To be fair, to be "Certified Compatible" doesn't mean it's been seen by Valve in any capacity. They just have to be made within certain criteria, it was added a few years ago to streamline the curation process on Valve's end.

The Star just means it’s compatible with TF2. It doesn’t mean it’s approved by Valve.

Honestly, I love that cosmetic that turns the Heavy into a sandwich. It's delightfully cursed but I can totally imagine that being a legit cosmetic. Also the menorah at the end. That was delightful as well.

The shape of the blade on that spy knife is meant to be his legs with the feet pointing straight down. Look at it. It's a tiny Spy for Spy's pocket. One that actually stabs people.

Being marked incompatible doesn't always mean that it won't fit in the art style, it's mostly based on stuff like hit-boxes

The compatibility tags are not in reference to whether Valve themselves have approved an item. They are instead indicators that the workshop submitter did or did not go through the checks required to make a custom model work in the game.

I just love how while talking about a spy cosmetic at 2:58 the clip shows a bunch of spies. It’s not even just that though it’s the fact of how much the first one messed up the other (pyro disguised spy) by panicking toofty into looking back

doesnt the "Compatibile/Incompatibile" marking mean if the item can or cannot be technically put in the game? like of course the mech-engi cant be because its photoshopped picture, not 3-d model. maybe the other creators just incorrectly uploaded the files, and thats why not-so-bad items were deemed incompatibile

The golden 'compatible' star doesn't mean the item is in-line with the artstyle or anything like that. There's no manual review process involved as it's given to all items uploaded to workshop through official sdk tools

Oh man I had a similar idea for a video series called "worst of the workshop" where I would have gone to the last pages of different tf2 workshops and do an art gallery style analysis of the lowest rated items. Kinds dropped it because it was fairly overwhelming.

I'm pretty sure the Gold star on the workshop is awarded through a purely technical process. Valve isn't looking through the workshop and saying whether it's good, the submission process just reviews the item's encoding and data and gives it a gold star if it's convenient for Valve to add.

1:51 um, I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the "certified compatible" means that the item is confirmed to function in the game, i.e. they tested it in the itemtest map. It has nothing to do with the art style.

it's probably automatic. A simple check that nothing is corrupt or missing. like a model without a texture, or an animation trying to summon a particle effect that doesen't exist.
