Correct! PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECT - Let all players wear mask, then everything will be back to normal
@Salomon_Andrade2 жыл бұрын
The same thing was discovered way back when by the NHL’s goalies. The masks offered a layer of protection that gave their goalies the ability to play at a level without a fear of being injured. The first goalie to wear one was clowned on, but the moment the other teams saw how he no longer feared the potential facial injuries and outperformed everyone, EVERY goalie from there on wore a mask. There isn’t some curse or majik ju-ju from these NBA masks. It’s simply giving the players more courage to take more risks because of their new layer of physical protection.

Interesting effect really. Studies have shown that drivers who recieved an extra training tend to cause more accidents because they think they are more capable now and drive more reckless. I think there's a similar effect going on here. The mask protects them and there is less chance of further injury. Plus the boosted confidence. On the enemy's side you also have 3 things to consider. 1: The mask is a sign of injury. So going at it full force would be poor sportsmanship So the first couple of games the enemy players probably held back 2: Pressure. Masked players are known to perform great deeds. Going up against one is sure to cause a whole lot of pressure because everyone expects you to lose. 3: Supersticion. The player stepping on and trying to break the mask is a sign of somewhat believing in said curse turning this into a selffulfilling prophicy. If the player believes he can not win as long as his oponent is wearing a mask he dooms himself to failure.

Few possibilities: - They played harder because they felt safer. - The other players were easier on them because they didn't want to hurt them. - The masks are subconsciously intimidating causing their opponents to play more passively. - Those wearing the mask makes them play harder because they want to live up to the legend. I think other players were more likely to look at the mask, instead of a player. Like its so unique, that you instictivly look at it. If your opponents are a bit desoriented, you feel "safer" and everything is easier for you, becouse your opponents are a bit worse. Imagine walking on sidewalk and passing somebody with blue hair. it seems like a combination of self confidence and the effect the mask's have on an opponent, may it be an internal self caution due to knowing they are wearing due to injury, or be it the concept of the curse. as that one game where the team went in ready to play hard against the mask causes the mask player to be less self confident as they focused him as well as the team being more focused on him, once someone showed they feared the mask by trying to break it, the masks confidence came back and the fear of the curse over took the enemy team again. it really just seems like mental play, like a mind game.

It's probably due to a sense of safety the mask provides, like a placebo that gives the player a little more confidence. This can be seen in other sports such as head gear in rugby.

Also pinhole effect takes place because it makes the eyes more focus thus giving the player better vision. Also psychology can also be another factor

I think it just goes to show how much physicals contact there is in the game, that having something protecting your nose makes you more confident

Hamilton is a simple case of gaining confidence and fully committing to plays without the fear of getting hurt. It's amazing what something so simple can do to make people believe in themselves more to achieve thier full potential 😁

It's what safety equipment does. It happened with Football and Boxing too. Football didn't originally require helmets, but once the players were required to wear them, there was an upward trend in head injuries because players were feeling more secure taking more risks with their bodies and played more aggressively due to the extra safety equipment. Likewise, with boxing, the thicker more padded gloves actually tend to lead to worse injuries because the fighters cant judge their punching strength as much and subconsciously exert more force due to the padding. I imagine with these masks, the issue is two-fold. First, the player wearing the mask feels more protected so they're subconsciously going to push themselves a bit more. Slipping in to an opening where they might hesitate slightly due to the chance of catching an elbow to the face or getting knocked down. While the opposing players might be a bit more hesitant to be aggressive toward that player, either due to sympathy due to the obvious injury, like hesitating to push past someone wearing a cast on their arm. And since basketball is generally a no-contact sport where you dont take the kinds of injuries like in football or boxing, these little hesitancies and being more likely to take risks, even if its very minor change, could make a huge difference at this level of play.

Spartans wore masks and helmets designed to tunnel their vision and shallow their view. This eliminated distractions and some of the fear during the battle. Full concentration on what's in front of them, only focusing on the threat ahead while their stance and shield protected the man on their left, or this is just like Blinkers on a horse.

Everyone in this section said that it was because of the sense of protection it gave them but the first thing I thought of was horse blinders. Lowers their peripheral vision so they don't see the crowd when focused on the net and can only see what's in front of them.

Anyone who has done manual labor such as throwing and stacking firewood with and without gloves can attest that protective equipment that is comfortable can make you more effective.

One of the biggest issues is getting hit in the face or the nose while running for a layup or getting blocked while in a jumpshot.

Imagine how a football player would play if you took away their helmet… Or how a driver would drive if you had a loaded gun pointed at their head with a hair trigger… If you perceive your situation to be more safe, you take more risks, if more risky, you keep it safe.

It might be for 3 things, player going into zone when he wears the mask because the can't see down much, second defenders get distracted with the mask like split of second and that's enough for NBA player, or they are going easy on him unconsciously, or maybe the 3 happens at once

I think because of the first nba player to wear it and be “cursed” it gave the rest confidence to try new things as they think the mask will also change the way they play
