the game had to offer; given that he never won a League Championship, I think that says a lot

This was the first FA final that I have memories of watching it live on tv. Today, in 2020 it is really difficult to explain how much relevance the event had in the country (except Scotland) in 1963. Match of the Day, and the general introduction of recorded tv football was still more than a year away. We knew about Charlton, Banks, Law and Busby, but this was the only opportunity for non-attending match fans to see them. All in glorious black and white. This film was reserved for us open-mouthed viewers in Jacey cinemas the next Saturday morning screening.

if you take out the romantic factor from the equation, football in the 60s is pure rubbish. They were pioneers, they are an essential part in the evolution of the game, and they should be acknowledge for that but the game itself is miles away from what is played nowadays. We have to be very careful when comparing someone like messi with players from 60 years ago. Thought the level of genius in Pele and Messi might be close, the difference in the overall level of the era in which each one of them played is colossal
