Thanks Robin. Superb explanation, at last (6 months later...) I understand what this tool is doing instead of randomly twiddling until I (just sometimes...) I get what I want.

Glad it was helpful. Curves is an amazing tool once you understand how it works.

Great explanation - Thank you!! This has been troubling me for a while and learning-by-doing wasn't exactly doing it for me! Haha... Thanks again!

Thank you Robin. I’m getting my head around Affinity Photo and this is very helpful to my understanding of the curves tool. I find your tutorials very thorough and easy to understand. Thank you for taking the time to produce them.

Many thanks Robin - I really do find this approach useful. Rather like our camera systems, I think most of us tend to get rather habituated to the few editing apps we regularly use (eg I mostly use ON1 and Affinity Photo) but explaining the underlying principles rather than just demonstrating editing techniques in different apps, leads (certainly for me as a relatively new photographer), to a firmer understanding rather than being slightly baffled by the less familiar interface or layout of editing apps we don't use.

Thank you. I do believe that if you take the time to learn a few core tools you can achieve a lot. And when you can apply those across different applications it’s very valuable.

Robin, this is really great tutorial but I have to agree with Tony Greenwood and maybe you had to explain all tools in Curves Adjustment Panel in Photoshop and their practical usage on some examples. Keep going with this great tutorials!
@RobinWhalley4 жыл бұрын
I started with Photoshop for two reasons: 1. It’s still the most popular of the image editing tools. 2. It has the most complex layout and tools. If you can understand the Photoshop controls its easy to translate them to other packages.

@@RobinWhalley You dont understand me. I dont need that beacause I am advanced user who like to catch maybe some new good tips or tricks but what about begginers? I tried to give you some practical suggestion and its up to you to accept it or not.

I have seen in some tutorials they put two curve adjustment layers. And its usually one for lighter tones and one for darker tones, and between the two layers there are other adjustment layers. Why do they do that?
@RobinWhalley Жыл бұрын
It provides greater control. You could use different blending modes and opacity settings for each layer then. You could also use different masks or selection techniques with each layer to better target the effect of the Curve.

Another Photoshop supremacist, we vote with our feet Affinity is better value and it is not simplistic.
