Thanks for this! Their lyrics seem to be a central ingredient. I can't post the link because YT filters those out, but here are the lyrics as posted on Genius: _________________________________________________ Alone This is the end of every song that we sing The fire burned out to ash and the stars grown dim with tears Cold and afraid, the ghosts of all that we’ve been We toast, with bitter dregs, to our emptiness And the birds falling out of our skies And the words falling out of our minds And here is to love, so much love Falling out of our lives Hopes and dreams are gone The end of every song [Chorus] And it all stops We were always sure that we would never change And it all stops Wе were always sure that wе would stay the same But it all stops And we close our eyes to sleep To dream a boy and girl Who dream the world is nothing but a dream Where did it go? Where did it go? Broken voiced lament to call us home This is this end of every song we sing Where did it go? Where did it go? Where did it go? Where did it go? Broken voiced lament to call us home This is the end of every song we sing Alone ___________________________________________________ And Nothing Is Forever Promise you'll be with me in the end Say we’ll be together with no regret For however far away You will remember me tonight Promise you'll be with me in the end Say we'll be together and you won’t forget For however far away You will remember me in time And slide down close beside me In the silence of a heartbeat You'll wrap your arms around me In a murmured lullaby Is the memory of the first time In the stillness of a teardrop I'll hold you for the last time In the dying of the life And I know, I know For my world has grown old And nothing is forever And I know, I know My world has grown old But it really doesn't matter If you say we'll be together If you promise you'll be with me in the end Promise you'll be with me in the end I know, I know My world has grown old And nothing is forever And nothing is forever And I know, I know My world has grown old But it really doesn't matter If you say we’ll be together If you promise you’ll be with me in the end Promise you'll be with me in the end Slide down close beside me In the silence of a heartbeat _____________________________________________________________ I Can Never Say Goodbye Thunder rolling in to drown November moon in cold black rain The lightning who the sky apart I'm whispering his name He has to wake up Love slipping away Hear the bells beyone the sea It's almost too late Shadows growing closer now There is nowhere left to hide I can't wake this dream to sleep However hard I try Down on my knees Aching inside Something wicked this way comes From out the cool November night Something wicked this way comes To steal away my brother's life Somеthing wicked this way comes I could nevеr say goodbye Something wicked this way comes From out the cruel and treacherous night Something wicked this way comes To steal away my brother's life Something wicked this way comes __________________________________________________________________ Endsong And I'm outside in the dark Staring at the blood red moon Remembering the hopes and dreams I had All I had to do And wondering what became of that boy And the world he called his own And I'm outside in the dark Wondering how I got so old It’s all gone, it’s all gone Nothing left of all I loved It all feels wrong It’s all gone, it’s all gone, it’s all gone No hopes, no dreams, no world No, I don’t belong AI don’t belong here anymore It’s all gone, it’s all gone I will lose myself in time It won’t be long It’s all gone, it’s all gone, it’s all gone Left alone with nothing at the end of every song Left alone with nothing at the end of every song Left alone with nothing Nothing Nothing Nothing _____________________________________________________________________________ A Fragile Thing Every time you kiss me, I could cry she said Don’t tell me how you miss me I could die tonight of a broken heart This loneliness will change, and we feel too far apart We know that we’re too far apart Every time that we’re apart It's too late now for me to just forget I never thought I’d lead you to regret all I ever was All this time alone has left me cold inside and lost Yeah, every time you kiss me i could cry Don't tell me how you miss me I could die tomorrow of a broken heart This loneliness will change, and we feel too far apart Nothing you can say to change it back she said Nothing you can do to but sing This song is a fragile thing Nothing you can do to turn it back she said Nothing you can do to turn it back she said Nothing you can do but sing This song is a fragile thing This song is my everything But nothing you can do to change the end There’s nothing you can do… Every time you leave me is a lie she said You make believe you need me, but you try too hard And I feel so wrong You promised me forever, and say we all belong But it’s too late now for me to just forget I never thought I’d lead you to regret all I ever was But all this time alone has left me cold inside and lost Yeah, every time you need me is a lie You make believe you need me, but you try too hard I feel so wrong You promised me forever, and say it won’t be long There’s nothing I can do to change it back she said Nothing you can do to but sing, this song is a fragile thing Nothing you can do now but pretend again Nothing you can do to change it back she said Nothing you can do to but sing This song is a fragile thing This song is my everything Nothing you can do to change the end There’s nothing you can do to change the end

For me, I’m addition this, is the tone and timber of the guitar, bass, synths and drums. The background wash of synths and guitars are what draw me in. Then to hear Robert’s guitar tone, melody and crispness over it all; penetrates my skin and skull. My own mind cannot imagine this sound, beyond grateful for this band and Roberts muse. To be cliche, this is the kind of music that “ speaks to me”. It seems I’m in very good company across this big wide world. Much love to all of you❤️🙏⌛️

Just saw them on their opening night in New Orleans. When Robert sang the first line of the opening song, the crowd was full of teared up eyes. Collectively, we all got the message: "This is end of the songs we sing." I am privileged to have grown up listening to them, and can now relate to the lyrics regarding how fast life goes by....."where did it go...where did it go..." Thank you Robert Smith.

Same for me, not sure when I started listening to them exactly, but probably around 14 as well. It was in the '80s, and I'm also 51 now, and I just saw them for the first time in June at MSG in NYC - saw them twice in three nights there. They were AMAZINGLY good! I expected a lot and they far exceeded even that! Love these new songs as much as all of the MANY great old ones! Can't believe they played 29 and 31 songs, on stage about three hours at each of those show I saw. But that quantity of songs, especially at their age, was exceeded only by the quality. Three hours seemed like one hour each time.

I first picked up the cure in 1981 at 11 . Faith . Then 17 seconds in 82’ , not yet aware of pornography skipping ahead to the top. Went back to boys don’t cry . After hearing whisper’s, I wasn’t immediately fond of the synth pop it offered. I skipped ahead to head on the door. By 1985 at 15, I was forever hooked hopelessly obsessed with the cure for the duration . Kiss me was brilliant. At 17. Little did i know that the absolute best years were still to come. Disintegration my first live cure show, I returned for wish in Atlanta ,Georgia. By then married, shared a wonderful time together and fell deeper in love with my wife and of course the cure, by then my affair with the material had grown even stronger. Wild mood swings was somehow overshadowed by the large variety of music in 1996. I didn’t pay near enough attention to that album. Going back , was like visiting an old dear friend. The anomalies, B-sides. Three imaginary boys, But Blood flowers was an amazing return to form in a lot of ways. The long waits in between were worth it. I always remembered the show closing and Robert saying see you in seven years. Bittersweet memories of a band I love and cherish. The cure were with me through all the seasons of my life. A song and a sentiment for every feeling and emotion. I was once asked to choose one band to take away to a secluded island, their entire catalog was my choice immediately. Id never get tired of listening to the cure. Where other bands have come and gone , faded away. The cure are timeless. And for me there is no end song. No band could ever take the place or rise to the occasion nor heights or lows of The cure. Waiting for the North American tour, I am very excited to see them once again. Cheers ! Robert. You have touched so many and are loved more than you may ever realize or know. Never stop. Encore . Wish for many more years of the cure. The absolute best band in my opinion. Nothing has meant more in the world of music to me or my wife. Our children. One negative thing that i feel like must say because of jealousy , unwarranted attacks. Morrissey can piss off, he is washed up , out of touch and nothing special about him. Nasty and arrogant for absolutely no reason that I can see but M , knowing that Robert is King of Britain, when it comes to consistently making stellar beautiful music. Loved by everyone. See you in America 2023.

Exactly. I feel from this handful of tunes that this will be part 3 of what seems a trilogy: Disintegration, Bloodflowers, and Songs of a Lost World. No pop singles tossed in to disrupt the journey. Those songs have a place, of course, but the best Cure are concept album experiences weaved through building emotional tapestries that enrich and deepen as they go, like the 2 I named above.

I saw them on the last night of their tour at Wembley and they were fantastic. 32 songs and 3hrs of bliss! The new songs are so so good. I can't wait for this new album - it seems reminiscent of my favourite album of theirs - Disintegration.

The Cure is the best live band. Because he absolutely respects all the writing-arrangements of the initial songs; that we adore! The timbre of Robert's voice is unique (performance and emotion). The songs are really out of the ordinary (from other bands) each time unique and timeless!!! Seen in Paris 28 Nov. 2022 and in 2016.

This reminds me of the time Bloodflowers came out. My Dad was dying, I couldn’t get to him in time. He went on life support before I could see him. I had Out of This World played at his funeral. I still can’t listen to it without crying. Hopefully I can listen to this better.

These new songs are quintessential Cure. On hearing each one for the first time it was like hearing them as a well known and cherished classic. Roberts writting really hits the mark when he goes into the deep torment and tragedy that life invariably kicks up and forces one to face up to. As much as I try to give time to the post Disintegration albums, for me they don’t quite get me to the deeply emotional highs and lows of the earlier albums. It’s looking like this soon to come new album is going to be a classic.

Robert has been in love with Mary Poole (Smith) since grade school and still somehow understood these complex emotions of love and loss... now he has experienced the worst loss with his mum, dad, and brother. Of course these emotions were going to be turned into something splendid.

I just pray that these amazing songs are recorded more with the tones/sounds we hear here and on albums like Disintegration/Kiss Me and less like their most recent releases. All good albums but the self titled and Dream albums lost a lot of their dreamy dynamics because of the production. Hope they stay ethereal like we hear here.

There is plenty left, just wait for their new album 👍. It’s possible to be utterly lost in despair & then to discover some small hope or glimmer of insight thru a song lyric or work of art. Loss & anguish are both side effects of being human. Robert reminds us that we are not alone in any of this, by masterfully transforming grief into gifts of musical, lyrical poetry. I feel lucky every day, despite the darkness, to be living during a time when The Cure are writing & releasing music. These artists & others are really giving so much to help guide us, wherever we are, back towards the light. So hang in there, let the music carry you thru 🎵

I can relate. I just turned 51 recently myself, and when I look around...I mean literally turn in my chair an look at where I'm living now, and the circumstances of my current life, there's a measure of dismay. I had so much, and I threw almost all of it away because even though I'm sure it looked like success from anyone else's perspective, it wasn't making me happy. I sacrificed just about everything for something that looks ridiculous to anyone else my age, but includes a start on everything I thought my life would be about back when I was in college, and we all sat around in the lounge on our breaks listening to Disintegration on endless repeat. I don't know that I have any advice. Just...get through it one day at a time, and count yourself blessed by the little things worth enjoying. Music being one of those things, I suppose...
